To think it’s already getting too hot…

I am already starting to get hot! I think after a long cold winter of blankets on and no heating, we are all used to much lower temperatures. I know we’ve not even hit the 20’s yet but honest to god, I’m sat at home with a fan on full right on me. No idea how I am going to survive when it gets any hotter. I hate the summer and am just thankful that our ‘warm’ period seems to be reduced this year as sometimes by now we’ve had blaring heat!

First warm day here too, even managed to catch a tan! I'm not complaining about the warmer weather at night, rather that than freeze to death lol

NotMeSecretFormular · 14/05/2023 01:57

Yep. Been looking forward to being able to wear nice clothes for months and suddenly being upstairs in the house during the day is unbearable. I always run hot though, pretty sure my internal thermometer is broken. I go from freezing with flaring Raynauds to pouring with sweat with bright red extremities. Cant bloody win.

This is me also. I have a range of only a few degrees where my body is actually happy. I've always been like it though.

I'm lucky that I'm the opposite. You get people on here who assume that people are either hot or cold people. I'm just not good with artificial heating or air conditioning, if it's 16 to 30 then I'm more comfortable without.

Mumsnet always seems to have people on here who cannot fathom that everybody is different, in relation to all manner of things. Including how well we deal with heat / cold! 🤷‍♀️ (And seemingly that different parts of the country have different weather / temperatures on the same day. Who knew?!)

WestwardHo1 · 14/05/2023 08:24

FFS there's always one

Fivecluckyhens · 14/05/2023 08:37

I’ve been wearing my winter coat and a jumper up until yesterday.

Violinist64 · 14/05/2023 08:37

East Anglia and it’s still grey and miserable and cold despite the forecast telling us that it was going to be warmer today. Except for about two days and the lighter evenings, we could have been forgiven for thinking that May had been swapped with November so far this year

Teateaandmoretea · 14/05/2023 08:43

😂😂 yabu.

Ginmonkeyagain · 14/05/2023 08:49

Regardless of temperature differences across the country, 20 degrees celsius is not "too hot". It is jeans, t shirt and take cardie and light jacket for later weather.

LooseFit · 14/05/2023 08:53

I was wearing a hoodie and puffy gilet thing in London yesterday.y. It was cold and grey.

Feels like it’s been winter for a long time. I can’t wait for some sunshine and heat, if it ever arrives!

Not for me it's not. Weird how we're all different! 🤷‍♀️

Ginmonkeyagain · 14/05/2023 09:02

But it is for most, I was out for a walk last Sunday when it was nearly 20 degrees here in London and people were happily walking in jeans and light tops/jackets not expiring with the heat.

20 degrees is a very common temperature for Spring and early/late summer (even early autumn) days in the UK. Do you find large parts of the year "unbearably hot".

Qilin · 14/05/2023 09:04

It was about 16/17c here yesterday. It was nice in full sun, but still needed a cardi or hoodie. Once in the shade it was pretty cool. Day before was cold! And inside it was still fairly cold once the sun went down.

I don't consider 16/17c too hot!
22/23c is warm and pleasant, if it's not windy.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 14/05/2023 09:06

@Violinist64 I agree. I am in East Anglia and we are supposed to have a sunny weekend. On Saturday the sun appeared around 3 pm and today I have just got up and it is cold indoors- around 16c - my hands are freezing!! Still grey outdoors.

I'm fine if I'm still. I've always got really hot really quickly when moving around though!

I can be boiling when moving at one temp, but if I was sitting still in the same temp, I'd be chilly. It's very difficult to deal with clothing options! 🤣

(I'm not overweight. I've always been like this, even at my very skinniest - which was very thin - as a teen. I have poor circulation though, so not sure if that's linked.)

Pickingmyselfup · 27/05/2023 15:20

Quite happy here sat in the sun, I'm like a lizard and need heat to function. I was a bit warm on my park run this morning so next time will put shorts on.

In the winter all I do is moan that it's cold and huddle up in layers being miserable. I feel like we get more cold days than hot so I bask when the sun comes out just incase I never see it again.

I think we may be twins

Again, this is just you. 20 degrees is light summer dress and sandals, and I'm still too hot. That's me. We're all different. Some people don't seem to realise this.🙄

Gnomeo8 · 27/05/2023 20:25

Dorset here, 21°c today and we've been in the garden having a BBQ with the kids in the pool all afternoon. Glorious, but I love hot weather.

Jourdain11 · 27/05/2023 20:31

20c isn't 'hot'. It's reasonably warm temperatures. That is just a fact!

DrHousecuredme · 27/05/2023 20:34

This is the third thread I've read moaning and catastophising about a pleasantly sunny May.
Honestly, I'm so confused...why??

Well I’m happy that I have washed two loads and dried them on the line , but I am at the allotment now and I’m going to head home because I think I’m too hot / maybe starting to burn. So that’s a shame as I wanted to read my book in the sun in a chair - as you can tell I’m not one for too much hard work on the allotment 😊

Burning has nothing to do with the heat.

justasking111 · 27/05/2023 22:15

I miss children and the excuse for a paddling pool and water fights to cool off 😄
