I feel sick watching king charles

Mooshamoo · 06/05/2023 10:48

I don't want him as king. I feel sick watching a bit of the coronation this morning. I just caught a bit of it and I felt ill.

We are not subjects. It's 2023.
I don't want to be like an animal with an owner
I don't like the man. He has had so many scandals and bad friends. Why should he be allowed to rule over us.
This stuff shouldn't be going on in 2023.

Anyone think the same?

The fact that he doesn't pay tax on the profits from his Duchy set up narks me , 23 million it made last tax year and he argues it's not "profit" !

It’s not a corporation so it doesn’t pay corporation tax. He pays income tax instead. You’re welcome! No problem.

No I don't think the same, you sound like a 5 year old. 'I feel like an animal with an owner' - an animal can be sold, has no autonomy or control over what happens to it and is almost completely dependent on their owner. How the fuck are you an animal with Charles as your owner?

Did you say the same about Boris or Truss or any of the other idiots we've had actually leading us that actually could do and did a lot more damage than Charles ever could?

The monarchy bring in a lot of money 1.7 billion a year according to this,

Grow up.

He has absolutely no power over you in any real terms! It’s an absolutely awesome spectacle rich in history tradition and part of the fabric of the country. It’s made me feel emotional and I’m surprised how proud I feel of being British for a short while I’m watching. I’m appreciating it for what it is.

Same, it's fabulous.

elm26 · 06/05/2023 11:47

Completely agree @EightChalk

Deadpalm · 06/05/2023 11:48

Don't you live in Ireland? He really has very little effect on your life

PhilNW · 06/05/2023 11:48

Ahh the Guardian, "vetted" means they offer views only, does not mean they were changed, its the government (630 MPs ) who finally decide.

GreenMarigold · 06/05/2023 11:48

Personally I don’t find it offensive, as you do. However there are other things I do find repellent and would do all I could to avoid. We’ve all got our own tastes.

I think people who put themselves forward for positions of power are normally the kind of people you don’t actually want in power, which is why we end up with the politicians that we do.

I’d be equally happy for the king/queen to be randomly selected amongst the population. But I quite like tradition so I don’t mind the way we do it and the ceremony is all part of that.

LiveAHappyLifeBePositive · 06/05/2023 11:48

If you don’t want to watch it there are plenty of other channels. The only way is Essex is on.
Kings don’t rule us, didn’t you know..
What a bizarre understanding of the way this country works.

No

It's a corporation when it suits and private when it suits him

It's corruption and not transparent

I wouldn't say this. Didn't go down well last time when people had genuine concerns 😳

You have serious issues if you think this means you are "owned"

Male101 · 06/05/2023 11:52

It appears @Mooshamoo left. Didnt get the right attention I suppose

Kaz40s · 06/05/2023 11:53

Yes 💯 but we have no control over it so turn off your telly & do something that makes you happy. My tv will not be switched on today for that reason 😕

Florenz · 06/05/2023 11:53

The same people who moan about the Monarchy would be moaning about whoever the head of state was. They moan about the PM as well. Moaning is their life.

Fairislefandango · 06/05/2023 10:53

A bit dramatic. I don't think we should have a monarch at all, but Charles doesn't make me feel sick Confused. And he doesn't have any direct effect on my life. Why would his coronation make me feel like an animal with an owner?! Btw which particular 'scandals and bad friends' are you referring to?

You're wrong- it does effect your life due to the money the ceremony and the whole family costs. Child in an underfunded school? Ever had to wait for a dr's appt? Driven over a pot hole? Maybe if we didn't have a family with about £350 bn worth of public assets as its own, we could fund other stuff properly.

It’s not corruption. It’s the law. The King doesn’t have to pay tax. He does voluntarily. Just the way it is. Like it or not.

I agree, those freaking out are like hysterical 5 year olds.

Or maybe if the government did waste billions on failed PPE and test and trace we would have that money

FairyUpLiquid · 06/05/2023 11:58

YABU. The monarchy has no power to control our laws, your anger is misplaced. Look to the government if you don’t like being a subject or the way the country is run because unless you’ve misinterpreted otherwise I fail to see how it directly affects anyone’s life. He has the legal right to be King through the act of succession just as it has been for thousands of years. Just because people don’t like him and Camilla is irrelevant. He is King and she is legally entitled through precedent to be called Queen consort or Queen due to being married to the King. Just as Queen Mary was to George VI. I’m not a royalist but that’s just how it is and no amount of protest is going to change that, it’s just wasted energy.

usedtobeasizeten · 06/05/2023 11:58

So he’s just put on the ‘Robes of righteousness and garments of salvation’ 🙄

Do people really believe robes give these attributes? Bloody hell.

How far do you think that money would go? 🤣🤣

The individual cost to the tax payer is about £1.30! Split back across all of those services across the whole contry wouldn't even be noticed!
