I feel sick watching king charles

I don't want him as king. I feel sick watching a bit of the coronation this morning. I just caught a bit of it and I felt ill.

We are not subjects. It's 2023.
I don't want to be like an animal with an owner
I don't like the man. He has had so many scandals and bad friends. Why should he be allowed to rule over us.
This stuff shouldn't be going on in 2023.

Anyone think the same?

You do realise that the king has no constitutional power?

Appleass · 06/05/2023 11:37

I love it all !!

HelpMeGetThrough · 06/05/2023 11:37

Lol 😄 He doesn’t rule over us. He’s a figurehead.

Exactly this.

If it makes the terminally sick feel better, if the country was a ship, he'd be the bugger nailed to the bow, getting a face full of seawater.

OKwhatsNext · 06/05/2023 11:37

Drama much. Bet most will take the extra day off through right queue all those that now go up in arms they are working actually

I'm watching it 🙋

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 06/05/2023 11:37

I agree. Not my king. But then in 2023 we shouldn't have a king.

I think on some level I was ok with the queen representing the country because I sort of admired her stoicism and professionalism. Charles has no admirable qualities and the idea that who your parents are means anything is just so out of date it's laughable.

The whole thing is a national embarrassment.

Stuff? I am not a royalist, but I appreciate that we have a long tradition in this country of both good and bad monarchs who have, by and large ,stopped us as a nation being decimated by despots and fascists, invaded by fanatics and crushed by bigots.

Look around the rest of the world, what “stuff” would you rather we had. A society ruled by corrupt militia , religious fanatics, oligarchs? The choice isn’t wonderful, I will take a bit of ridiculously named officers dressed in fancy outfits parading about every decade or two over someone who tells me what to think at the point of a gun, or makes me cover myself when I go out in the street, or denies me a vote.

Mooshamoo · 06/05/2023 10:50

If I turn it off, it doesn't stop it from happening, does it?

The point is that I object to having him as King . I was wondering does anyone else feel the same

No. Only you. You stand alone. Nobody else.

The Royal Family have had hundreds of laws changed to their benefit.

And the evidence of that is?

KitKatLove · 06/05/2023 11:39

If it’s ok with Floella Benjamin then it’s ok with me.

Nevermind31 · 06/05/2023 11:39

He doesn’t rule over you - don’t be dramatic. His being has very little impact on your life

jannier · 06/05/2023 11:40

Someone has to be head of a country you won't always vote for the one who is even if they were elected. Having one consistent head for 30 years is more stabilising than 3 prime ministers in a few months. At least as king he doesn't make laws. Enjoy being sick...

kittensinthekitchen · 06/05/2023 11:40

Mooshamoo · 06/05/2023 10:51

Eh no. How can protesting about the royal family be dramatic. I'm not the first to protest about them. And I won't be the last.

If you know you're not the first, why do you question why you might be being unreasonable?

You are free to move somewhere that doesn't have a monarchy.

Male101 · 06/05/2023 11:41

Maybe it's because it's a corination of a king and not a queen. That's the real issue

BeggyMitchell · 06/05/2023 11:41

Am watching the latest Bridgerton effort on Netflix which seems an awful dumbed down parody of a sexed up Georgette Heyer novel - still preferable to that other farce however Wink.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 06/05/2023 11:36

I feel Charles himself is the one who most resembles a kept animal. He's got to perform some arcane tricks and rituals in funny garb before an audience like a circus creature, whether it suits his personality type or not.

Exactly - and he has to do it without crying and shaking, and if he feels sick on the day it's just tough luck. Poor OP wouldn't last a day in the job!

Figgygal · 06/05/2023 11:41

Oh do calm down
Or move to a Republic
Or just stop watching and get on with your day

SophieJo · 06/05/2023 11:42

I laughed out loud at the comment. So dramatic.

Songbird54321 · 06/05/2023 11:43

I can't say he has any effect on my day to day life. Today is no different, I'm following my usual Saturday routine because I don't care about the coronation. He doesn't rule really, does he?
Now, the tories make me sick, and I hate them and what they have done to this country, in particular my region, more than anything else. If you're going to hate someone for 'ruling' you, it's probably better to go for the politicians.

Noontimes · 06/05/2023 11:43

instead of being able to relax and enjoy a spot of gardening and telly watching in his old age he has to listen to endless tedious speeches at formal events. I wouldn’t do it for all the world. It would be so incredibly dull.

Wonnle · 06/05/2023 11:44

The fact that he doesn't pay tax on the profits from his Duchy set up narks me , 23 million it made last tax year and he argues it's not "profit" !

Iwasafool · 06/05/2023 11:44

Couldn't care less about it but let people who enjoy it get on with it. I'm going to have a look on netflix and find something else to watch. I'm getting over covid so haven't got the energy for anything much so netflix it is.

Any good recommendations?

notimagain · 06/05/2023 11:45

@CurlyhairedAssassin

Do you really think those hotels would be standing empty on any other weekend?

I agree with you that there are certainly some odd thoughts and maybe narrow ideas doing the rounds on the effects of today’s events on the UK economy.

Flights into/out of London, hotels, bars, would still be doing business and VAT would still be being paid by visitors on clothes, etc etc etc, Coronation or not.

Wether there is enough of a Coronation weekend mark up to fully offset the cost of the event to UK plc is another question..

loislovesstewie · 06/05/2023 11:36

If you look at each and every monarch, they were mostly adulterers, some were murderers, a huge number of them were completely immoral. It's rare to find one who actually behaved in an honourable way. The present king is no different. Again if you don't like him or any of them fine, but if you agree with an hereditary monarch then you get what you are given. If you want to pick and choose the head of state then you need to campaign for an elected head, and quite frankly lots of them worldwide have been shocking.
BTW I am not religious, but how do you know that both King and Queen might not repent of their sins. If you believe, do you not think that is what is important in your faith?

@loislovesstewie You make a very valid and correct point.

And while I can forgive and say, ok get on with your life.

I do worry about the example being set to children about how to behave and respect others, follow Ten Commandments etc when a person in one of the most prominent positions has broken at least 3 of them.

It makes me feel uneasy.

My mother and grandmother were huge Diana fans and when she died it was like a death in the family. So maybe that is an influence.

But overall in not abdicating on account of his behaviour he’s saying to us all “behave whatever why you want, it doesn’t matter”.
