I feel sick watching king charles

I don't want him as king. I feel sick watching a bit of the coronation this morning. I just caught a bit of it and I felt ill.

We are not subjects. It's 2023.
I don't want to be like an animal with an owner
I don't like the man. He has had so many scandals and bad friends. Why should he be allowed to rule over us.
This stuff shouldn't be going on in 2023.

Anyone think the same?

OP posts:
romatheroamer · 06/05/2023 11:33

I'm watching it out of interest/curiosity. I certainly wouldn't put up bunting or make any special arrangements. But instead of moaning about the monarchy why not protest about the f...ing appalling government who actually do have power over you and f.. you over. Glad to see from yesterday that people are waking up at last. The Tories, incidentally, must have been delighted when they found out the coronation would be straight after their bad results.

I thought I didn't care, and have been surprised by how viscerally disgusted I've been in the run-up to it. This ostentatious display of wealth and self-satisfaction while people are struggling to eat, heat their homes, keep their small businesses going. I think it was the suggestion of the public saying words of allegiance that was the final straw.

@EightChalk Thank you!!!

Every word of your post better describes how I feel today and during the run up. Yes ‘Viscerally disgusted’

CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/05/2023 11:25

Oh come on, that's a daft argument, this is a one off occasion. The whole affair will cost more to this country than the amount they will be spending on a hotel or a few cocktails in a bar or going to the tower of London.

Oh dear, you really don't understand economics do you?

The coronation is expected to boost the economy by over £200 million.

Mooshamoo · 06/05/2023 10:52

Are you usually a sheep? You never question people ruling over you?

Lol 😄 He doesn’t rule over us. He’s a figurehead. You do know we have a government, right? It’s just a bit of history/tradition. If you’re not interested, fair enough, but “feeling sick” is a bit much.

What do you think is going to happen once the ceremony is over? King Charles is going to come round your house and order you to tidy up your garden or put the rubbish out?? It has zero effect on you. There are loads of things on telly that I don’t like - most sport, for a start. I don’t posture melodramatically about it. Watch it, don’t watch it. No-one cares.

I’m not a royalist, but the posturing anti-monarchist crap is getting on my nerves.

ElonMust · 06/05/2023 11:34

Chickenwing2 · 06/05/2023 11:22

Those calling you dramatic don't think about the fact that we are paying for this shit. Ot angers me so much. Abolish the monarchy!

did you similarly complain about the many BILLIONS wasted on a useless track & trace system?

Or is it easier to moan about the monarchy on Coronation Day?

PhilNW · 06/05/2023 11:34

He does not "rule" anyone, it is a constitutional monarchy which effectively means the elected government (as elected by the people) rule on his behalf and he does as he is advised.

Watching Rishi Sunak makes me feel sick. Watching the coronation is just like watching a very expensive carnival parade really.

Expensive carnival parade sums it up nicely. Not sure I’d feel sick though. I don’t why those who are not really interested, like me, just didn’t watch it if it gives them such visceral reactions Confused.

Didtheythough · 06/05/2023 11:34

Going against the grain on this thread is seems, but I'm with you OP. The queens coronation was in a completely different time, people didn't have the information back then about how much it all costs us and how much influence they genuinely do still have, I was sort of ok with the queen rumbling on in the background as a relic from a bygone age, but this new coronation just seems insane in 2023, it highlights the power of a completely unelected leader and yes they do still have power, and unbelievable wealth and land and we are subjects, serfs, in 2023!

Applesinmyhouse · 06/05/2023 11:34

He won’t affect your life in any way. Unlike the Tory party.

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 11:34

@TonTonMacoute Oh dear you don't understand economics do you?

The whole affair is predicted to cost £250 million.

Nah there was someone like her on the radio the other day. Really needed professional help to chill out and worry about things that actually matter in her day to day life.

Right. So rather than put forward any compelling reason why the OP or the person on the radio shouldn't feel sickened by this, your go to response is to discredit them by suggesting their views are based in mental health problems? Do you have an Intelligent rebuttal of the OPs points?

The Royal Family have had hundreds of laws changed to their benefit.

A reported £250 million being spent on this charade. He could have just had a brief ceremony in the Abbey. Instead of this extravaganza.

The gospel singers are awesome though. Doubt that would have happened in a low key event! I'm apathetic about the monarchy but I'm enjoying watching some very talented performers and an excuse to sit on my arse chilling out with a teen and near teen under each arm!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/05/2023 11:30

Well, William and adultery.......just saying.

@CurlyhairedAssassin I know there have been rumours….

However, to my knowledge there has been no 15 year affair or pushing his wife to bulimia through neglect.

Nor has William said to a woman that a wishes to be a tampon.

I’m sorry but Charles should not be in the position that he is in. And Camilla certainly shouldn’t, I do not want to be forced to revere a former mistress.

Their behaviour was despicable….

vdbfamily · 06/05/2023 11:36

tofutti · 06/05/2023 11:31

Charles as Jesus, I’ve heard it all now.

I did not say Charles was Jesus,I clearly said he is viewing to SERVE his people, not lord it over them. Jesus was the servant king and Christians are asked to serve and not seek greatness.

I see a Hindi man who’s our PM standing in a church making a speech and think that’s a good thing. It wouldn’t happen in so many countries in this world.

I just see Tory. His roots/language/faith are irrelevant to the millions struggling with no cash to make ends meet.

rumbusiness · 06/05/2023 11:36

I'm Jewish and I was always 100% republican until we came close to having an actual outright antisemite, leading an antisemitic party, elected as head of state.

And while he wasn't elected, the UK instead elected a lying, cheating, utterly corrupt posh thug piece of shit who made incredibly repressive laws and immediately broke them all.

Or I suppose we could have voted for the third party, who keep a list of 'terf scum' in their offices.

I have lost all faith in the 'democratic' political process.

None of the 'democratic' options make me feel particularly angry about the monarchy, by contrast. At least I can watch a bit of family drama and enjoy the pageantry.

loislovesstewie · 06/05/2023 11:36

If you look at each and every monarch, they were mostly adulterers, some were murderers, a huge number of them were completely immoral. It's rare to find one who actually behaved in an honourable way. The present king is no different. Again if you don't like him or any of them fine, but if you agree with an hereditary monarch then you get what you are given. If you want to pick and choose the head of state then you need to campaign for an elected head, and quite frankly lots of them worldwide have been shocking.
BTW I am not religious, but how do you know that both King and Queen might not repent of their sins. If you believe, do you not think that is what is important in your faith?

vdbfamily · 06/05/2023 11:36

vowing

midsomermurderess · 06/05/2023 11:36

Such over-blown, hyperbolic nonsense.

AlltheFs · 06/05/2023 11:36

You are very welcome to leave and live in a Republic. No-one is stopping you.

connie26 · 06/05/2023 11:36

Don't bloody watch it then!

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 06/05/2023 11:36

I feel Charles himself is the one who most resembles a kept animal. He's got to perform some arcane tricks and rituals in funny garb before an audience like a circus creature, whether it suits his personality type or not.
