I feel sick watching king charles

I don't want him as king. I feel sick watching a bit of the coronation this morning. I just caught a bit of it and I felt ill.

We are not subjects. It's 2023.
I don't want to be like an animal with an owner
I don't like the man. He has had so many scandals and bad friends. Why should he be allowed to rule over us.
This stuff shouldn't be going on in 2023.

Anyone think the same?

Tbh I am quite enjoying the show. I didn't catch who she is but the woman giving the sword to them (she is still standing there) is 5* elegance

It's Penny Mordaunt

Anyone else getting glitchy sound on BBC?

But he hasn't...

But he very easily could have been, its simply based on accident of birth. That's what you get with hereditary monarchy. You don't get to vote them out or impeach them, you are stuck with the lottery of DNA.

So the question still stands, if Andrew were being crowned today would you still feel the same way?

Sunraes · 06/05/2023 12:40

I’m not in the UK but we’re watching. Beautiful ceremony, well done all involved!

Oh grow up. It’s part of our country’s history. I’m sick of these whiny comments. No one cares about the agenda you are trying to push. If you don’t like it go and move to Russia.

Well, Russia is a prime example of the fact that getting rid of a monarchy neither removes massively ostentatious and expensive public displays (even in the days of communism, they did like their massive military displays), nor scandalous behaviour and bad friends. Boris Johnson is further proof elected leaders can be corrupt, self-serving and wasteful. I do not think the expensive and disruptive process of getting rid of our monarchy would be worthwhile during a cost of living crisis - at least this expense attracts tourists and a lot of people actually enjoy it, whereas getting rid of the monarchy just reveals the country to be in even more of a shitty, troubled state than ever, as if a corrupt version of capitalism, Brexit and covid were not bad enough.

Moosh is Irish living in Ireland so doesn't affect her anyway.

I'm not Irish. I'm English. I was born in England.

I lived in ireland for a while.

I have just taken a new job in England, and have moved back to England.

People do tend to live in several different countries in their lives.

While were playing what ifs....

Maybe his behaviour would of been differant if he was 1st in line to the thrown

Oh come on, that's a daft argument, this is a one off occasion. The whole affair will cost more to this country than the amount they will be spending on a hotel or a few cocktails in a bar or going to the tower of London.

Do you know for a fact that “the whole affair will cost more to this country than the amount they will be spending on a hotel or a few cocktails in a bar or going to the tower of London”?

Moosh you change your story all the flipping time.😂You said you were living in Ireland two bloody days ago.

willWillSmithsmith · 06/05/2023 12:45

pleasehelpwi3 · 06/05/2023 11:54

You're wrong- it does effect your life due to the money the ceremony and the whole family costs. Child in an underfunded school? Ever had to wait for a dr's appt? Driven over a pot hole? Maybe if we didn't have a family with about £350 bn worth of public assets as its own, we could fund other stuff properly.

So if the monarchy were abolished we’d have all these things fixed? Are you saying countries that don’t have monarchies also don’t have pot holes, don’t have to wait for a gp appts and have all their taxes and government money only spent on the well being of the citizens? Are the citizens of non monarchy countries all financially better off than us as well, no homelessness, no poverty etc?

Who on earth would the King pay tax to? HMRC?

The queen had to start
'volunteering' tax when protests got too loud a few decades ago

The inheritance tax , capital gains tax , corporation tax - she did t fancy paying that

I object to having a king, full stop. Who it is is irrelevant really.

ommo · 06/05/2023 12:48

Another one of the rent-a- mob rent- a gob posters. They are out in force today.

Isoqueen · 06/05/2023 12:48

I think it is fantastic, so much preparation and first rate singing. I am not a monarchist by any means but you have to take your hat off to the British. There are always miseries , just ignore them. Whinging poms.

QueenMegan · 06/05/2023 12:49

Gosh so he should be a fugure head for worthy causes. Its a shame instead of belly aching he doesn’t pay tax like the rest of us on the obscene amount he gets from his estates. He sends his tenants a mug every year as a thank you.
Hes not King material as he is rude grumpy and down right mean.

HandaPanda · 06/05/2023 12:45

Come on, people. Enough with the bickering. Let's enjoy this in harmony together.

Not bickering. Questioning the values that this country holds that morally supports monarchy when so many people are struggling in our society.

Many people feel very strongly that the view of 'pipe down and be nice whilst we wave flags' just doesn't wash anymore. There is genuine anger in this country.
