I feel sick watching king charles

I don't want him as king. I feel sick watching a bit of the coronation this morning. I just caught a bit of it and I felt ill.

We are not subjects. It's 2023.
I don't want to be like an animal with an owner
I don't like the man. He has had so many scandals and bad friends. Why should he be allowed to rule over us.
This stuff shouldn't be going on in 2023.

Anyone think the same?

@Skyblue92

It's the only one with a bloody coronation hence the laughable robes !

Yet your initial post only talks about hereditary monarchy, hence others telling you about European monarchies. Yes may be only one with the coronation ceremony but are not the only one with a monarchy and some of the others do have accession ceremonies

HelpMeGetThrough · 06/05/2023 12:14

So he’s just put on the ‘Robes of righteousness and garments of salvation’

Must admit, when I heard matey say this, I did think it was a bit Monty Python.

I'm not interested in the RF at all, so not watching or listening to any if it.

In a few days, the news will be back to current issues. Just a case of avoiding it all.

Yet here you are.

ohblush · 06/05/2023 12:18

Moosh is Irish living in Ireland so doesn't affect her anyway.

Firsttimecaller · 06/05/2023 12:19

Mooshamoo · 06/05/2023 10:50

If I turn it off, it doesn't stop it from happening, does it?

The point is that I object to having him as King . I was wondering does anyone else feel the same

"I don't want ... (a) king"
Yes
Just off to finally join Republic

Of course not. It's symbolic.

Symbolic = meaningless

Oh grow up. It’s part of our country’s history. I’m sick of these whiny comments. No one cares about the agenda you are trying to push. If you don’t like it go and move to Russia.

@ohblush which part of Ireland does @Mooshamoo live in?

The U.K. or R.O.I.?

Are you usually a sheep? You never question people ruling over you?

I have far more issues with our gov ruling us than the royal family.

Well said.

Nothingisblackandwhite · 06/05/2023 12:24

I think him being king is good , it will help people realise how useless it is to have a head of state that has absolutely nil value to the country . Hopefully it will help the monarchy come down soon .

overitunderit · 06/05/2023 11:12

I don't understand this "subjects" and "serfs" thing. He doesn't rule over us in any actual sense. It all feels a bit conspiracy theory and dramatic. We've always had a monarch but we are also a democracy. No-one asks you to bow and scrape to him. If you're feeling a bit sick I would have a cup of tea and a sit down.

I agree with this. I’m definitely no royalist and not even British, but I don’t quite get all these “Not my king!” statements.
I don’t see him as “my” king either, but as the king of the country I’m currently living in.
He doesn’t own you, he doesn’t really rule over you, why see yourself as an animal with an owner? Nobody requests that of you.

Itdjgsurchg · 06/05/2023 12:27

Some of the most liberal European democracies have monarchs- Sweden, Norway, Netherlands and Denmark come to
mind. We are certainly not the only ones.

Charles and Camilla were well received in Germany the other month, the King even tried to speak German. Much better than the elected Tories who just want to divide us from Europe.

I must confess I do feel uneasy at all the coronation splendour when there is an economic crisis but I have to say I am much more embarrassed by our elected leaders, especially the likes of Boris and Truss and Brexit and they definitely are talked about by other Europeans and making us a laughing stock.

Do you actually feel ruled over? No, neither do I. Just turn it off if you're not interested - some people enjoy it.

Meepledeep · 06/05/2023 12:28

I'm not a huge Royalist although I do find the history and tradition of the monarchy fascinating and wouldn't say I'm for a Republic at all. What I dislike about the 'debate' though is the insistence from some (not necessarily on this thread) that if you don't mind the royals or see the issues in society being way beyond them and their existence you're stupid, ignorant or whatever else. Ironically seems to usually be the case that the most 'progressive' people are the least open minded to the idea that others hold different views and that's okay.

Honestly interested, do you think you would still feel the same if Andrew were being crowned today?

Florenz · 06/05/2023 12:31

Who on earth would the King pay tax to? HMRC?

BadNomad · 06/05/2023 12:36

Thank goodness you live in a Republic then. Charles being king has zero impact on you or where you live.

Odd thread.

Deadpalm · 06/05/2023 12:37

Tbh I am quite enjoying the show. I didn't catch who she is but the woman giving the sword to them (she is still standing there) is 5* elegance

Irisheyesareshining · 06/05/2023 12:37

There will always be leaders and it’s very much a role of service . Do you feel sick at work if you have a boss ?
