To wonder how a biological male has won a women's cycling race?

Seriously why are the sporting organisations so slow to stop biological men from entering the world of women's sport that they so predictably end up winning and stealing titles and opportunities from biological women.

The mind boggles in rage.

Need to erase the records, apologies and compensate women who lost out on medals or qualification for any event to a man, recognise this was wrong (all sports) and make no apologies to any men who cheated their way to medals. Only then will the governing bodies be able to start regaining trust, which they barely deserve, and govern women's sport. A few high profile resignations would help the situation too.
This has to stop

That's so unfair on you guys @SleepyRich

I don't actually believe a word of it. The venue are being cowardly and have bowed to TRA pressure. As if the staff have such control over bosses.

Bring on the discrimination claim. Refusing a service on the basis of a protected characteristic is blatant discrimination.

There are hundreds of examples where managers have caved in under this situation. The staff just say we are not working and if you insist you are transphobic. You think managers of venues at the fringe want to be labelled transphobic.
What exactly is the discrimination case that can be brought? What service is being refused because of the characteristic of anyone involved.

Not to mention pregnant and screwed have been trying to bring actual discrimination cases to court for years with varying levels of success, it's not a given you'll succeed or recover any money even if you secure a court order. why are managers so afraid ... i'd have told them to fuck off or i'll replace them by lunchtime.

Iheartmysmart · 02/05/2023 11:06

How is this helping the huge problem of getting girls involved in sport at school. No matter what they do and how good they are, all it takes is a third rate man to put on a pair of dangly earrings and some lipstick, say he is now a woman and bang go their chances of excelling in their chosen field. What is the point of even bothering in the first place.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 02/05/2023 11:06

However since they've started walking in on women getting changed, walking around from the shower naked (male bodied)

Funny how we're constantly told how much they hate their male bodies and would never get their penis out like that, yet every day we hear stories of these men violating women's boundaries like this.

They can’t compensate for lost opportunities and lost career progression.
e.g potential presenting jobs because of being high profile in the sport. Coming 4th doesn’t get you those opportunities

This just doesn't happen.

I have an employment law background.

Employers don't bow down to demands of employees, they find staff who will work instead. Especially in the hospitality industry.

The Forstarter case confirmed that gender critical beliefs are valid and that a person cannot be discriminated against for holding them. There is also a possibility a claim can be made on the basis of other protected characteristics of Sex and Sexual Orientation.

Part of the issue that TRAS have with Joanna Cherry is that she is a lesbian who believes that lesbians are ONLY single sex attracted women. There is an argument to be heard that she has been deplatformed for being a single sex attracted woman who is trying to protect her right to say that only women can be lesbians.

The service being refused is the fact that she was scheduled to perform and now is not.

At the minute it's very much in the pander stage . How are we going to get it to the based on sex stage ?

Honestly, female cyclists are going to have to speak up and start boycotting. Yes it's hard but it's hard for any women to speak up. If they care about their careers or the careers of the women who follow them then they cannot pass the buck or "just play nicely. "

So short term it's a lose-lose situation. In the hope they eventually win

littlecottonbud · 02/05/2023 11:29

I hate how far that this has come - a person born male - who 'chooses' to identify as a female can do this - even use womens toilets - which I HATE, Sharon Davies is doing her best on social media to help find a solution to this but 😡

EveryWitchWaybutLoose · 02/05/2023 11:37

Men don’t care about women’s sport.

Men like to win, even by cheating.

The cyclist example of this thread is quite the perfect example of the madness, - man believes their personality is typically feminine, that they would prefer to present as a female, then goes onto behave in a stereotypically male way in aggressively pushing to the front and barging anyone that comes close. Not saying women can't be aggressive or cheat or must be delicate, just that if we're labelling behaviours as male or female then that cyclist was reported to be acting just like an aggressive bloke.

CordyLines · 02/05/2023 12:24

I don't understand why a boycott by women wouldn't work where a TW is competing. Surely the bio women competitors would never win anyway.

Women need to fight this fight.
We got the right to vote.

We now need to stand up to this nonsense.
Women mensturate.

Only Women Bleed

(which is a great song)

They might have a contract with their sponsors that they need to appear/take part at key races and events, or all events in a series, unless injured. Plus there will likely be prize money or opportunities for all podium finishers even if they don't win.
Some might be qualifying events for other races. World rankings or points systems might be worked out by the accumulation of results over a series of races

CordyLines · 02/05/2023 12:35

@Fizbosshoes
OK, got it now thanks. But where aTW competes, the women are really just turning up to compete amongst themselves.

fantasyhomesbythesea · 02/05/2023 12:39

I'm just looking at the article now and without having to inspect the photo too closely it is quite clear that the person on the winners podium is a man.

And he obviously knows that he is.
The whole situation is an embarrassment.
I have no words😬

TonTonMacoute · 02/05/2023 12:44

The UCI, the international governing body, needs to get into line with other governing bodies and put a stop to this now. They are making the sport of cycling look ridiculous.

RosaBonheur · 02/05/2023 12:50

Yellowdays · 02/05/2023 10:18

"Time for men to stop cheating and to stop sporting bodies for being so misogynistic and enabling the cheats."

Absolutely. I'm fine with trans but in sport its ridiculous.

Why is it fine in other areas but not fine in sport?

I'm always a bit puzzled when people say this is where the line should be drawn.

I believe women's sport is important. But more important than vulnerable female prisoners being raped by trans identifying male inmates in prison? More important than female rape survivors not being able to get single sex support? More important than women who have requested single sex intimate care being told that a trans woman working as a nurse meets the definition of a female nurse?

Nikenomore · 02/05/2023 13:02

It’s so unfair and unsafe for women and girls.

It’s also worrying that the Democrats in America are not voting to protect women and girls sports.

I know someone personally affected by this. The way funding and sponsorship works meant their career was effectively stolen, you don’t get the same funding, training support, coverage and sponsorship for 3/4/5th.

see; this has such a massive knock-on effect to women in more ways than one. Not only does he a) cheat and therefore 'win' a women's race and displace the true winner who doesn't get her shining moment on the podium, he b) gets the monetary awards and kudos from sycophants that are not justifiably earnt, but c) the real women that were unfairly placed 2nd/3rd etc are all done out of fair winnings, future funding and future sponsorships (unless there are sponsors out there who are unwilling to sponsor a man in a women's race)!!!! This pisses me off so much.

And so? If it doesn't matter enough to female cyclists to draw the line, if they just carry on keeping their heads down and carrying on, climbing onto the podium for silver medals and smiling, then this situation will carry on and drag on, possibly for years. If it matters then they need to take a stand.

Sugarfree23 · 02/05/2023 15:17

@DisquietintheRanks that's easy for you to say when your not relying on your sponsor money to pay the bills.

The choice is more like a, keep cycling in the hope the governing bodies sort it out or b, cycle away and get a job.

But for everyone who cycles away they'll be another 3 or 4 who go with option A they'll be a dozen thinking option B.

The change needs to come from sponsors and governing bodies.
