To get the ick with a man I have loved since I was 16. I’m 49

I went out with a guy when I was 16 and he was 23. Loved him, like actually adored him.
I got divorced 3 years ago and looked him up on Facebook. He was also divorced so we got chatting. Everything was great and we got on like a house on fire. Been out for a few drinks, slept together, it’s amazing.
Tonight we went to Tesco. I was at the checkout and he wanted to go back for milk. I stood there and waited, and then heard this god awful squeaking noise. Literally the whole shop
turned round to him doing a toe jabby run, squeaking his trainers down the aisle. I was beside myself with embarrassment.
The attraction has literally disappeared after 30 years. I’m so sad :(

I once quite liked someone. Then I imagined him queuing up to buy the t-shirt he was wearing and after that I could barely look at him.

You imagined him queuing up.. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 brilliant!!!

Oh you cow! You fantastic cow! I was thinking of this randomly last night 🤣

'Firestarter' doesn't have so much squeak, but there is a bit of toe-tippy bouncing from Keith.

Like this?

But not a duck, I'm assuming, and with milk.

I'm sure I saw a comedian recommending wearing crocs when having sex...for traction

I dont think I have EVER laughed so much at a post, that is hilarious @IcakethereforeIam 😂😂

Love the Mick Jagger/ David Bowie one too!!

Brilliant thread, up there with the Sistine Chapel

Devonshiregal · 29/04/2023 23:03

I’m so embarrassed for your future self who’s going to be so cringed out at this comment. If you think 56 is old (and what? Should just shrivel up and die?) you’re going to be in for a shock when you realise “old age” is only a few years off for you. Poor dear.

RelentlessMother · 29/04/2023 23:06

I packed up and left a bf once because he would not stop eating with his mouth open and using a toothpick. I had asked him many times to stop it. Once he went to work and I packed and left. Never looked back.

mistermagpie · 29/04/2023 22:55

Toe jabby run!! I can picture it completely, and a man in his 50s too? No thanks.

For what it's worth, for the right person you might find you can overlook some truly ickworthy stuff. My husband says 'yummy', for instance. I have begged him to stop, but he's his own man. The thing is, he's just lovely and perfect for me in every other way, so I can let this one go, and I bet I do some really annoying stuff myself if I'm honest. I think the actual relationship-ending ick happens when the relationship wasn't right in the first place, it's just our subconscious letting us know.

At least it's not "nom"

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 29/04/2023 23:10

yeah I get the 16 thing is a bit creepy now, but it was all fine then.

No it wasn't.

But I don't know why you're so surprised that the guy you fancied at 16 doesn't hit the same spot when you meet again 33 years later.

Jellifulfruit · 29/04/2023 23:11

Toe jabby run 😩

HowDid · 29/04/2023 23:14

The thing about cringe- repulsion is that it isn't logical but is quite visceral. Once it happens it happens.

Best one I've heard was a young woman being shown round a new gym/pool facility with a much older guy she'd started dating who asked the man showing them round if you could "hire swimming kit" - meaning trunks and speedos! She said she wanted to vomit.

You’ll be ‘old’ one day yourself as will your partner/husband if you have one. Comments like this give me the ick, unfortunately my first husband never had the chance to grow old…. This is such a horrible comment tbh.

How cuntish to post a reply like that.

OldFan · 29/04/2023 23:21

Is 23 and 16 that weird?

It's just one ick @Kearsie . You'll get over it.

RelentlessMother · 29/04/2023 23:21

@LouBaloo ick

advice222 · 29/04/2023 23:22

If someone posted on MN that a man had gone off her completely because her trainers squeaked in a supermarket he would be vilified!

Putting aside the fact that 56 is hardly an 'old man' is it? I mean, Brad Pitt is older than that! But what are you going to do when you get 'old' then? Unless you are a lesbian and not put off by 'old women', you're going to have to just stay single after a certain age or date massively younger men aren't you?

I don't actively fancy 70 year olds but I presume that I will when I'm 70. I certainly fancied 16 year olds when I was that age and definitely don't now, so I think we can assume that most people's tastes mature a bit as they get older. Hopefully yours will too?

@LouBaloo ick

Are you always so horrible?

miniegg3 · 29/04/2023 23:25

Ballinluig · 29/04/2023 20:25

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I once got the ick for a guy I ADORED when he sent me a selfie of him when he was on holiday with his family, and there was an open plastic bottle of Coke on the table! No rhyme or reason, it happens to us all!

Wait.. what was wrong with having a bottle of Coke? 🤣

LouBaloo · 29/04/2023 23:25

wispatwirl · 29/04/2023 23:23

Don’t feed it, it clearly has some issues going on.

FictionalCharacter · 29/04/2023 23:25

Doing a childlike run and making the noise deliberately is definitely ickworthy. Yuck.
