Believing in ghosts

StupidFaces · 24/04/2023 08:34

I used to, now I think it’s ridiculous. People have been trying to prove the existence of ghosts for over 150 years and yet not one scrap of credible evidence to suggest they exist. I wish they did, I’d love it to be real but it just doesn’t make sense for them to exist does it?

Surely if ghosts were real, abattoirs would be haunted to fuck by the ghosts of dead cows? How come nobody ever sees a ghost dressed in trackies and Nike trainers? Why are they only ever dressed in Victorian/medieval clothes etc?

Do people think ghosts of fish haunt the ocean?

For those that do believe … what do you think about the above scenarios?

For those that done believe … would you be happy to spend a night alone in a supposedly haunted castle?

Nobody? Maybe I’m a ghost 😂😂

No I don't believe but I understand why people want to

6559maybe · 24/04/2023 17:14

Maybe you do see ghosts in trackies and trainers but don’t realize they are ghosts…

Ladybird69 · 24/04/2023 17:15

I’ve seen a ghost wearing jeans and shirt thought he was an ordinary bloke until he just disappeared! Was witnessed by 4 other people.
live seen few ghosts but I can’t tell you if they are dead people or a time slip! But there is definitely something out there.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 24/04/2023 17:16

Apparently you only become a ghost if you have unfinished business. Not sure what unfinished business a fish or cow would have.
I've also heard that animals don't have souls which is why we don't get ghost animals because the ghost is the soul.

I don't really believe. I'd like to. I've stayed in haunted hotels and worked in some very haunted buildings, even been on my own in them for hours late at night/wee hours of the morning. Only ever had one unexplained experience.

I like it!

Also … what’s to say we’re not dead … maybe I died on that horrific boat trip in Thailand 6 years ago but I didn’t realise and carried on as if I was living … the people who speak to me etc are just a figment only my imagination because I only see what I want to see … Maybe someone else is living in my house now wondering what the typing noise is … 👻

I’d like to think ghosts exist but agree that this has never been proven. Also, the general consensus of believers is that ghosts are troubled souls who haven’t passed over so maybe we should be glad we don’t see loads of them.
I would like to know what happens to our energy when we die.

MeetMyCat · 24/04/2023 17:18

There is definitely something we don’t understand, maybe not ghosts, but time replay?

millypeggyandpandora · 24/04/2023 17:19

My daughter saw a ghost only last week, while sipping her morning coffee. A young boy ran across the room and disappeared. But, it could have been a time slip, who knows!

I agree with this. Sometimes it feels like time is not entirely linear. I don't think actual conscious dead people are floating about looking at us asleep in bed, but I'm more inclined to believe in people seeing repeated clips of faded people walking through what used to be alleyways and the like.

MidlandCatGirl · 24/04/2023 17:26

I’m going to come across as a total odd bod but I’ve seen a fair number of ghosts and apart from a monk (who was also seen in the same house in the same place but by a different relative), they’ve all been in fairly modern - ie 1940’s onwards - clothing.

I just think some of us are shut off to seeing other things whereas some of us are more open.

InterestingWeasel · 24/04/2023 17:27

I believe that traumatic events can leave behind sort of energy marks on places... so thats why places can feel "off" like old prisions, hospitals, battlefields etc.

Individual ghosts.. not sure.

I do think its ignorant to completely declare something impossible just because it hasn't been proven by science yet... all you can say currently is there isn't proof ghosts do or do not exist. Of course, it cN be hard to prove a negative.

LuciferRising · 24/04/2023 17:28

Is what we know about life, death and the universe it or do you think we may discover more? We believed ourselves to be the centre of everything; are we still believing this?

I don't believe people have seen ghosts, I accept I may be wrong. I dont velieve we are the centre of the universe. I live in hope there is something much more exciting like ghosts, aliens, omnipotent beings, angels. Non I see any evidence for at the moment.

Offensiveapprently · 24/04/2023 17:30

I guess I do believe. There is what appears to be a child in my house. It's a child that runs out of the corner of my eye. I've seen it run across doorways it's looks like it's not wearing any clothes a bit like a kid running around after a bath. It just moves so fast. It always makes me smile. I tend to see it in small clusters of a few days then nothing for weeks.

cariadlet · 24/04/2023 17:36

I used to believe in ghosts , aliens etc as a kid. I was really interested in the paranormal.

Now I'm a complete sceptic and think it's a load of nonsense.

"Paranormality" by Richard Wiseman is interesting and a very easy read. It debunks lots of myths. It includes a section about ghosts.

AtChoService · 24/04/2023 17:38

Maybe they need to spend years building up the energy to be visible, so we mostly only see Victorian or older ones.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/04/2023 17:43

I’ve never seen or sensed anything, but I know very down to earth people who have - and have been severely shaken out of their former scepticism. Not to mention a relative’s dog, who refused absolutely to put a paw over the threshold of a certain part of their ‘new’ old house.

Someone local who heard about it came and ‘cleared’ the place (there was a bit of a tragic story there) and after that the dog was quite happy to enter. None of the family had ever sensed anything untoward. I dare say someone will now tell me the dog had imagined it….

I do think some people’s brains are more sensitive to whatever there might be. In a similar vein, my DM, who was a hyper sensitive type anyway, was occasionally acutely telepathic over long distances, but only when someone close was in some sort of acute distress. She would have dreamt at the same time of exact details, later proved to be spot on.

But because it was only ever when someone was in distress - and in many decades I only ever knew of two instances - her ability could never have been proved under lab conditions.

Talipesmum · 24/04/2023 17:43

I don’t even believe in souls as a separate kind of thing - we’re just tied up with our brains, we are our bodies, and when they die that’s it. I love all sorts of fantasy / sci fi fiction, and historical novels, but ghost stories really annoy me! Don’t know why I can suspend disbelief and enjoy imagination for fantasy and sci fi but the moment it’s ghost related I just lose interest. I guess it’s because they’re so often couched as a troooo stoooorrry.

Does that mean that if I die before I submit my tax return I’m going to haunt the offices of HMRC forever…?

IHeartGeneHunt · 24/04/2023 17:45

I'm on the time slip side of believing

MeetMyCat · 24/04/2023 18:09

Good look with that one, they all work from home these days! 😃

WolfFoxHare · 24/04/2023 18:18

I don’t really believe in ghosts. But if you saw one in tracky bottoms and nikes, would you even know, unless they were in your house or they walked through a wall in front of you?

GrimDamnFanjo · 24/04/2023 18:19

I think it's energy/time slip/recording/physics.
Like impressions can be left in places and seen again.

LittleDitto · 24/04/2023 18:23

I think it all works in a similar way that cassette/video tapes work. ie; a “natural” recording.

LittleDitto · 24/04/2023 18:24

But I forgot to add, that I think included certain environmental situations/conditions have the ability to make these recordings replay (which is why we see the same thing or why only some people see these things because it’s all by chance)
