Diane Abbott

To say that Diane Abbott is doing her best to help the Labour Party to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?

Hideous antisemitism seemingly not gone away at all and add that to the horrendous misogyny in the Labour Party I wonder at this point why ANYONE would vote for them.

AIBU?

The dismissal of the experience of Jews of racism on this thread takes my breath away.

It's grotesque.

It's clear antisemitism is on the rise again in the West after 80 short years.

You can see it here.

It's grotesque.

Yes it is sobering and frightening.

Whoopi Goldberg isn't remotely Jewish and has never claimed to be

I’m sure I read it somewhere.

So if being Jewish is not a race, why does it show up in my DNA on my Ancestry results? Why are some genetic diseases more prevalent among Jewish people?

*It's certainly not because of a religious belief. 🙄

Thank you. My ancestory.co.uk result came back as 100%European Jewish. My great nephew died of a condition only Ashkenazi Jews have. My GP refer Jewish couples for genetic screening if they ask before starting families.

Is there anything else people would like to take away from us. We are apparently not a race, we changed our family names on arrival in the Uk, we were told not to wear signs of our faith because they make us a target.

I have no religious belief but I am an Orthdox Jew and live in a Jewish area. Our cemeteries are frequently vandalised, bricks thrown through windows, swastikas scrawled on the gates of our synagogue, and those of us who just happen to look typically Jewish like me, have been called a fucking Jew? I’ve been bullied at work, my DGD at 7 has been racially targeted at her school where she is the only Jewish child. Diane Abbott can fuck the fuck off and anyone else who don’t think we experience racism, along with people of Irish and Travellers.

Solidarity with you and am so angry for what you have to put up with.

Like you, I'm 100% European Jewish. I am a cultural and ethnic Jew, rather than a religious one. That said, these past few years I have taken more of an interest and started to practise, in part I think because I feel I have to given the oppression and persecution Jews have faced, and still face. Now, when I fill in forms, I no longer state I am white British. The number of Jews in the UK is less than half of one percent. I want to be counted.

At school, the most bullying antisemites I encountered were the history teachers. One even refused to teach the Holocaust. As I missed several classes at the beginning of the school year due to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, I was already marked out and othered at the start. Over the past two decades, I have been spat at, sent revolting emails from strangers when I did OLD telling me I should have been gassed. I even had an-ex close friend who is a huge Corbyn/Momentum supporter tell me I am ignorant about antisemitism. He is not Jewish. Being told I don't understand antisemitism is a theme among those whom are not Jewish.

I live in London and have done all my life. Depsite being one of the most cultured, urban and cosmopolitan cities in the world, the antisemitism is getting worse every year. This thread is not even half of what we have to put up with.

And it largely comes from the left which goes to show ignorant, stupid, prejudiced and racists come from both ends of the political spectrum.

I reported your previous post for being anti-Semitic Abhanmor, so I guess that's why it was deleted. I neither know nor care what ethnicity you are.

Nonsense. I stated it quite clearly in the post and also in a subsequent one which you haven't got around to banning.

Either you didn't read them or you are flat out lying 🤥

MalagaNights · 23/04/2023 20:26

Is it offensive to consider antisemitism as separate to racism? Why?

Yes it's extremely offensive.
And you are missing something crucial.
The Jews are a race.

A race which has, only 80 years ago experienced death camps in Europe and continues to be threatened with extermination.
The hatred of the Jews is racism in a very pure form.

It's evil, pernicious and it seems enduring.

Jews are not a race they are however a religious group

Muslims are not a race either , nor are any other religions

I don’t understand; I know about the accusations against Corbyn and the lack of him ousting people, but how has he (personally) normalised antisemitism?

This question sounds goady but it isn’t meant. It’s a genuine question from curiosity. As I don’t get how it’s attributed to him so feel I must have missed something - possibly quite a lot?

I gave a very, very specific example upthread of an incident I witnessed - without naming names - about the antisemitic culture enabled by Corbyn and his closest crew, and how their accommodation of antisemites impacted Jewish members of the LP. I know of many similar incidents that took place in other CLPs. There is also plenty information online that can help address your questions, as well as a MN thread last year on David Baddiel's documentary, which although a sewer of antisemitism, included a lot of very specific and horrendous examples. I'm sure it won't be hard to find. The fact is, the hard left has always had a problem with Jewish people because they don't fit their anti-Western narrative, and sadly Corbyn's Labour brought that into the mainstream and made it almost acceptable to question, goad and belittle Jews over their fears and concerns.

I mean, there's a Jewish PP above who was told by a non-Jewish Momentum member that she didn't understand antisemitisim FFS! So there's another gross example of how it became so normalised under his watch.

danceyourselfdizzy1 · 23/04/2023 21:59

Any evidence of that ?

Notwavingbutsignalling · 23/04/2023 22:09

Isn’t the problem that racism shows itself in different ways to different groups?

with black men it might be excessive targeting or stop and search.

with travellers it exists in being barred from so many places ( including burning down a housing estate where travellers were moving into in Ireland)

with the Jewish community it exists ( for example) with attacks on schools ( when was the last time a predominantly black school in the U.K. was threatened with a bomb?)

so, different groups have different areas where they are targeted but they are all part of racism and experienced as such?

btw, stats on travellers show some truly horrendous facts

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/50-of-travellers-die-before-39-study-1.808703

50% of Travellers die before 39 - study

Some 50 per cent of Travellers die before their 39th birthday and some 70 per cent fail to live past the age of 59.

TheMarzipanDildo · 23/04/2023 22:10

The Nazis murdered 6 million Jews on the basis of their race. Genetic theory was the justification for this. It had very little to do with religion.

Strange that there are people on this thread who don’t seem to know that.

Wonnle · 23/04/2023 22:06

But being Jewish isn't measured by going to synagogue and keeping kosher. It's more than a religion - one is born a Jew - if one's mother is Jewish, then the child is too.

David Baddiel mentions this all the time. He's an atheist, but he would still be rounded up for being Jewish.

soddingspiderseason · 23/04/2023 22:11

The antisemitism on this thread is just appalling.

Notwavingbutsignalling · 23/04/2023 22:12

Also, I think DA’s comments played into ( intentionally or not) the idea that there is ranking of who should be viewed as the most disadvantaged group.

She was talking from her experience as she sees and experiences things and the lack of objectivity here puzzles me.

Notwavingbutsignalling · 23/04/2023 22:12

Sorry, I mean the lack of objectivity in her analysis

IamSuperTired · 23/04/2023 22:13

I can't stand her. I met her once when I was 16 and she was so patronising it pretty much completely put me off ever entering politics (something I had up to that point thought was going to be my career!!)

It's not up to me to 'ban' comments. I reported yours for being antisemitic and MNHQ decided to remove it - whether because of my report or not. And I don't know or care what your ethnic group is. I call out racism when I see it.

Do you mean posters who consider the treatment of Jews in history and at present to be appalling and bigoted, but not ‘racism’? Or other comments?

I believe Hitler went back generations, it's something my children are conscious of.

She said all Black people experience racism as a lifelong construct and white skinned people generally do not. She did not say that white skinned people never have experienced racism, just not universally and for “all their lives.” She may have been clumsy but do you really think Diane Abbott, a Black woman interested in civil rights, would be racist in the way people are painting her to be?

This.
And lots of racists like Farage are jumping in her. Again.
Surprise surprise.
