Dalai llama ask a child to suck his tongue

Has anyone seen the new video of the Dalai Llama asking a child to suck his tongue. Yes. It sounds bizarre. But it is in the news right now. The video is out there. And the dalai llama is apologising on social media now

Im devastated! I went to see the Dalai Llama in India. He gave a speech on accepting and loving everyone, and that it didn't matter what religion we are. I always told people that it was one of the highlights of my life.

I went through life thinking he was a good person, that he was one of the good ones. To see this today, makes me think oh no is he yet another abuser.

Some people have remarked about this video that sticking your tongue out at someone is a greeting in Tibet.

However - the Dalai Llama kisses the child on the lips in the video, and asks the child to suck his tongue. It does not look right at all.

He has apologised on twitter now.

What do you all think?

It's just disgusting.

I'm really sad. Because I went to India to see the Dalai llama. I read loads of his books. I really thought he was one of the good ones.

If even he is an abuser.

There's no one left. :(. This world is dark.

WTF🤯

IAmcuriousyellow · 10/04/2023 13:01

The video on the dreaded daily mail website is 2 minutes or so long and shows the whole encounter. It’s so grim I can’t quite take it in.

TempName247 · 10/04/2023 13:01

What could precede it to make it acceptable though?

The video makes for very uncomfortable viewing. The little boy visibly winces and hesitates when told to suck his tongue.

Newnamenewname109870 · 10/04/2023 13:02

What was his reasoning? Genuinely?

Mooshamoo · 10/04/2023 13:03

The little boy backs away and is clearly uncomfortable. Yes.

Lots of links on the thread I have linked to just above your comment.

IfYouDontAsk · 10/04/2023 13:03

FFS what possible ‘context’ could make an adult in a position of power asking a child to suck their tongue acceptable???? This is never, ever, ever ok.

Westfacing · 10/04/2023 13:03

He has form, can't remember details and don't want to Google it!

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 10/04/2023 13:03

He was my hero! 😭

IncompleteSenten · 10/04/2023 13:04

I saw that clip. It was deeply disturbing.

I can't imagine what wider context would make that at all acceptable.

Maybe oh god a snake just bit my tongue you have to suck the poison out right now or I'll die.

Can't really think of another.

On the surface it sounds awful, but this could be a case of judicious editing to make a scenario sound substantially worse than it was.

What could make it sound better? It's absolutely disgusting.

Newnamenewname109870 · 10/04/2023 13:06

I wonder if he was joking

I can’t see the video though

What possible context could there be which would make that comment acceptable? There is no situation in which an adult telling a child to do that is anything other than abusive. Ever.

IfYouLikePenisColadas · 10/04/2023 13:08

Never hold famous people in high esteem. Never idolise anyone.

Yes, he’s gross.

Thesharkradar · 10/04/2023 13:08

Maybe he has some cognitive issues or brain tumour?

UnRavellingFast · 10/04/2023 13:08

He also made a comment that a female Dalai Lama would have to be attractive. I assume he was granted the role based in his profound handsomeness 🧐
