To not understand how people live like this?

I went round to someones house today and they were sat there in the living room, no window open, all dark and smoking and drinking. It was disgusting. Made my excuses and left. Cant understand how people can live like that? No kids in the house but even so. Some people are so unhealthy?

Oh ffs. People live different lives shocker! Don’t be judgemental - just don’t visit very often.

AutisticLegoLover · 08/04/2023 18:41

Did you visit my ex? He'd tell me off for opening the curtains because then potential burglars could see his dvd and cd collection 🙄

squidwid · 08/04/2023 18:42

Ugh unhealthy. It's sunny and lovely. Open the windows.

How is it unhealthy? I'm autistic. I'm light sensitive. The sun actually hurts me. How is that lovely?

reddwarfgeek · 08/04/2023 18:47

My brother does this. Single man in his 30s although he did it when with his ex. Their idea of a good time was sitting inside watching films, drinking and smoking, curtains drawn. Day in day out, year round. Depressing. Dark dingy and it smelled.
I used to ask him why. He said they enjoyed relaxing and not everyone wants or needs to go out. Couldn't do it myself.

MysteryBelle · 08/04/2023 18:48

There are times the window blinds might stay closed depending on trouble sleeping the night before or the sun bearing down hot in the summer.

But almost always a nice part of my day is getting up in the morning with the ritual of opening the curtains, shutters, and blinds. Letting the light in. It is important to me. Yet my dh and ds wouldn’t care if they stayed closed all day. I don’t understand the way they think but there it is.

I agree, I would not feel good sitting in a darkened room during the day and smoking and drinking. Not my thing. Something to consider though, they might feel like hiding away from the world for a bit and closing the blinds makes sense in that case. As an everyday routine, no. I love opening the windows to the day and if I can get fresh air in, even better 😍

I know someone who keeps her curtains closed in case someone looks through her window and breaks in to steal her £1000's worth of Lladro. Every flat surface is covered in it.

God, who'd want it?

a relative whose sitting room is visible from the road, opens the curtains when he goes to bed at night,
so there are no questions about his sleeping habits!

What does that mean?

dittbtdity · 08/04/2023 19:00

I keep my curtains shut to keep the room warm

I don’t understand this. Why does he open the curtains at night??

Flamesbegin · 08/04/2023 19:02

I see it all the time. In my job I visit lots of houses where you wipe your feet on the way out, all with children in the home. Some people live like that as kids and try their hardest to get out of it, other settle in and continue the cycle.

cakencookieobssessed · 08/04/2023 19:03

Well it's not how I live my life but it's not difficult to understand that we're all different, and some people might like living like that, or are not happy living like that and are stuck.

Love this! The Fun Police left.

I judge those who keep curtains shut!

I assume they are protecting their watercolours from the sunlight. That's why mine are shut a fair bit.

What?

Jonei · 08/04/2023 19:17

You would be shocked at how many people actually live.
Behind closed doors and all that.

MathsNervous · 08/04/2023 19:17

Curtains shut here usually during the day to block out the sun. But keep judging 🤷

What does that mean?

Probably so people don't work out his daily sleeping/waking routine.

EddyF · 08/04/2023 19:24

mydogisthebest · 08/04/2023 16:55

Sorry to disappoint you but I notice all the closed curtains when walking my dog. Not the slightest bit interested in looking into people's houses and, as I said, if they don't want anyone looking in get some nets. Not difficult is it

Net curtains are awful and so outdated.

How? If he's not in the front room he could be in the pub. Or the kitchen...

Moaning5 · 08/04/2023 19:31

I personally would hate it - I’m an ‘up early, windows open, washer on’ kind of person.

DD like curtains closed, windows closed, messy dump.

Each to their own I guess !

It's a beautiful day here. ALL of my windows and my patio doors have been open all day (apart from when I was out). I seem to be the only one in my neighbourhood like this. Next door all windows closed, across the road barely a window open in 10 houses. It will be interesting to see what it's like in summer.

I have horrendous bay fever so cannot have the windows open in Spring. It’s been a beautiful day where I am too and It’s certainly not been warm enough to need to all windows and doors open.

Why do you even care what other people do with their own windows and doors in their own homes???
