Imperialleathers · 06/04/2023 23:26

I have a small 2 bedroom flat and I deep clean probably about once a month, if that. It takes me about 4 hours. How big is your house and how long does a deep clean take ??

1 bed bungalow prob about 4-5 hours

mamabear715 · 08/04/2023 19:21

I do it when I see dirt or cobwebs.
Actually my eyes are shocking, my youngest has to point cobwebs out to me!

bellac11 · 08/04/2023 20:12

A spider only takes about 10 mins to do a cobweb, by the time you've put the hoover or duster away its back again

Some people, men and women, like having a really clean house. It’s just a personal preference really.

Yup.

One would hope that in 2023 women have moved from the attitude it's just their job, but yes, nothing wrong with people doing clean behind stuff. My DH was always the one moving the furniture and cleaning behind it 2x a year while I did kitchen cupboards etc. He was also always the floor person and few other tasks I hated.

Imisssleep2 · 10/04/2023 13:17

Large 3 bed house with bathroom and downstairs toilet. Life it too short to spend all my spare time cleaning, i work at least 42.5hrs a week and care for my 2.5year old full time as well. Bathroom is prob an hour to deep clean, kitchen half hour not including cupboards. Our house isnt dirty, if it needs cleaning it gets done but i dont beat myself up getting it done everyday.

Jagoda · 10/04/2023 14:43

I'm still going, and feeling very virtuous!!

I can see through the oven door!!!

Sisterweb · 10/04/2023 15:02

Why? Why are you asking?!💁
what does it matter how long it takes anyone else?

I’m sorry but I just don’t understand why you’re asking this

I don't understand the mn need to always know about other people either, how much they spend in their food shop, their electricity, their mortgage, how much they save etc

I think I must lack the "curious" gene that others have, if someone says they spend 3 hours a week more than I do on cleaning I'm sure as heck nt going to start taking longer or doing more😂

BertieBotts · 10/04/2023 15:21

Some people are curious about others and find it interesting/fun?

I don't understand why people like to ask/answer questions like "In a fight between X and Y, which would win?" or questions about ranking the top 10 crisps or whatever, so I don't click on those threads.

FelicityFlops · 10/04/2023 15:21

What, please, is a "deep clean"?

Hbh17 · 10/04/2023 15:25

What the heck is "a deep clean"? I have lived in this house 30+ years, and I'm not sure it's ever have one. The cleaners I now have/have had seem to keep it clean enough to me. I don't understand this obsession with constant cleaning - I want my house to be comfortable, not like an operating theatre.

megletthesecond · 10/04/2023 15:25

I think it's for people who have tidy houses. I'd need a couple of weeks off work before I could do a deep clean.

Oakyloaky · 07/04/2023 00:06

Have never heard about deep clean before mumsnet. Do people actually have that much time to allocate a few hours a week just to clean? I generally hoover a couple of times a week, dust occasionally, get mop out every few weeks and about once a year clean cupboards, fridge etc unless an obvious spillage! Change bedclothes every couple of weeks and teenagers when they are getting smelly.

Same here. I never have three-four hours for just cleaning.
We hoover and mop the floors couple of times a week/ when needed, but I don’t remember ever paying any particular attention to skirting boards 😅

Bertiebotts, we are all kinda weird at the end of the day I guess! We like what we like and what is interesting to some is strange to others.

But, a life spent wondering about deep cleaning …. Just why?

There are no rules on this.

I know someone who literally can’t take a job even though her kids are now way past the intensive need stage… because she simply cannot bear a dirty home. She cleans it each and every day.

I feel for her. Though nothing I can say helps.

It’s fine to have one’s own standards of cleanliness and chores.

Liberating to do what works for oneself.

She would surely work if she had no other way of paying bills, clean house or not!

Sisterweb · 10/04/2023 16:49

Cosyblanket…. Yep, just as well for her that her husband is earning a fortune then and she can clean as much as she wants to… it drives me nuts too.

So it's not can't, it's won't.

Sisterweb · 10/04/2023 17:20

Cosyblankets….. it’s likely ocd and trauma…. It’s neither black nor white

Moonshine60 · 10/04/2023 17:30

4 hours dusting and hoovering 1 week
2 hours on kitchen the next week
And continue to rotate.
OH does loo and bathroom each week.
Once a month I give myself a holiday from the chores 😅

ThuMuClu · 10/04/2023 19:31

When I lived in a small 2 bedroom flat, I could do it in a long half day. Now I live in a large 4 bed house I only do a room at a time. My office, our main lounge / diner the kitchen and the family bathroom are prioritised.

LieInsAreExtinct · 10/04/2023 21:38

Sadly have only managed to deep clean any home when moving out...by the time I had finished I would need to start again and that's not my idea of living!

Deep clean? I leave that to the professionals. Might require a full hazmat suit,

purplehair1 · 10/04/2023 22:36

Has any man ever worried about a ‘deep clean’?

Blinky21 · 10/04/2023 22:58

I did the kitchen and bathroom today, both average sized rooms, and took 4.5 hours. I usually spend about 3 hours a weekend cleaning my 3 bed house, which is on top of cleaning day to day, around full time job

StrongandNorthern · 10/04/2023 23:07

Jeez.
I think we're probably just really mucky.
