To ask how long your deep clean takes ?

Imperialleathers · 06/04/2023 23:26

I have a small 2 bedroom flat and I deep clean probably about once a month, if that. It takes me about 4 hours. How big is your house and how long does a deep clean take ??

All..bloody..day.

gingercat02 · 07/04/2023 12:23

I honestly have never deep cleaned a house unless we are selling it!

Normal cleaning is dust all surfaces, hoover, clean bathrooms and kitchen (good wipe round including inside of fridge), mop hard floors.
Takes about 1-2hrs twice a week

Not skirting boards, cupboard fronts or insides, clean oven, windows, ceiling cobwebs, wiping down doors, cleaning blinds and probably lots more that never occurs to me!

I have a cleaning company coming in a few weeks to do a deep clean. They are coming for 6 hours.and I hope they do all of the "not" list

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 07/04/2023 12:09

Seriously?!
Never in my case, just like I have never ‘Spring cleaned’ either!

I do most of what it entails at some point in time when it’s necessary but never as a planned attack 😊

I was just saying that is what my idea of a deep clean is , some posters are just describing a normal clean.
I'm not saying this is what I do , I just clean as and when I notice something needs doing.

How can you consider it a deep clean without dusting? Genuinely interested.

’Deep clean’ means to me doing everything.
EG:-

  • Dust all surfaces
  • Light fittings
  • Picture/mirror/photo/TV frames
  • Ornaments/lamps/bulbs
  • Skirting boards
  • Paintwork around doors and door handles
  • Walls/ceiling corners (if needed)
  • Hoover rugs/carpets and under furniture
  • Remove cushion seats off sofas/chairs and hoover underneath
  • Wet wash stone/wood floors
  • Polish/nourish wooden floors
  • Wipe down furniture
  • Wipe cupboards
Deep Clean means cleaning everything.

This is a normal weekly* clean to me. (And why we have cleaners.)

A deep clean to me would include:
Washing all windows
Scrubbing/bleaching all grout
Rugs shampooed
bleaching refrigerator
wiping out all cabinets
Tops of cabinets, too.
Probably lots of other things I don’t think to do.

Most of these are projects that we do or have done annually or bi-annually. The only time we did these all at once was when we moved in.

*We have pets or weekly would be overkill.

Cherryblossoms85 · 07/04/2023 13:07

I wouldn't describe that as a deep clean. Takes my cleaner about 4 hours a week but she doesn't properly scrub the wet room so I do that occasionally. Like...every six months for about half an hour.

TheHoover · 07/04/2023 13:31

Oh. Another ‘oh I’m so clean, I can’t believe how filthy other people are’ post.

A what?

These threads always make me feel like I have completely failed at adulting. I have honestly never wiped a skirting board in all of my 43 years.

Jagoda · 07/04/2023 13:53

So I just wiped all the skirting boards in my lounge for the first time ever.

They absolutely do not look any different 🤬

I never did until we had pets.

Did the cloth you used have noticeable dirt/dust?

LemonDrizzles · 07/04/2023 14:15

To do just the kitchen takes an hour or so over a few days. Take apart nespresso, clean all the bits. Fully clean out washing machine. Dishwasher self clean cycle. Clear out cupboards. Wash fridge shelves. Wipe cutlery drawer insert. Dishwashing rack, take apart and wash. Wash recycling bins.

Never knew it was a thing until I started reading MN. Have given them the occasional once over when I remember but paraphrasing Shirley Conran here, life's too short to dust a skirting board.

CaramelicedLatte · 07/04/2023 14:31

Probably a few days to do it properly with all the furniture in situ. A day or so if it was empty and we were moving out.

I've cleaned upstairs today. It took 2 hours to tidy/make beds, dust and hoover 3 bedrooms, 2 of which are DCs so covered in stuff, an office, the bathroom and the landing. I didn't do DS1s room because teenager. He can do that later. Dusting includes windowsills and skirting boards, not sure why it wouldn't?!

We had a cleaner until recently and I don't think she wiped the bathroom walls or cleaned the floor in their once. Gross. Walls round a toilet need doing daily with boys in the house!

On a day to day basis we hoover downstairs, wipe down kitchen sides, make beds etc. I clean properly once a week, but will wipe bits of dust/muck etc that I see as I see them.

CaramelicedLatte · 07/04/2023 14:32

Oh and change the bed weekly for us/teenager, two-weekly for smaller DC. I love fresh bedding!

Jagoda · 07/04/2023 14:37

@AliceOlive I used multi surface wipes. Is that wrong?

Yes they were a bit grubby but not massively.

Gosh! Maybe my house is cleaner than I think, despite the neglect!!?

SkankingWombat · 07/04/2023 14:55

Spectre8 · 07/04/2023 08:29

If you have the vacuum out and on, it takes seconds to chnage to the rush attachment and swipe along the skirting boards... never got why people make out that doing skirting boards is a hard or long thing to do

Because running the hoover over them is a quick weekly task, but 'Skirtings' as part of a deep clean involves a cloth, warm soapy water, and crawling round on your knees.

KnittedCardi · 07/04/2023 14:56

Actually physically moving stuff? Like beds and drawers? Once a year for a couple of hours. Behind the fridge gets done regularly because the cat chases mice under there and they die and decompose.

Inside the fridge and oven? Couple or three times a year.

Tops of cupboards, skirting boards, never.

Everything else gets done weekly as you go along.

Not wrong at all! It sounds like it's not necessary to do it in your house except rarely. Mine is needed due to pet hair.

VineSt · 07/04/2023 15:13

I quite like the idea of the end of tenancy clean - someone doing all the kitchen cupboards 🏆, I think I'll adopt that.

My cleaner actually does this every other week. He does all of the woodwork. His call, not mine.

KnittingNeedles · 07/04/2023 15:38

I blame that awful Mrs Hinch and her obsession with disinfectant.

I noticed the fridge has some odd marks on the inside yesterday, so cleaned it. I apply the same strategy to the rest of the house - looking a bit mucky, clean it. I cannot imagine how dull it must be to have a list of jobs, or some sort of schedule that says every third Thursday you clean a skirting board and on the first of the month you clean behind the fridge.

Seriously. There is more to life than cleaning.

That's pretty much mine. If I spot something needs cleaning then I do it

Did book a deep clean for my home and the cleaners commented how clean it was so it must work Grin

Me neither and I'm 53 and still living to tell the tale.
