To ask how long your deep clean takes ?

I have a small 2 bedroom flat and I deep clean probably about once a month, if that. It takes me about 4 hours. How big is your house and how long does a deep clean take ??

You all know annual or 2xannual deep clean was tptally normal thing well before Mrs Hinch and all the other chemical snoffers😂
My grandma used to do it! Admittedly not in UK

Furries · 08/04/2023 01:33

Yes, I think the deep clean thing has taken on a life of its own.

A Spring Clean was definitely a thing for my mum and my grandmothers. It’s nothing new, but it seems to have become a bit competitive via SM.

I do agree with previous posts, things like skirtings can become more of an issue if you have pets. I’d never clean them weekly, but every couple of months then would give them a quick wipe over - as in one room every couple of months on rotation.

ariaknox · 08/04/2023 01:43

@Jagoda
Not every day
Once every two weeks

TMess · 08/04/2023 04:25

I tidy and wipe down as I go daily but I try to spend a few hours on Friday afternoons deep cleaning - windows, moving everything and cleaning under them, inside cupboards, refrigerator, etc, so I can do nothing for the weekend and then have to do it all again on Monday. 😆

TheHoover · 08/04/2023 07:38

Ye olde annual deep clean didn’t take into account both adults in a household being in employment.

Scrubbing your front doorstep used to be a thing as well….

VestaTilley · 08/04/2023 07:56

My what? 😂

DH hoovered our 3 bed terrace yesterday, cleaned the downstairs and middle floor loos and sinks, mopped and swept the kitchen, cleaned surfaces, made beds and tidied - took an hour and a half. It looked very nice when DS and I came home.

We hardly ever dust skirting boards or clean kitchen cupboards etc. We both work and have a four year old; it’s not a priority.

Disneyblueeyes · 08/04/2023 08:08

I've never really understood why people dust/wipe skirting boards. Even with pets.

Also hoovering under or behind furniture. Why?

Chevrotains · 08/04/2023 09:06

I live in a 1 bedroom flat and there's no way I can deep clean it every month and do all of it in a single go Grin I try to do a room per session and even then, I break it down...

Fansandblankets · 08/04/2023 09:42

I do a room every now and then. So once a month or so I’ll pull out all the sofas and hoover and clean skirting boards. Or I’ll notice a kitchen cupboard is getting messy so do one cupboard. Never done a full deep clean of the whole house on one go. It would take days. I don’t work though so it’s easier to keep on top of stuff.

aramox1 · 08/04/2023 09:49

Half an hour once a year before i get bored and give up.

KnackeredGoat · 08/04/2023 11:30

I never do a one off deep clean, but I do 30 minutes a day Mon - Fri with all the big jobs on a rota.

Mon - Kitchen. Cupboard fronts, inside fridge and microwave, clean bins out and once every few weeks I do the oven instead of the rest of it.

Tue - Downstairs. Feather duster to do all ceilings and skirting boards, clean glass and dust all surfaces.

Wed - Deep Clean. I have all the rooms on a rota and do 30 minutes. Kitchen week for eg will include tops of cupboards, inside cupboards etc. Other rooms will include wiping all the blinds, cleaning windows and proper wash of woodwork. I have the car and outside on my rota too.

Thu - Bathrooms. Thorough clean including mopping floors.

Fri - Upstairs. Same as downstairs pretty much.

1 wash load every day, Tue is beds and Thu is towels.

I have a robot hoover which keeps on top of the floors, so they just need a proper hoover once a week. The kitchen is wiped down every night after dinner and dishwasher run overnight to be emptied in the morning. Quick 5 minutes before bed to plump cushions and put odd bits away.

The house is always presentable and I never have to spend hours on end cleaning. DC’s are teens though so don’t make as much mess as they once did!

I don't know, I've never done one

Mine have like a ridge so they get a layer of dust on top
Takes 2 seconds as I just run the hoover over them while I'm hoovering

Why would they not clean behind furniture? Just cause you can't see the dirt, it's still there. My gran always said not cleaning behind things/skirting etc is lazy cleaning. If your not going to do it properly there's no point bothering. I personally like to live in a clean home.

Disneyblueeyes · 08/04/2023 14:15

@memesndmoreme well yea. I suppose I've just got better things to do with my time.

Emigratingimmigrant · 07/04/2023 09:32

Nor did any if the tenants in houses I lived in😂
It would be so much better to just do copboards all the way up as a standard!

Years back I lived in a house share with a shared kitchen. One of the other women living there and I cleaned the kitchen one day. It took the two of us seven hours. When we'd finished, it was bloody clean. We actually cleared builders' rubble from the top of one cupboard. This had presumably been there since the kitchen fittings were installed, several owners previously.

I don't consider myself particularly clean, but when I deep clean, everything comes out of every cupboard, every appliance is pulled out of its hole, and every pot or pan gets washed again else you're just putting dirt back.

TuesdayJulyNever · 08/04/2023 14:49

Deep clean to me is when I go to give the bathroom a quick wipe down, and 6 hours later I’m scrubbing grout with a toothbrush and poking dust out of corners with a toothpick.

I’m so envious of people who can give a room a decent once over, and use words like “deep clean” and not get sucked into a vortex of panic about microscopic dirt, the chemical composition of their cleaning product, or just sink into a state of paralysis plotting the most efficient route to take using the minimum number of cloths with no cross contamination.

Bloody adhd.

Londongal123 · 08/04/2023 15:10

I do a full clean (around 6 hours) every week. Each week I add one deep clean thing. Once per month DH and I do an hour or two of home maintenance which is sometimes a deep clean task.

BCfan · 08/04/2023 15:12

I don't do a deep clean really.

Instead I just keep on top of everything regularly - use the robot hoover to vaccum and mop daily, do my own vaccum and mop twice a week to reset. Change bedclothes weekly. Clean all bathrooms once per week. Dust once a fortnight or so. Clean mirrors and windows probably once every 4 weeks. It probably takes 2hrs in total across a week.

Then I do skirting boards, doors, walls, light switches probably only twice a year unless I notice they are mucky.

I pay for the oven and sofa to be professionally cleaned - life's too short!

I hope as women in 2023 we have moved on from those type of attitudes

Lazy cleaning is a nonsense unless it's your paid job

gotthearse · 08/04/2023 15:27

2 days, twice a year. 3 hours a week to keep on top of main areas.

Strange how the phrase deep cleaning has caught on.

No one ever used to use it about housework, just hospitals when there was an outbreak of infection. And dentists when deep cleaning around the gum line.

Houses were "spring cleaned" once a year.

It originally referred to carpets. It is possible on a surface such as a carpet. It is impossible to 'deep' clean a hard surface. A spring clean is absolutely right, or a thorough or intense clean. The term irritates the fuck out of me and makes me refuse to do anything like it!

SendHelp999 · 08/04/2023 17:48

Once a week it takes me a day and a half to do my whole house. I change bedding and towels. Bleach bathroom. Clean windows polish all surfaces and shine mirrors pic frames etc, Hoover and mop. It only takes me that long because I've got health conditions and a young dc at home with me.

But maybe once a month I'll choose a room to deep clean and declutter. Pulling everything out. Furniture etc cleaning and hoovering inside cupboards and wardrobes.

I don't know anyone else who goes this extreme though to be fair. I just enjoy it and have too much time on my hands and my brain doesn't stop ticking

Some people, men and women, like having a really clean house. It’s just a personal preference really.
