'Queen' Camilla

Replitad · 04/04/2023 23:12

I wouldn't have called myself a republican before now but I think the 'Queen' Camilla thing has tipped me over the edge.

Pretty audacious considering their history and I think a lot of the public won't agree. I certainly won't be celebrating or even watching coronation.

Although final word Obstinateheadgirl is Camilla and I'm calling it 😂😊

I for one welcome our royal overlords ordained by Almighty God to rule over us humble subjects.

What a wonderful example they are for us all.

In the past the widows of Kings have kept their Queen title, Queen Mary and so on. When G VI died and his daughter became Queen Elizabeth II her mother took the title of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother to avoid confusion with name, Camilla would remain Queen Camilla for the rest of her life

At the risk of being pedantic they do actually change their official main title.

Atm she is HM The Queen. Known as HM Queen Camilla some of the time. In the same way she was HRH The Princess of Wales and known as Duchess of Cornwall, and just as HM King Charles’ most senior title is HM The King.

If she’s widowed she becomes HM Queen Camilla and the next Queen, assuming there is one, becomes HM The Queen.

TheMadGardener · 05/04/2023 00:33

I can't get aerated about her title. They've been married 18 years. Does it make much difference if she's Queen Consort or Queen Camilla - either way she's Queen.

Presumably William hasn't objected.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 05/04/2023 00:33

@Vanderlayinfustries for the avoidance of doubt - from the RF website itself https://www.royal.uk/queens-accession-day-message

Mooshamoo · 05/04/2023 00:33

I don't know.

I think I will be happy the day when we have a republic.

We have had a royal family for too long.

Think of the use we could put all those palaces to.

You could house so many homeless people in those palaces

Yes pointing out you’re wrong and that it’s unkind to make fun of people’s looks must only mean one thing 🙄

I don't think she is popular. No one I know likes Camilla.

Okay that is only my friends and family. And colleagues. But not one of them like Camilla.

I wonder is there any up to date popularity polls on Camilla. Where we can see how popular she is with the public

Here you go, the most up to date YouGov poll on the Royal Family popularity contest. Jan 2023.

Didn't Prince Harry write in his book that Camilla had her eye on the long game. He said That Camilla had her eye on the crown.

Harry would know wouldn't he

That would be the Harry who told us all about how he learnt of the Queen Mother's death from a phone call from a flunkey received in his study at Eton, despite the fact that he was skiing in Switzerland at the time and Eton was closed? And numerous other porkies?

jcyclops · 05/04/2023 00:36

In very simple terms, "Queen" is her title and "Queen Consort" is her "job"

There are 3 "jobs" a Queen can hold and they are all entitled to be called "Queen" - Queen Consort, Queen Regnant and Queen Dowager - and all three are styled "Her Majesty", but only Queens Regnant take a regnal number.

As someone pointed out earlier, from 06/02/1952 to 24/03/1953 we had three Queens - Mary, Elizabeth and Elizabeth II.

I don't know anybody who likes her. I imagine they would be polite to her in person and not tell her to her face. I don't think anyone will tolerate even a day of the Prince Phillip type media coverage or turn up for her funeral.

Mooshamoo · 05/04/2023 00:37

I don't want to have Queen Camilla.

I have no choice

I'm not like people who live in a more advanced, democratic country who actually vote people into power, based on their skills and abilities

No I have no vote on Queen Camilla. I don't like that

I can only find the queen Elizabeth saying she wished for Camilla to be known as queen consort. Never queen. This was only said iwhildy unwell in the months before her death after years of the wish being princess consort. Never literally said she wants her to be queen once

I’m not so sure you understand how titles work then. Queen Consort = Queen. Please take a look back in history. Let’s take a look at the most recent Queen Consort Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon who, when she became The Consort, became Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and later Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother when she became a widow and her daughter became The Queen and reigning monarch. She remained Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth adding “The Queen Mother” to differentiate from her daughter.

I never once made fun of her looks. I think you're wrong too but it seems you didn't even read what I said properly.. I was just making a fun joke because you defend her so, well, obstinately. 😊 Doesn't make you right. We're all arguing apples and oranges and we're all a bit right and wrong. I still don't think she should be queen Anyway. I really do have to sleep now!

Imagine living in a society where we actually have a say, and we can vote people into positions of power.

No , we are landed with queen Camilla.

And we have no vote. We have No say in it. It sickens me a bit. How is that possible in 2023

Other than QEII, QEI, Queen Victoria, Queen Anne, Queen Mary I and II, every other Queen of this country has been a Queen Consort. It literally just means they are queen, but if they were not the King’s wife they wouldn’t be.

Have you ever heard any other Queens being actually referred to as “Queen Consort?” “Queen Consort Elizabeth” (the Queen mother)? “Queen Consort Mary”? (George V wife) “Queen Consort Anne Boleyn”?

No.

They are all Queens Consort, but you just called them “Queen X” or “The Queen.”

We didn’t all call the previous Queen “Queen Regnant Elizabeth II” which is the equivalent of what you think should be happening.

I didn’t just mean you.

I am absolutely right when I say Queen Elizabeth II gave her blessing. I’ve provided the link to the official statement how can you possibly dispute it 🤣

intotalfreefall · 05/04/2023 00:41

I can't bring myself to care. No matter how her relationship with Charles started, they've been together for long enough for it to no longer be a big deal.

TBH, I also think Charles deserves a bit of slack, given what a pain his family have been recently...

The Queen Consort is the Queen. George Vi's wife was Queen Consort and Queen Elizabeth. George V's wife was Queen Consort and Queen Mary, Edward Vii's wife was Queen Consort and Queen Alexandra. Charles III's wife is Queen Consort and Queen Camilla.

If you really think QEII didn't know that and intend that, you are deceiving yourself.

Honestly people don’t understand how it works they just wanna whine about how they didn’t vote for it.

Again - it’s meaningless words that change nothing for anyone.

We do have the vote 😂

A constitutional monarchy isn’t voted for because they aren’t like politicians. It’s a birthright. One that has not, for a very very long time, come with any sort of rule or power.
