'Queen' Camilla

Replitad · 04/04/2023 23:12

I wouldn't have called myself a republican before now but I think the 'Queen' Camilla thing has tipped me over the edge.

Pretty audacious considering their history and I think a lot of the public won't agree. I certainly won't be celebrating or even watching coronation.

This thread has been the gift that keeps going. Tampons, STIs and Michael Jackson.

I'd like to nominate it for classics.

Don’t forget the ‘fact checking’ about the Impossible Son. I LOVE IT when irony is lost on people.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 05/04/2023 18:20

I think some people here have been cheated on and it makes them feel better to be angry about other people’s infidelity.

Wow I would t speak to my SIL or nieces and nephews if that’s the case. Pleased I’m not so black and white and judgemental

You’re extremely judgemental. And you’re the keyboard version of a loudmouth.

Perhaps you need to see yourself as others may see you.

Who have I judged exactly? People who refute cold hard facts and scream melodramatic nonsense about the opinion of noncesS

There can be multiple Dowager Queens, as it just means Queen who was wife of the King, so both Mary and Elizabeth were.

I was always told that was one of the reasons why she was called the queen mother

More than one dowager wasn't the reason; the issue was more than one Elizabeth.

That was because she and her daughter had the same name. It wasn’t anything to do with Queen Mary.

They’d have just been Queen Mary and Queen Margaret/Irene/Sarah had QEQM been called anything else.

I am asking whether the King, as head of the Church, and his Queen will have any say on the morals and on what the Church of England preaches. I find it interesting that a man and a woman who have caused so much pain to a family can head a Church. Moreover, considering that Charles was well in his thirties when he married.
Saying that Kings have always had mistresses is loaded with hypocrisy ... and I do not think he is fit to head a Church.

hahaha

Oh the Church is hardly a paragon of virtue - I think he is exactly the right kind of person to be at the top of the cesspit that is the Church of fucking England

Nigvor · 05/04/2023 21:14

He's better than the C of e as at least he isn't into kiddies.

Bit mad though that his mistress is royalty now but one of his sons is not.

I don't think he'll be around long. Doesn't look too healthy.

Do you know how the CofE came about?

If you're scandalised by KCIIIs behaviour then God help you when you research Henry VIII and his wives, specifically Anne Boleyn ...

I haven't enjoyed a thread this much in ages.

Re Queen/queen Mother, isn't it that the line of rulers goes down, not across?

So queen Mother was queen and she stayed queen but she couldn't be ruling queen because only her kids could be ruling king/queen. It's not like when your spouse dies and you inherit. For being ruling king/queen, only a child can inherit. So really there were two queen Elizabeths, but only one of them was in charge.

They just make up rules to suit themselves but I guess that's the point of being royal.

Both his sons are still very much royalty. Even though one of them of his own volition flounced off to the other side of the world

Technically there was only one Queen Elizabeth - HM Queen Elizabeth was the widow of the King.

Her daughter was HM The Queen.

since people sometimes would use Queen Elizabeth II for the sake of people not being confused in general the Queen Mother title was used.

Similar in a roundabout way to Camilla being known by the Cornwall title to avoid the Wales one, QEQM just used the QM bit to make crystal clear which of the Elizabeth’s it was.

Nigvor · 05/04/2023 21:49

LOL I wonder how those discussions went when they sorted all that out.

-"Don't tell me what to call myself. You're not the Queen!"

  • "YES I AM"

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 05/04/2023 21:50

It would be much easier if they all had one title and style and stuck to it.

ToWhitToWhoo · 05/04/2023 21:50

If you're anti-monarchy, up to you; but this isn't a good reason. The wife of a King is always called Queen (Consort),

Nigvor · 05/04/2023 21:51

They're actual kings and queens though so it's up to them.

I think what really annoys me about Charles and Camillas affair is this.

It's not like Charles married Diana and loved her and was kind to her, and then saw Camilla a couple of times on the side.

Charles married Diana and then acted like she didn't exist. He carried on his full relationship with Camilla, and he treated Diana like dirt.

Diana was a teenager. Charles and Camilla were in their thirties at the time.

I just think it was so heartless and cruel. Diana was brought in as the teen virgin bride to provide heirs. And she then was discarded by him like dirt. And he carried on with the woman that he loved.

I think it is so cruel to do it to a very young woman.

Charles was a lot older than her. He ruined a lot of Diana's life.

And that comment he made "whatever love means": humiliating her in front of the whole world. Couldn't he at least have done what other people do and at least pretend to be interested?

Maybe not, but he's been heavily into supporting some who are ...

Nigvor · 05/04/2023 22:22

True, true ... including little brother

I think he's a fucking mess tbf but then the c of E is a fucking mess also. Would be more than happy to bin the lot of them

Lol! Same here actually! Charles isn’t being compared to Henry VIII, though, or any of his other scandalous ancestors, but to his mother, QEII, who never had a whiff of scandal attach to her personally. The same was true of his grandfather, George VI, actually.

We’re not used to adulterous monarchs now. Charles’s behaviour wouldn’t have felt so shocking to previous generations.

I’m not bothered about Camilla being Queen, as that’s what she is according to our Constitution. I’m becoming more Republican in my beliefs as I get older, though, I think there should be a proper debate about it at the very least.

The same son who fought for his country in two wars.
The power of the media is so underestimated. This same media who hacked a dead child's phone confusing her loved ones. This same media known for their lies and deceit.
