'Queen' Camilla

Replitad · 04/04/2023 23:12

I wouldn't have called myself a republican before now but I think the 'Queen' Camilla thing has tipped me over the edge.

Pretty audacious considering their history and I think a lot of the public won't agree. I certainly won't be celebrating or even watching coronation.

Which wars? Which son?

Possiblynotever · 06/04/2023 07:25

Doesn't anyone see the irony of this?
We are talking of two adults of over thirty who bullied a girl of barely twenty years old.
It is not that they met while they were married and found in each other their soul mate, which would be forgivable.
They are horrible bullies. They never ever said they were sorry about what they did.
It is not acceptable.
And he should not head a Church.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 06/04/2023 08:12

Ow do you know they never apologised? They don’t owe YOU an apology. Did you expect Diana to apologise for HER many affairs?

This is deranged . You don’t know these people, you have no idea what went on behind closed doors. It’s nearly 4 decades ago , people make mistakes, by all accounts Charles and Diana were getting on quite well at the time of her death. . Diana was young yes but she was not a saint , she was implicated herself for the break up of at least 2 marriages herself . The dreadful Dodie was actually engaged to someone else at the time of their death. Life is complicated. Let people move on .

LauraIAm · 06/04/2023 08:37

I’m no monarchist but I think she should be Queen Camilla - Charles shagged around too and no one is suggesting he shouldn’t be called King. It’s misogyny to suggest Camilla alone should pay for their joint adultery. Also no one says any second wife in an adultery situation shouldn’t be called Mrs or Duchess or whatever. Why pick on just Camilla???

Apparently because she isn’t pretty and doesn’t make men turn their heads.

MaggieFS · 06/04/2023 09:08

I don't really care, if I had to have an opinion ... as the wife of the King, she can be the queen.

Some people on here are really spouting a lot crap about past conversations as if they are factually correct, when we don't know, (or they've been watching too much of The Crown).,

And as for people saying we've been LIED to. The horror. Can you imagine? 18 years on and things aren't allowed to evolve?

Also kudos to the person who said the green man was a lettuce with a face. I can't unsee that now Smile, although I'm not sure I'd fancy a salad made with oak leaves.

Possiblynotever · 06/04/2023 10:08

@cyclacyclamenqueen it is easy to derange a 19 year old virgin when you are over 30 and bully her senseless, don't you think?
Moving on means accepting.
In the way we accept that the fortunes of the Royal Family are based on slavery and discrimination, in the way we accept that they accumulate fortunes free of taxes ( check the Guardian report: it is just starting), in the same hypocritical way they should set an example and in reality are just an entitled lot who do not do much for their living.

Hardly a necessary reminder - this thread is full of people going on about Diana.

I do feel that Charles should be allowed to leave an unhappy marriage and be with the woman he loves.

However I think there was a lot of unnecessary cruelty and heartlessness dealt to Diana.

Charles married Diana as she was "young, suitable , a virgin , and could provide heirs".

He knew he already lived someone else.

There was no consideration or thought given to Diana's feelings.

Charles was trapped in a way in the riptide of events (of having to marry someone suitable).

But he definitely did not give much thought to Diana's feelings or how he would ruin Dianas life.

He really did ruin a huge part of Dianas life.

If Charles had thought it through and left Diana alone, Diana would have gone into a loving marriage with someone else in her twenties.

Charles did it first.

If I was in a marriage and my husband was off shagging another woman, I might to start to seek out company of other men aswell.

Mooshamoo · 06/04/2023 12:28

I wonder does Camilla read Mumsnet.

I would.

And your evidence for that assertion is where???

So by your logic, Charles should have had six affairs?

He had several, including married women, before he married.

Edinvillian · 06/04/2023 14:00

Have to admit I was a bit irked at the card my grandparents received for their 71st anniversary. It had a picture of both Charles and Camilla and was signed by both. The last three cards they got (60th, 65th and 70th anniversaries) just had a photo of the queen and signed by her alone, not Phillip (he had died before their 70th).
Normally I don't have any opinions of Camilla but did think that this wasn't really her place.

I would imagine that whenever there is a King and Queen they are signed by both. It’s just there hasn’t been a King and Queen since George VI.

That's what Camilla did isn't it?

Maybe he did. But that was long ago. Didn’t they co-parent quite well? Or am I misremembering. I was really young when it all happened so I can’t quite remember.

Mooshamoo · 06/04/2023 19:57

I'm gonna go along and protest. My poster will say "down with Camilla"
