'Queen' Camilla

Replitad · 04/04/2023 23:12

I wouldn't have called myself a republican before now but I think the 'Queen' Camilla thing has tipped me over the edge.

Pretty audacious considering their history and I think a lot of the public won't agree. I certainly won't be celebrating or even watching coronation.

Agree with this.

They said when they got married she wouldn't be queen.

But to hell with what you promised the country ey? After the conservatives I suppose they know we will just roll over and take it.

Yet again, they didn't promise. They stated their intention. Intentions change as circumstances change over 18 years. I'm prepared to bet you've changed your mind about plenty of plans over that period.

Overthehillsandfaraways · 05/04/2023 08:37

Changing with the times = following the rules of the past.. Got it. The mental gymnastics is astounding!

Possiblynotever · 05/04/2023 08:36

I wonder how she can be Queen and married to a King, head of a church, after all the drama happened with,Diana. I truly do not understand. Any practising Anglican here?

You do know how the Church of England came into being, don't you? Little matter of the King wanting a divorce so he could marry his mistress?

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 05/04/2023 08:38

Rosula · 05/04/2023 08:28

Affront to decency? The woman who has been married to the King for 18 years becoming Queen?

It's not as if there aren't precedents for divorcés remarrying and staying on the throne within the Royal Family.

Exactly. I’m not sure if the rules now but certainly at the time anyone could marry in a CofE church of their former spouse passed away, even if they’d divorced.

At any rate they had a registry office wedding.

So funny that everyone is over a random affair except a few mouth frothers who didn’t know these people.

sashagabadon · 05/04/2023 08:38

She’s the Kings wife so she is Queen.

caringcarer · 05/04/2023 08:40

GrandTheftWalrus · 04/04/2023 23:37

I more meant that will she be mentioned as the queen consort then it'll dropped when William is crowned like they've done with Charles and camilla.

Catherine spells her name with a C not a K. She will be Queen Catherine.

Abraxan · 05/04/2023 08:41

Vanderlayinfustries · 04/04/2023 23:27

When they married they promised she would never be queen

Tradition was broken when the marriage was allowed! So it shouldn't be followed for naming protocol.

I'm with the op

But they didn't.

The press made up some rubbish about it all but there was no official royal notice which stated this iirr.

Every other queen consort has been known as Queen (name) so this is no different.

The only reason it as 'Prince' Philip is because, in England, the title King ranks higher than Queen.

Dotjones · 05/04/2023 08:43

The King's wife becomes Queen Consort. Just as George VI's wife became known as HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother after his death, her position is queen with a caveat. A Queen Consort is a Queen, just one who gains the title through marriage rather than inheriting it like the previous monarch.

I don't recall people kicking off about Prince Philip being called Prince instead of Prince consort - I don't remember even hearing that term until he died.

Rosula · 05/04/2023 08:43

X6hfyib4ms · 05/04/2023 07:31

She's not my Queen and never will be.

I could accept Queen Consort but not this. It's the second marriage as a result of an affair. It makes a mockery of the institution of the monarchy, and certainly Charles being head of the C of E.

The public have been played for fools ('oh they'll complain at first but they'll accept it eventually').

Hoping for a short reign and W&C to take over as soon as possible.

No, it's a second marriage as a result of the fact that Charles had no wife, living or dead. Something that has been allowed in this country for centuries. As for the institution of monarchy and the C of E, you are forgetting why and how we have a C of E.

"The public" aren't complaining in practice, it's just a few Dianolaters.

She’s Queen because she’s married to a King and doesn’t outrank him.

Or are you asking how they could be married in the first place?

I didn’t hate the design until I saw the lettuce with a face at the bottom. Wtf!?!

It's a 'green man'- an ancient and worldwide symbol of re-birth, renewal ans (more recently) ecological awareness. Often seen in church architecture. Probably originally pagan but has been incorporated into religious and other iconography- seen all over the world.

Seems very appropriate to me for the occasion and for Charles.

No, the plan change with the times. The titles are set in stone and it would be odd to start having rules like ‘You cannot be titled Queen if you are considered unattractive and thick people on MN don’t get it’.

Im sure there’s constitutional rules around titles anyway which is why Dumb and Dumber in Montecito made such a song and dance about their kids being styled in titles from a monarchy they claim to hate.

Mamamia7962 · 05/04/2023 08:47

I think Camilla has earned the title of Queen. Charles should have been allowed to marry her in the first place, you can see how happy they are together.

Rosula · 05/04/2023 08:38

So basically, it's a church that preaches that you can do whatever you want? Interesting

Beantag · 05/04/2023 08:49

Good for her, I'm not sure what material difference it really makes- whatever her title she will be afforded the same privilege and duties. If we have learnt anything from H&M it's that the protocol for royal titles should be followed whether people feel the person deserves it or not. I don't mind camilla to be honest, but then I wasn't a fan of Diana so don't feel some weird animosity to someone I've never met.

"thick people"

Your level of debate is to constantly smugly shout at people and stick to your own dogmatic viewpoint

So clever

Vanderlayinfustries · 05/04/2023 02:08

OP seemed to ask should she be queen not could she. So is it right she is queen not is it within the rules she is queen.

It is interesting how many so aggressively answered the question in the wrong way.

Not having a go. It genuinely is interesting.

In this country so many always cite what you could get away with rather than what you should get away with.

Well it's allowed so ...

Just an observation generally not on this topic

Clearly she should, because the rule is that the wife of the King is Queen. If you accept the concept of monarchy, there is literally nothing else to debate on it.

He was allowed to hit she didn't want to. She wanted to marry someone else and did so

It teaches you can re-Marry if you have no former living spouse.

Is this it? It looks like a Year 6 child created it in Canva. Hideous.

TBH I’m surprised they’ve changed Gladys’s title but then it’s all about pomp and nonsense. Just one bollocks title exchange for another really.

There's a date but no start time. That's giving me anxiety, and on that basis I will turn down my invite.

🤣

Not at all.

Bit when people come and and talk total rubbish about immutable facts, it’s frustrating. When they peddle National Enquirer gossip about children who clearly DON’T belong to people who couldn’t have possibly bore them, it’s annoying. People claiming to not care about something they’re so obviously froth-mouthed about is annoying, and yes it makes them look thick.

Itsbytheby · 05/04/2023 08:54

Camilla should be as entitled to use queen as any other wife of a King. Hwo their relationship started was by the by - it was immoral perhaps but we live in a modern society where women aren't branded harlots or made to parade around with scarlette letters because they've had sex outside marriage or been divorced.

There's probably staggered start times for different people, although this is the ceremonial invite there'll be a tonne of boring logistic documents I'm sure- anxiety subdued.

You could post on MN and say “I’ve been invited to an event but there’s no start time. What should I do?”.

Then I’m good old MN style, ignore the 450 replies of ‘just ask’ 😂

Was the queen mother not known as Queen Elizabeth when her husband was king?

Yes, of course she was. Just like every other queen consort in history. I don't know why people thought Camilla would be any different.

I would personally abolish the RF, but since they currently exist, she is Queen Camilla. That's just how it works.
