'Queen' Camilla

I wouldn't have called myself a republican before now but I think the 'Queen' Camilla thing has tipped me over the edge.

Pretty audacious considering their history and I think a lot of the public won't agree. I certainly won't be celebrating or even watching coronation.

Couple get married, sadly marriage comes to an end, man remarries ow - it’s hardly an unheard of scenario. Considering the support for Boris despite his multiple affairs I don’t think the public are that appalled.

I wouldn’t condone a marriage between affair partners. I’d just find a way to work myself around having to have anything to do with them and as a royalist I don’t have much, if any, interest in the Coronation at all.

Irony doesn't always come across very well online...

oh bore off.

>>>>>Royal Family Topic for the hater loons to be found under the heading "Royal Family". You'll be welcomed by the resident obsessives.

It's actually fairly worrying from a psych point of view that a MNer thinks their opinion is so important that despite declaring they have no interest in the topic, won't be watching coverage of an event involving the topic etc has to start a post to tell people that. (it's fun that they reveal their own ignorance at the same time though)

For the record, I have no interest in football, think it should be banned and won't be watching the next England match. I believe each team has 13 players. Wink

Vegetus · 05/04/2023 06:18

Who gives a shit either way.

SherbetDips · 05/04/2023 06:49

She is worthy of the title, the past is in the past.

I like her a lot I think she’s well worthy. She’s my queen anyway and if you don’t like it then well that’s fine.

Send me your address. I will happily pack your bags for your move to any of the great countries who have presidents or dictators.
You're welcome to the Trumps, Putins, Bolsonaro's, etc

I really don't get why people can't get over an affair that had nothing to do with them after 20+ years. Diana had her fair share to but she is turned into some sort of Saint who was perfect and pure. The reality is it was a marriage match that should never have been. She was a traumatised young adult who was suffering silently in her mental health and he was being pushed into marrying and denied the woman he wanted to marry. it was a recipe for disaster but people need to get over it.

In a democracy people are allowed to question the Hallowed Titles. Just because you're a suck up doesn't mean the rest of us have to be

I'm not arguing about the right to a title or the concept of a monarchy at all. I'm not bothered either way as to whether we keep the lot of them or do away with them. I'm just pointing out that those who are surprised by the Queen being called Queen Camilla or claiming it is a change from the old Queen's statement of a year ago are just factually wrong.

lljkk · 05/04/2023 07:18

The campaign to get the public to accept and like (Camilla) worked. Apparently the media campaign fed positive stories about her to the press. So we would begin to accept he and like her

We are all so manipulated.

So stop being manipulated, especially by the Royal obsessives & anti-Royalists & St. Diana-ists, stop being emotional about who is monarch. Work thru legal and establishments channels to design & promote an effective & different constitutional arrangement or find an acceptable way of morally vetting who is allowed to be Monarch. In meantime, if we have to have a monarchy where someone gets the job simply by birth or marriage, then Camilla isn't a bad candidate Queen at all.

The warmth between KC & is Camilla is genuine. Camilla is obviously charming in person & I suspect is a very good listener. Those qualities I think are what ultimately endeared her to public.

X6hfyib4ms · 05/04/2023 07:31

She's not my Queen and never will be.

I could accept Queen Consort but not this. It's the second marriage as a result of an affair. It makes a mockery of the institution of the monarchy, and certainly Charles being head of the C of E.

The public have been played for fools ('oh they'll complain at first but they'll accept it eventually').

Hoping for a short reign and W&C to take over as soon as possible.

londonrach · 05/04/2023 07:31

Mn is a strange world. In real life no one cares, we don't know these people. The idea seems out of date.

snitzelvoncrumb · 05/04/2023 07:38

They are just adults playing fancy dress. There is no such thing as a king or queen, just weirdos with money.

DappledThings · 05/04/2023 07:40

If you can accept Queen Consort you can accept Queen Camilla because it's literally the same thing. How are people still not getting this. You mistakenly thinking Queen Consort is some kind of lesser title does not make it so.

Ihatebloodycocomelon · 05/04/2023 07:41

Argh picked the wrong option on the vote. YABU. She is the wife of the King. She's therefore the Queen. Public opinion has nothing to do with it. Monarchy has never been about popularity.

How long before William has an affair 🤔!

BlueThursday · 05/04/2023 07:43

Not quite on topic but should Charles pass before her would she then be known as dowager queen? As obviously she’s not the mother of the new monarch

Johnson moved the OW into 10 Downing Street and brought her to state events while still married. Now that I did think was a bit previous, but I seem to have been alone, nobody else was saying "maybe wait for the divorce to go through?".

I’m Team Queen. Shit happens. Life happens. Let people be happy with their partners for goodness sake. This was not a one way street.
Also, it doesn’t affect my life in any way. How does it affect yours op?

Amen.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 05/04/2023 07:55

Brian May has been used the name for years, and no-one batted an eyelid.

(Except the badgers, but then they do have a third eye-lid.)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/04/2023 07:59

They should have just let him marry her in the beginning and all this could have been avoided

Could it though? What's to say, given his massive entitlement, that Charles wouldn't have just had another mistress?

Chooksnroses · 05/04/2023 08:00

More snarky comments.....it gets a bit wearing. you won't be the only one who will avoid watching, but what a shame to miss this moment in history because you don't approve of somebody else's life choices. Do you boycott other people's life events because their story started with an affair?

Lunde · 05/04/2023 08:02

Vanderlayinfustries · 04/04/2023 23:57

Adding to the above the Queen EIi agreed to the marriage on the grounds of this promise

I though they agreed to the marriage because Charles threatened to take his case to the European Court of Human Rights claiming his right to a family life was being restricted.

Blort · 05/04/2023 08:03

Vanderlayinfustries · 04/04/2023 23:27

When they married they promised she would never be queen

Tradition was broken when the marriage was allowed! So it shouldn't be followed for naming protocol.

I'm with the op

Agree with this.

They said when they got married she wouldn't be queen.

But to hell with what you promised the country ey? After the conservatives I suppose they know we will just roll over and take it.

Crumpetdisappointment · 05/04/2023 08:07

yabu but no one is forcing you to watch the coronation

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/04/2023 08:09

I like Camilla so I can’t say it bothers me, but TBH whenever anyone says ‘the Queen’, I can’t help thinking Elizabeth. I’m fairly ancient and she was Queen ever since I can remember, which is a long time!
