DS16 and his almost 16 yo GF. Asked if he could sit in his bedroom.

Please tell me your experiences.

DS16 has been seeing his lovely GF who is almost 16, for over 3 months. They get on great.

They have mostly been hanging out at his GF house, which is much bigger than ours. There is an extra room downstairs where they can chill out and watch the tv.

DS has asked if his GF can come to ours. The only issue is, downstairs there is just a small living room and kitchen. He’s asked if they can sit in his bedroom. He’s already eye rolled and said no, they’re not going to have sex! (We have talked about this). It’s just somewhere they can chill out.

I feel bloody awful that our house is so small that he has no space to bring GF here to sit and chill out by themselves.

I do have GFs, DM number but I have no idea how to even ask if this would be ok with her.

I obviously told DS no for now.

Please tell me how you navigated this kind of situation.

If you’re concerned pop in a couple of times (knock first of course) to ask if they want a drink etc. but don’t harass them, it’s just so they know you’re in the house and not far away enough for them to get carried away.

HaveTheDayOff · 14/03/2023 19:16

He does have a place he can hang out with her and chill. It’s called his bedroom. She’s hardly going to want pounded while your in a small
house with them and can presumably hear everything.

RedHaired50 · 14/03/2023 19:16

@TartanAndTweed and I know that it will happen, regardless but can you imagine if I allowed them to go to DS bedroom and the GF, DParents weren’t happy! Therefore, I can’t just say yes!

That’s why I suggested you contact the other parents and collectively agree what you’re all comfortable with, that way it will give you leave of mind.

@HaveTheDayOff that’s a disgusting way to talk about a teenage girl of 15 years old, sort yourself out.

@premicrois GF is 15! Almost 16!

I don't think my parents ever asked where my b/f and I sat at his house.😊

Absolutely not allowed in bedroom at mine. We sat in the kitchen... 😞

My teenage mum’s boyfriend used to go and watch telly in her room for a few hours so we could sit in the lounge. We’d have sex as quick as we could straight away then he’d take her a cup of tea. Later she’d come down and sit in the sex spot while we all watched The Word.
I’m not suggesting for a minute your son is an absolute cretin like I was but if they want to do it they’ll find a way 😁

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sorry. I thought she was 16. I’ll have MN delete.

@Burnamer what @whatwasIgoingtosay said.

But they could find anywhere to do that if thats what they wanted (& do it legally when she turns 16) just leave the door open if you are that bothered

RedHaired50 · 14/03/2023 19:26

@HaveTheDayOff but you think if she was 16 it would still be ok to post this?

onlythesparrow · 14/03/2023 19:26

I think I'd agree as long as the door is kept open, I'd also make sure to be 'around', pop in to offer a drink, potter upstairs for a bit.

I agree. I think it good that op wants to maintain some boundaries - I think too many just throw up their hands and say ‘well they’ll do it anyway’ and let them do what they want.

It is also good to respect the wishes of the gf’s parents to keep them out of the bedroom. When the weather gets warmer they can have a cosy space outside with maybe a fire pit or something but until then I’m sure the gf’s family won’t mind if you haven’t got the space.

Agree.

Well going against the grain, I think it’s really responsible of you. I wouldn’t want my not quite turned 16 year old daughter in her boyfriend’s room, it’s pretty obvious what’s going to happen, maybe when she turns 16…how long will that be?

Exactly I'm with you too. Imagine if the GF got pregnant the responses would be totally different and blaming OP as it's her house.

This kind of topic on MN is a funny one.

Nanny0gg · 14/03/2023 19:31

Do today's teens really have full sex in one of their bedrooms knowing that the parents and possibly siblings are downstairs and could come up at any minute?

HaveTheDayOff · 14/03/2023 19:32

Sorry for upsetting you. I’ve had a bad day and took it out on you on this post. I’ll leave the thread now and I hope you get some sensible advice from other posters. X

I always find it bizarre when people think teenagers will only have sex in bedrooms....

Also "the sex spot" 😭😂

DuvetDownn · 14/03/2023 19:35

Whenever I went into my boyfriend’s bedroom at that age it was to have sex.

Agree. Call me old-fashioned but mid-teens don't need to be alone together in a bedroom.

That's just one of the inconveniences of being a minor, sorry. I salute you for being responsible, OP.

RedHaired50 · 14/03/2023 19:37

Oo! Let me think about that for a moment. Don't you remember being 16?

Anyone who remembers being 16 should remember you can do anything you’d do in a bedroom in a downstairs room too…

Thoughtful2355 · 14/03/2023 19:41
