To hate that my husband does this

My husband has a mad food habit (imo) that drives me crazy, but he thinks is absolutely fine. Basically whatever he eats he mashes all together with a fork until it's just a pile of mush. He insists that it's no different to eating the foods individually but to me it's just mad. Like I'll cook a whole roast with lovely crispy roast potatoes and he'll mash them to smithereens with everything else and it honestly makes my heart hurt. He thinks it's none of my business how he eats, maybe he's right. What do you think?

How revolting. And I bet he holds his fork in his right hand too while he's pulverising his dinner. Talk about the "ick".

Ok I accept the charge of being overly dramatic. It defo is more like 'what's the point in me cooking when it's going to be instantly destroyed?'

It’s kind of destroyed when he chews it up and swallows it.

Radiatorvalves · 12/03/2023 22:43

My sympathy OP. I’d hate it. We had someone staying with us who did it and I found it gross. I would cook dinner (I’m a pretty good cook) and put food nicely on plates. Meat and 2 veg. Or homemade curry, rice, dal, okra. And it would be mixed to mush. Eeew.

Hevviie · 12/03/2023 22:44

@Blossomtoes is it you?!

Can I be a fly on the wall when you throw the dinner he has cooked against the wall and lick it off 😆.

Geppili · 12/03/2023 22:45

Get him to cook.

Blossomtoes · 12/03/2023 22:46

Hevviie · 12/03/2023 22:44

@Blossomtoes is it you?!

Nope. Definitely not me. You can’t fault my logic though!

Dartmoorcheffy · 12/03/2023 22:46

I'm guilty of doing this with a roast dinner. No idea why, I've always done it since I was a kid. One of my absolute favourite dinners is shepherd's pie and I always mush that up with the veg too. I just enjoy it like that.

MaidOfSteel · 12/03/2023 22:47

If that's his worst habit, you don't have much to worry about.
It all tastes the same no matter how it is eaten, surely.

AussieMozzieMagnet · 12/03/2023 22:48

I used to do this as a child until I realised that it wasn't the "done thing" so I stopped - even though I would still do it if I could get away with it ;-)

I'd blend his dinner and present it in a plastic bowl with a toddler spoon or in a beaker with a straw.

If he protests just say, 'well you were gonna do it anyway, now I don't have to watch you do it'.

Then never cook for him shag him again. Sounds absolutely revolting.

Absolutely do this!

LexMitior · 12/03/2023 22:49

One ace move is to just put it all in a blender and give him a spoon. At least you'd be spared the mushing action

Annoyingwurringnoise · 12/03/2023 22:49

I think you’re right, it’s gross, but it’s also none of your business. The fact that it makes your heart hurt is just ridiculous though. Yes, your roast looks pretty when you plate it up, but it all gets chewed into a mush, and it all ends up as shit in the end, so as long as it gets in joyed on the way in who cares?

GoodbyeErinsborough · 12/03/2023 22:50

I think I might be your husband... definitely not, I'm female
This is what I do! Usually eat it with a spoon too Blush
Certain foods I won't though, spaghetti bolognese for example, but it's still in a bowl. My dp started off hating it but she has started to come over to the dark side.
Don't try to fight it, let it happen Grin

maddy68 · 12/03/2023 22:50

I can't cope with bad food manners. It's a massive desk breaker for me

Pallisers · 12/03/2023 22:54

I'd blend his dinner and present it in a plastic bowl with a toddler spoon or in a beaker with a straw.

please do this.

I couldn't sit every meal and watch someone mash all his/her food together. gross.

Soproudoflionesses · 12/03/2023 22:54

I would hate that

MyDogStoodOnABee · 12/03/2023 22:54

Blend it, then if it continues LTB

BaroldFromEastenders · 12/03/2023 22:55

I like to chop my roast bits up and pile it all into a Yorkshire pudding and leave it till last - I don’t pulverise everything into mush but it does get nicely mixed up. I don’t do it in a restaurant because other people might see and would think it’s weird. I do it at home in front of my DH because he doesn’t judge me and my ways. Even if he cooked it.

leave him be to eat his food how he likes.

DappledThings · 12/03/2023 22:55

That sounds gross. I can't imagine seeing an adult do that. I'd be revolted.

JungleBoobies · 12/03/2023 22:57

Dear Lord, what a boner killer 🤢

MrsMSM · 12/03/2023 22:57

In my family this is called "a dogs dinner"

Mashing and mixing everything together
And some people do it (not me...)
However they want to eat its fine but wouldn't catch me doing it!

ilovesushi · 12/03/2023 22:57

I would that really gross and irritating and a little bit offensive that he has to do that before eating.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/03/2023 22:57

Hevviie · 12/03/2023 22:23

Ok I'll start looking into divorce proceedings tomorrow. Thanks all x

You might joke at that, but give it five years and you'll be fighting the urge to vomit at every meal.

Johnisafckface · 12/03/2023 22:59

That would annoy the fuck outta me but he can do whatever he likes with his food.

however altho I don’t mash my food together I do tend to mix my sides up together, esp if it’s a starch and a veggie.
