No agenda I’m just interested as Kier is on LBC this morning…

For me it’s the TWAW magical thinking, and not being convinced they would prioritise average earners, which I want to happen.

Rule 3 says IF YOUR WORK etc

Does being a football presenter mean he has to be impartial on all subjects? this would be key.

As this isn't the first time he has tweeted against the Govt and it wont be the last, i suspect his personal contract doesn't stipulate this.

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2023 09:32

I doubt you’re right tbh I’ve heard enough on radio from spokespeople saying it does apply to him and the BBC will decide.

It seems to be thought they won’t do much though.

Blossomtoes · 10/03/2023 09:43

The BBC can’t do anything. For one thing it needs him more than he needs it. And if they take any action against him they’ll have to do something about Sharp too. They’re painted into a tiny corner.

nicslackey · 10/03/2023 09:43

There is no Labour candidate in NI or I would vote Labour in a heartbeat. I am sick of the lying, dishonest, self serving c**ts currently in power. They have had their chance and they have fucked us over and feathered their own nests whilst laughing at everyone else. If you have not suffered under the Tories, it is incidental because they do nothing to help anyone unless it helps them. Go Kier

GPTec1 · 10/03/2023 09:46

Equally, there are many other commentators who say Linekers personal contract is written in such a way, that these rules do not apply to him.

Really struggling to see how his day job in anyway precludes him from tweeting his political opinions in his free time, unless one doesn't believe in free speech?

Either way, lets move on, he will carry on tweeting regardless of who he ends up working for.

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2023 09:50

It's interesting how there is no challenge to comments on the conservative thread, but if I felt strongly that they were my party of choice I would be all over it.

It is interesting. I think we’re more vote for who you like than Labour voters. If others want to be on that thread great, it’s the last place I’d go. Not only because it’s nice to be away from it on this one but I’m not particularly interested in their views.

Whereas Labour voters seem interested in ours and refuting them.

IClaudine · 10/03/2023 09:55

Alan Sugar's BBC contract didn't stop him tweeting racist shite or comparing Corbyn to Hitler. So why should Linekar not be free to tweet his personal views?

To ask what stops you voting for Labour?
Blossomtoes · 10/03/2023 09:59

It seems very odd to me that anyone who’s so obviously interested in politics isn’t interested in what other people think. Personally I like challenge, it’s very insular in an echo chamber.

He doesn't work for the BBC and the enemies of free speech have tried this before, and failed. There's also total silence when the issue of the failed Tory candidate as DG is mentioned or the former PMs director of communications on the board, or the party donor who is chairman. Ooh, and director of news, John McAndrew who was GB news' 'anti-woke' lead. Not much noise about Andrew Neil, Tim Montgomery, Clarkson, Hitchens or Davison either. But interview a holocaust survivor and convey their chilling fears about the direction of policy and you deserve the sack.

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2023 10:02

Apart from being overrun by Labour posters there has been very good insight on this thread. I’m heartened by level of point making from many.

The rest of mn is better for that echo chamber - hence zero posts from opposing views on other thread. People avoid it like the plague for a reason.

Blossomtoes · 10/03/2023 09:16

If it states impartially for people that work there then he’s included.

Agreed. Surely that should also apply to the chairman?

And Fiona Bruce. Question Time is so one-sided now it's a joke.

beguilingeyes · 10/03/2023 10:24

bluefrog11 · 10/03/2023 09:18

Their assumption that everyone who’s worked their ass off as a self employed person for 15 years and done alright for themselves is automatically “rich” and must be punished for it via high taxes.

The Tories say they're the party of low taxation and people believe them and yet the tax burden is higher than it's been for 70 years. They're gaslighting us.
Freezing the threshold for higher rate tax drags ever more people into that band.
In 1990 only 1.7 million people paid higher rate tax, now it's over 6 million.
It's increasing taxes by stealth.

So you're not happy with Sinn Fein ?

Interesting...

Alan Sugar's BBC contract didn't stop him ... comparing Corbyn to Hitler. So why should Lineker not be free to tweet his personal views?

March 2018
Alan Sugar has deleted a tweet depicting Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn in a car alongside Adolf Hitler, following calls for him to "disown" it.

Shadow chancellor John McDonnell had appealed to the businessman to delete it and "bring people together".

John Mann, chairman of the all-party group against anti-Semitism, said the use of Nazi comparators was "demeaning, unwarranted and dangerous".

Shadow cabinet minister Jon Trickett called the post "grossly misjudged and deeply offensive".

It's his "day job" which gives him the position of power and influence.

I am not convinced they will not screw over middle income with no kids in order to give more to people on benefits and families.
I know we are the ignored middle with conservative but we are likely to be the cash cow middle for labour.

^ This! Also their TWAW and open borders approach.

Clavinova · 10/03/2023 11:15

John Mann 2018 - (Alan Sugar)
John Mann, chairman of the all-party group against anti-Semitism, said the use of Nazi comparators was "demeaning, unwarranted and dangerous".

John Mann 2023 -
The use of Nazi comparators, by Lineker or those attacking Lineker add zero to political argument. Everybody please stop this and stick to debating the actual issues at stake.

Blossomtoes · 10/03/2023 12:11

Very interesting Clav, can you copy and paste anything showing that the BBC took issue with Lord Sugar on partiality grounds?

So that precludes him from tweeting the views of a Holocaust survivor?

What a strange world we live in.

Same with John Mann, McDonnell et al they can all air their views but everyone else's (opposing views) are dangerous and offensive inc said Holocaust survivor, who i assume lived through the 20s/30s or at least their parents did and the gradual shut down of Germany's political debate.

I expect they were pleased he had deleted his tweet - my link up thread was BBC News.

An alternative POV from another survivor, they don't all think as one.

These people have lived through so much, we should welcome their views with open minds, not seek to shut down their opinions.

Ms Salter, who has been recognised with an MBE for her work on Holocaust education, likened Ms Braverman's rhetoric on migrants attempting to cross the English Channel to that used by the Nazis during the Second World War

In footage of the exchange, provided by the charity Freedom From Torture, Ms Salter said: "I am a child survivor of the Holocaust

"In 1943, I was forced to flee my birthplace in Belgium and went across war-torn Europe and dangerous seas until I finally was able to come to the UK in 1947

"When I hear you using words against refugees like 'swarms' and an 'invasion', I am reminded of the language used to dehumanise and justify the murder of my family and millions of others"

"Why do you find the need to use that kind of language?"

Indeed... one can be against x channel economic migration without using such language.
