Peanut butter and other things we get wrong

AngelicInnocent · 05/03/2023 12:06

OK so I really like things like reeses with peanut butter in but when I have bought peanut butter and put it on bread, it's the most claggy, odd sensation and I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but what?

I'm a grown ass adult so should be capable of making a sandwich. Please enlighten me.

Also feel free to add things you need enlightenment on.

peanut butter with cheese is good.

lljkk · 05/03/2023 17:20

American here. Putting cow butter on the bread before the PB sounds barftastic. Brits & their ruddy obsession with butter all sandwich bread, especially awful way to ruin sandwiches with mayonaise. Jam & banana are fine, though.

Lightly toast your bread. Spread PB on it. Stick the PB-on-toast under grill long enough to heat / slightly melt the PB. omg, this tastes SO Good!

Toasted crumpets.
Any one said toasted crumpets yet? (It’s a long thread)
Yup, toasted crumpets. No butter, just slather on the smooth peanut butter.
vegan. Delish.

Yep. Perfect.

White bread, peanut butter, cubes of cheese, cucumber and coleslaw to accompany. Food of the gods.

Oh how I miss white bread and cheese!!!

IHeartGeneHunt · 05/03/2023 17:29

Peanut butter and banana, or peanut butter and tomato, are some of my favourite sandwiches.

mumda · 05/03/2023 17:56

With jam and a thinly sliced banana. Sandwich or toast. Crunchy always.

Smooth PB instead of butter on toast then a nice tangy marmalade. Cup of tea, obvs.

I was just going to add this! Marmalade on pb is delicious! My dd has it on warm bread (toast on the lowest toaster setting) a liberal spread of pb and then some marmalade on top. It's nice on crumpets too😊

Yellowdays · 05/03/2023 18:08

Marmalade on peanut butter for me too. Thin layer of each!

Funkyslippers · 05/03/2023 18:16

furryfrontbottom nothing is fattening if you eat it in moderation. I eat loads of bread but I'm not overweight

CornedBeef451 · 05/03/2023 18:16

I only eat peanut butter on a spoon straight from the jar, can't stand it if I put it on anything, the texture is all wrong.

I like the whole earth crunchy one.

Newestname002 · 05/03/2023 19:21

Yes to a good firm wholegrain toast, followed by crunchy peanut butter (I love Meridian which is free of sugar, salt and palm oil), plus black cherry jam or fine cut marmalade. 😋😋

Shannith · 05/03/2023 19:24

Crunchy peanut butter. Whole food one is ace but Sainsbury’s own brand is not half bad
Square of proper dark chocolate. Sainsbury's taste the difference 90% Ugandan is my choice but it works with all chocolate
Sprinkle of sea salt (or any salt)
Sprinkle of sugar if going for it

Heaven and pisses all over Reese's

Or

Ice cube tray, half fill each bit with a teaspoon of peanut butter and teaspoon of Nutella equivalent

Freeze. Eat and weep with joy.

A sprinkle of sea salt brings peanut butter to life . It has has to be sunpat, nearly all the other brands are stuffed with additives and palm oil.

There are loads of great brands that don't have palm oil in - Manilife and Meridian are two of them.

70sDuvet · 05/03/2023 22:33

Bani me too! I also got the idea from the ABC novels. Pure perfection, especially on soft white bread. Also pretty good on a toasted bagel.
I may try the pickled onion version a PP suggested.

I also like mixing PB with chilli sauce and chicken for a very shite but delicious "satay" sandwich, or being a bit more complicated and add more ingredients for a satay stirfry sauce for noodles and veg.

Omg I do not need to get out of bed to make a PB sandwich...but I might.

MasterCherry · 05/03/2023 22:46

PB on weak bread is not good, nor is the taste of peanut with anything sweet. My breakfast has to be a slice of proper sourdough (toasted until slightly crisp), thin thin scraping of marmite, thick layer of Whole Earth 100% peanut crunchy. Cup of strong black coffee. Nothing else keeps me going for long enough.

MasterCherry · 05/03/2023 22:51

Also the peanut sauce in this Meera Sodha recipe is AMAZING

Cas112 · 05/03/2023 22:58

Peanut butter and apple 🤤

OneTC · 05/03/2023 23:12

PonyPatter44 · 05/03/2023 12:15

Peanut butter on toast is horrible. The best thing to do with peanut butter is to cook it with coconut milk and chillies and shallots, to make a banging satay sauce.

And put it on chips

WindowGazers · 05/03/2023 23:13

It is very claggy, which is why it isn't safe to give young children on a spoon. Bagel with peanut butter and honey is the one.

Wombats23 · 05/03/2023 23:16

Fry your peanut butter, banana & jam sandwich in butter. Enjoy in moderation. 😋

Good enough for Elvis...

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 05/03/2023 23:24

Crunchy on slices of Granny Smith apple. Or in a sandwich with cucumber.
Never tried it with jam or on toast.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 06/03/2023 00:36

I love a peanut butter and tomato sandwich - the acid cuts through the clag and it’s delicious!

😂 I was just coming on to say if you still can’t get on with it try some American peanut butter! Trust me, we need butter with the PB over here, it’s far thicker and less spreadable! Give me a jar of Jif any day!

OwlDoll · 06/03/2023 00:50

On a hot toasted crumpet with a smear of coconut oil instead of butter and topped with raspberry jam. Tastes incredible!
