Peanut butter and other things we get wrong

AngelicInnocent · 05/03/2023 12:06

OK so I really like things like reeses with peanut butter in but when I have bought peanut butter and put it on bread, it's the most claggy, odd sensation and I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but what?

I'm a grown ass adult so should be capable of making a sandwich. Please enlighten me.

Also feel free to add things you need enlightenment on.

I love it on bread with grape/strawberry/apple jelly/jam or preserves. Used to have one every day for lunch. And it’s very filling…and cheap.

Siriusmuggle · 05/03/2023 14:27

I just eat it with a spoon. Crunchy only.

Crunchy Peanut Butter and Pickled Red Cabbage sandwich. 😛

RuperttheBearHug · 05/03/2023 14:28

Peanut butter is nice with crisp lettuce in a sandwich I find. Bit like with celery as someone mentioned above. We use organic smooth and it’s nicer than the saccharine sweet stuff. Also like it with jam or shredless marmalade also good!

Cant get my head around putting it with butter but I don’t like butter so that’s probs why….

On toast with butter & banana slices!

AngelicInnocent · 05/03/2023 14:30

Peeny-b and mashed banana in a toasted sandwich.

Makes me so happy the International Space Station is at risk

OriGanOver · 05/03/2023 14:31

I think it's claggy even on toast. I have it with oatcakes - game changer!

SallyWD · 05/03/2023 14:32

I love peanut butter and honey on toast. Delicious - and the honey stops it being so claggy.

JaceLancs · 05/03/2023 14:32

I love peanut butter with slices of apple - preferably Granny Smiths

Globe22 · 05/03/2023 14:33

PB & J sandwich, plus glass of ice cold milk.

Yes! That was one of my go-to sandwiches as a kid. A small stack with a large glass of ice cold milk.

Love PB with sliced bananas and honey on bread or in oats with hot milk.

Always have your sandwich with a hot cup of tea. And don’t use any normal butter.

Yep that’s the one. Hot cup of builders tea….heads off to the kitchen 😜

FrostyNethers · 05/03/2023 15:04

Absolutely need butter first then peanut butter or it will be claggy.

I highly recommend it on slices of apple as a snack (red rather than green for me).

Make a chicken stew with tinned tomatoes, garlic, ginger, onions, tomato puree and add your peanut butter with lots of chilli.

I’m drooling! Are there any rexipies
you’d recommend? (I am not a natural cook and rely on recipes or risk inedible food!)

Loads of salty butter and soft white bread - delicious treat

Keswick1967 · 05/03/2023 15:47

Toast with crunchy peanut butter, a thin layer of marmite and then hummus on top

pumpkinpiee · 05/03/2023 15:56

It’s nice on toast with either Nutella or honey. Or dip apple slices into it 😋

Just my own - soften onions in oil with a pinch of salt, then add a couple of cloves of chopped garlic, about a teaspoon of grated fresh ginger and once you can smell them, add 2-3 tablespoons tomato puree and a tin of chopped tomatoes (add some water if after the next step it doesn't look liquid enough).

Drop in either skinned chicken thighs/thigh fillet pieces, cut into bite size chunks or some chicken breast, a red chilli sliced thinly, put the lid on and let simmer on the lowest temp (or in a slow cooker) until you go back to it and see some oil on the top where it's separated.

At that point, taste the sauce (it'll be very hot and a bit runny) and decide if you want to add a pinch of chilli flakes and some black pepper. Then add a lot of peanut butter, stirring until it melts into a thick sauce.

If you want a little bit 'extra' you can stir in part cooked carrots, potatoes, chunks of courgette, butternut squash, red peppers and/or part cooked chunks of sweet potatoes when you add the chicken. That's the bit you get to play around with - just add more water if you've got harder veg going in.

I like adding coriander leaves at the end and some lime juice.

Serve with rice.

Agree with pp, raspberry jam is best for pp&j.

I love a Goober Grape for nostalgia, my Grandad lived in USA and used to get it for me. It's pb with grape jelly swirls.

I don't mind smooth or crunchy.

I make sesame noodles with pb. Noodles, soy, peanut butter, tahini, sesame oil, ginger and garlic.

SchoolTripDrama · 05/03/2023 16:42

Scrape some onto a wedge of Apple

Hankunamatata · 05/03/2023 16:45

Dark rye ryvita, peanut butter then layer Nutella on top yum

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/03/2023 16:47

Skippy's Peanut Butter Crunchy
Toast , left to cool (otherwise it melts <bleurgh>)
No butter
But with Nutella , it's a Snicker Sandwhich !

Sit up at 3am with acid reflux , peanut butter is not good for me so I eat it really rarely .

Toasted crumpets.
Any one said toasted crumpets yet? (It’s a long thread)
Yup, toasted crumpets. No butter, just slather on the smooth peanut butter.
vegan. Delish.
