Peanut butter and other things we get wrong

AngelicInnocent · 05/03/2023 12:06

OK so I really like things like reeses with peanut butter in but when I have bought peanut butter and put it on bread, it's the most claggy, odd sensation and I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but what?

I'm a grown ass adult so should be capable of making a sandwich. Please enlighten me.

Also feel free to add things you need enlightenment on.

My Ex did too!

I LOVE both, but not together!!

@AngelicInnocent there are many more virtuous peanut butters, but for me, it has to be Skippy Crunch with just the lightest smear of jam on top. On anything!! But whole grain, seeded is the mutts nuts!

as a low carber, I have to suffer with celery (& no jam) instead!

my very very VERY BAD Sunpat NOT skippy

They have!!!

Doh! I realised too late 😆 It’s the savoury way to go.

@NewChange personally, despite living both, I can't abide them together!

in the same way I love latte & I love chocolate, but cannot abide mocha.

Crunchy peanut butter with either Welch's grape jelly or sliced banana and honey on a crumpet for me. The Warburtons giant crumpets are best.

Bemyclementine · 05/03/2023 13:44

Have on toast, as suggested, with jam or sliced banana or sliced strawberries

BrokenBonesStixStones · 05/03/2023 13:48

Lovely on toast or bagel. No butter.

Tried PBJ for first in Florida, only vegetarian option and I was scared lol, but it was lovely!

Undertheoldlindentree · 05/03/2023 13:48

Try spreading crunchy PB directly onto a wrap, add a few thin slices of apple and a couple of finely chopped dates (or shavings from a cooking block of dates.lurking at the back of the cupboard). It's at least 3 times better than it has any right to be!!!

As you are in this mental space, please could you make two more sandwiches. One with sandwich spread, one with haslet.

I was crazy about them as a kid. I'd like it confirmed to me as an adult that they really are as disgusting as they look to me now.

Be brave. I'm not.

Thank you

I can't comment on the haslet. But the sandwich spread, abso-bloomin-lutely. I thought that was only me.

The ss is sharp and although it has bits in it they're very soft. Paired with a good crunchy pb it's an amazing combination of flavours and textures.

<adds sandwich spread to next Sainsbury's order>

Marmite and crunchy peanut butter on toast

And with cheddar cheese spread 👌🏻

viques · 05/03/2023 13:51

A sprinkle of sea salt brings peanut butter to life . It has has to be sunpat, nearly all the other brands are stuffed with additives and palm oil.

StopStartStop · 05/03/2023 13:52

seeded toast. a little butter. peanut butter. banana slices.
Enjoy.

snowqu33n · 05/03/2023 13:53

On granary bread with Wensleydale. Crunchy version only.

pandora206 · 05/03/2023 13:54

Love crunchy PB on whole grain (granary, rye, etc.) toast with sliced banana. I usually skip the butter but that's nice too.

I try to avoid brands with palm oil and definitely no sugar. In Food for Life Tim Spector mentions Pip & Nut as particularly good nutritionally.

Cookerhood · 05/03/2023 13:59

To my shame my favourite is Skippy. I don't buy it because

  1. Palm oil & all sorts of awful ingredients
  2. I could eat a jar full with a spoon very quickly, which is not good.
I allow myself a jar every fews years & then remember why not. Mani life is good though. I currently have an awful Tesco one which I will have to use up on something.
SunsetStrip · 05/03/2023 13:59

I like pb and cream cheese on a toasted bagel. Don't knock it till you've tried it

Fairislefandango · 05/03/2023 13:59

YABU. Peanut butter is delicious in pretty much any context (on bread, toast, in cooking, straight off the spoon etc). It is not delicious in Reeses, because a) it's horrible, over-sweet peanut butter and b) it's in horrible chocolate!

Greensleevevssnotnose · 05/03/2023 14:01

I like it with bacon or burgers in a sandwich

Crucible · 05/03/2023 14:04

Don't keep the peanut butter in the fridge, it shouldn't be cold. Don't double dip your knife and get anything else in it like butter or jam. That way germs lie. It spreads better and tastes better at cupboard temperature.

KiwiMum2023 · 05/03/2023 14:05

Manilife Crunchy is next level. And on the freshest white bread. Not toasted. Perfection.

Pourmeanotherwine · 05/03/2023 14:08

I'm not a fan of peanut butter, but DD eats it in a little pot with a sliced apple to dip in it.

oviraptor21 · 05/03/2023 14:11

Smooth on bread is the best. Never anywhere near jam or anything else like it. Possibly OK with banana but frankly why would you bother when it's just fine, plain on bread.

The Manilife Crunchy with cocoa raises the bar still further, IMO 😊

NewBootsAndRanty · 05/03/2023 14:22

Proper Nutty Slightly Salted is amazing.

pattihews · 05/03/2023 14:23

Great with Marmite (Marmite on first) and also with banana (peanut butter on first then thin slices of banana on top). I know you won't believe me but give it a go.

Also next time you make a stir fry make a sauce with one finely-chopped ginger and garlic and chilli, some dark soy sauce and some light soy sauce, some sweet chilli sauce and a tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter. It's a satay-style sauce and it's great with crunchy stir-fried veg. You can also use it to make cookies and peanut butter brownies.

And yes, only good quality crunchy will do. Peanuts are a good, sustainable source of protein.

Jooliusreezer · 05/03/2023 14:25

PB & J sandwich, plus glass of ice cold milk.
