Peanut butter and other things we get wrong

AngelicInnocent · 05/03/2023 12:06

OK so I really like things like reeses with peanut butter in but when I have bought peanut butter and put it on bread, it's the most claggy, odd sensation and I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but what?

I'm a grown ass adult so should be capable of making a sandwich. Please enlighten me.

Also feel free to add things you need enlightenment on.

Crunchy Freda's peanut butter on granary toast. This one is lush https://www.fredas.co.uk/product/fredas-peanut-butter-with-fruit-and-spice/

Or with celery, this one https://www.fredas.co.uk/product/fredas-peanut-butter-with-chipotle-chilli/

The Aldi Whole Earth dupe is good too.

TicTac80 · 05/03/2023 12:36

For me, it's hot toast, with a bit of butter, then crunchy peanut butter with a tiny drizzle of honey. Washed down with a black coffee. I rarely eat toast/bread though.

Crunchy PB with apple pieces or celery sticks is YUM!

JMSA · 05/03/2023 12:52

Crunchy is best! I enjoy it on seeded toast - or a bagel - with sliced banana on top.

Murdoch1949 · 05/03/2023 13:02

Good jam with it is the key, stops the clagginess, adds extra flavour.

mondaytosunday · 05/03/2023 13:08

No butter and try it with banana!

Spitspotspitspot · 05/03/2023 13:12

Don't knock it until you have tried it... but I use good quality smooth Peanut Butter, and then put it in the blender.... whip it for a few minutes. It slightly increases in volume, but is easier to spread and less 'claggy' if you know what I mean! And thanks all for making me hungry...... gah!

MotherOfPuffling · 05/03/2023 13:13

The smooth you’ve got can be swirled through a chocolate brownie mix before baking rather than be wasted.
I used to like eating crunchy peanut butter by the spoonful, with a hot chocolate, otherwise on v buttery granary toast. Ooh, wish I still could!

Blueuggboots · 05/03/2023 13:16

Sunpat is the only one to buy. Don't buy the 100% peanut ones, they're disgusting!!!

Make a chicken stew with tinned tomatoes, garlic, ginger, onions, tomato puree and add your peanut butter with lots of chilli.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 05/03/2023 13:20

I have it with sliced bananas on toast with butter. Has to be smooth though, not crunchy. I buy Sunpat as I don't actually like the 100% stuff - it's too claggy and sticks to the roof of your mouth.

Try it with marmite

Might have to try that. I used to love peanut butter and jam sandwiches, but can't eat jam now. PB on it's own doesn't quite cut it.

slowquickstep · 05/03/2023 13:26

Butter, crunchy PB and banana on hot toast is heaven

RiverSkater · 05/03/2023 13:26

Savoury would be with egg noodles, chilli and broccoli. Add a bit of Sesame oil. Quick lunch you can have cold.

Add chicken or tofu if you like.

Peanut butter makes a really good satay sauce.

If you worry about the fat content you can buy powdered peanut butter which has the fat removed. It's great for cooking.

Divebar2021 · 05/03/2023 13:27

I think Sunpat and all of the other brands with added sugar are vile. Once you’re accustomed to the less sweet version going back is like eating American chocolate ( just because millions of people eat it doesn’t make it good). Making your own is really easy you just roast your peanuts and stick them in the food processor until it’s the right consistency- add a bit of salt. I’m not sure why you would add butter when you’re eating it on toast either.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/03/2023 13:30

With a banana on toast,mmmmmmm!

NewChange · 05/03/2023 13:30

Why has nobody yet said plus marmite?

Thighdentitycrisis · 05/03/2023 13:31

@Somanymistakes
I don’t still add Sandwich spread but do salad cream on a sandwich not toast

TheOnlyMooncat · 05/03/2023 13:31

I had a recipe years ago that tasted just like Reese's peanut butter cups. It was from a Nigella Lawson book.
I remember it was peanut butter, icing sugar and brown sugar mixed and melted chocolate poured on the top 🤤
Now I would vote for whole earth crunchy on a spoon straight from the jar.

WinterMusings · 05/03/2023 13:32

Wimpeyspread · 05/03/2023 12:26

Definitely crunchy, and preferably 100% peanuts. I like mine with marmite

My Ex did too!

I LOVE both, but not together!!

@AngelicInnocent there are many more virtuous peanut butters, but for me, it has to be Skippy Crunch with just the lightest smear of jam on top. On anything!! But whole grain, seeded is the mutts nuts!

as a low carber, I have to suffer with celery (& no jam) instead!

Ooh yes - I remember making these Grin they tasted absolutely amazing.

catless · 05/03/2023 13:32

Smooth PB instead of butter on toast then a nice tangy marmalade. Cup of tea, obvs.

Or this.... (for non low carbers!!) drool....

NewChange · 05/03/2023 13:32

I usually use a banana as vehicle for peanut butter - just smear a teaspoon worth along it. Sounds gross and messy but it’s less faff than spreading on toast and no wheat bloat.

NewChange · 05/03/2023 13:30

They have!!!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 05/03/2023 13:33

You need it with nutella, its like snickers on toast.
