to expect something for Mothering Sunday?

Currently pregnant with my first child, due in August. DH's siblings have been texting planning gifts for his mum for Mothers' Day. I said, "Oooh, you'll have to get me some chocolates or something this year too!" He looked at me like I had three heads and I felt a bit silly and spoilt for suggesting it. Is it weird to expect a token gift/card on Mothering Sunday when you're a mum-to-be?

Sorry YABU, you’re not a mother yet and I find the whole ‘presents from baby in utero’ to be a bit odd. As you asked 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hotpotter · 02/03/2023 13:43

Agree with Moonicorn

Theduchy · 02/03/2023 13:44

I agree with the PP. Your first mother's day will be next year with your baby.

Gizlotsmum · 02/03/2023 13:45

Sorry at 3 ? months pregnant I can understand why he wouldn’t expect to get you anything for Mother’s Day. Definitely next year tho

butterfliedtwo · 02/03/2023 13:46

You're not a mother yet. I'm with PP. YABU.

RatherBeRiding · 02/03/2023 13:47

Yes it is. You're pregnant, not a mother yet.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 02/03/2023 13:47

Next year yes. This year no.

Expectingfirstbaby · 02/03/2023 13:48

It might not have occurred to him but now you've suggested it I hope he does get you something x

isittheholidaysyet · 02/03/2023 13:48

I totally disagree with those saying you are not a mother yet. You became a parent as soon as the conception happened.

However, I do think expecting a mother's day gift at this point is a bit silly.
But then I'm not really bothered about mother's day anyway.

worried4698643 · 02/03/2023 13:48

You are being silly. Enjoy your first Mother's Day next year.

rattlemehearties · 02/03/2023 13:48

No way, I would've considered this really crass and bad luck (I'm not even superstitious). Wait until next year.

soleilblue · 02/03/2023 13:48

Yabu

BungleandGeorge · 02/03/2023 13:49

It’s a bit silly to expect this but now he knows it’s not really an enormous task to ickworth up a box of chocs to make your pregnant wife happy!

Moonicorn · 02/03/2023 13:50

You became a parent as soon as the conception happened.

I mean it’s semantics but of course you don’t. Otherwise women who take the morning after pill but have no kids are ‘mothers’ aren’t they?

soleilblue · 02/03/2023 13:51

That first mothers day holding your child is magical. Just wait

Marblessolveeverything · 02/03/2023 13:53

I appreciate it is very exciting but no, your first mothers day is post baby. And I say that as a mother to those I have held and the little ones I didn't get that far.

I’m not superstitious either but I would also consider it bad luck. There’s a reason people don’t announce pregnancies until 3 months.

have you had your 12 week scan yet o/p?

This.

Like a pp though I don't care about Mother's Day anyway.

Asummersday · 02/03/2023 13:55

I think men generally don’t think about little things like this 😂 but you’re not BU in suggesting it, hopefully he receives the message and gets a cute gift! No drama, no problems

congrats! 😊

Garrie · 02/03/2023 13:55

No way would I want this until the baby was here. YABU

frazzledasarock · 02/03/2023 13:55

If it will make you happy I don’t see why he wouldn’t get you a bunch of flowers or chocolate

quietnightmare · 02/03/2023 13:56

Awww yes as a token if you'd like something then yes. It's not uncommon, loads of baubles and Xmas decorations saying 'bump' on them and things like that for pregnant woman

FiveHundredDucksWentOutOneDay · 02/03/2023 13:56

Yeah, I think so. I think DH got me a "card from bump", which was a sweet thought, but I don't think I'd have been upset if he hadn't - and it'd have been weird to ask him to do it, it totally takes the meaning away.

FilthyforFirth · 02/03/2023 13:59

Yabu. What an odd request to make, no wonder your DH looked at you like you were mad.

xogossipgirlxo · 02/03/2023 13:59

Sorry, but you are a bit U. You will enjoy your Mother's Day next year.
