To be getting really pissed off with this

Someone keeps ordering deliveroo food to this house. We haven’t ordered anything and don’t use Deliveroo. It’s been happening every day for the past few weeks, sometimes multiple times a day. I’m starting to get really annoyed. If we are not in/don’t answer the door then the deliveroo driver just leaves it outside right outside in front of the door. Sometimes multiple bags as the orders have been that big. Someone is obviously doing it to us but no idea who. The drivers can’t tell us the phone number of the Deliveroo account that is making these orders due to data protection, I have asked them multiple times when they knock on the door. What do I do? Aibu to be getting really pissed off with this?

On the face of it free food...yay...but it's actually really creepy. If you don't think you have a good samaritan (the randomess and late deliveries would seem to preclude this) then I'd contact the police. If someone is doing this internationally it would absolutely fall within the scope of harassment.

I am wondering if this is to do with card fraud. When I had my card cloned they ordered three takeaways in quick succession to ‘test’ my card. They obviously can't have it delivered to their address - so get it delivered elsewhere. To use the same address seems a bit foolish though. My card was cloned through parent pay at my sons school - they actually hacked into the system. They got about £480 out of my account in an hour - I spotted it and stopped my card. I was told they do loads of small payments before taking a large amount.

Yes I was thinking some sort of fraud too. I doubt deliveroo can give OP any details about who placed the order, so logging it with the police is probably a good idea.

CatMattress · 25/02/2023 18:00

Could it be a test address for the app which has glitched somewhere?

Yes, I think they are doing it on someone else's card. Definitely worth a chat with Police on 101

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 25/02/2023 18:03

Is it always sent from one person or multiple different people. Are you or any of your kids on social media iv seen this with tiktokers when their address has been baited out and they've had to move house in the end

Shoemadlady · 25/02/2023 18:04

Is there a name in the receipt attached to the bag? If so try and put it on FB and see who pops up? This sounds a bit malicious and bordering on harassment. I think I'd tell the police. It's really odd

Knulp · 25/02/2023 18:04

old story but possibly relevant

Mammatoone · 25/02/2023 18:05

Do you live on a new build estate? I have this problem where I live except it's me ordering to food/parcels to a block of flats (which is at the end of the road) and they deliver to the house with the same number and just refund me when I complain it's not been received and presumably the house are taking my deliveries as they show as delivered. I have the same issue not just with deliveroo but with parcels too

Shoemadlady · 25/02/2023 18:05

Or, ask the delivery driver to call who ordered it and speak to them and ask them directly why they're doing it?

Coxspurplepippin · 25/02/2023 18:06

Why not just contact deliveroo and get a block put on the name and your address? Tell deliveroo you're involving the police in case it's fraud. I'm sure they'll sort it quick enough.

Backstreets · 25/02/2023 18:11

Has to be either some kind of scam, or mental illness.

AngelicInnocent · 25/02/2023 18:12

This happened in the area where we lived and it was a pissed off ex employee who still had the work credit card details. Not always the same address though.

mommatoone · 25/02/2023 18:13

Fair point contacting deliveroo to report it / put block on address. But OP said theyve had takeaways sent which they were expected to pay for.
I would be pissed off as well too OP. Hopefully whoever is doing this will soon get bored/ run out of money!! .
If not , id log it with the Police

BeeBB · 25/02/2023 18:14

OP is it the same name on the food each time?

I think when someone sets up a Deliveroo order they need to go in and double check the address and amend if necessary. I am thinking that 1) they probably haven’t realised and haven’t done this yet. Our food would have gone a few doors away had we not amended it or 2) have you or your partner done something to really annoy a petty person or people.

Either way I would complain to Deliveroo that your children are getting woke up.

CreaturesAreSleeping · 25/02/2023 18:25

Could you have a very hungry person living in your attic or shed? 😱

808Kate1 · 25/02/2023 18:31

BellaJuno · 25/02/2023 17:45

I can’t believe some posters think the OP has any responsibility to make sure the food isn’t wasted. Frankly it’s a very odd situation and most rational people would want it sorted. I’d contact Deliveroo head office and ask what they can do to stop it happening. It’s verging on harassment.

Yes this, although I would say it is harassment and I'd log it with 101.

Cocobutt · 25/02/2023 18:32

I wish I had this problem! 😁

I would just eat it.

How long have you lived there?

I ordered something off eBay which I hadn’t done for ages and didn’t realise I hadn’t changed my address.
I wonder if this could be happening here which is why it’s sometimes multiple times and they don’t collect it.

They could also be getting the wrong postcode or something and then wondering why it’s not turning up so keep trying.

I would speak to deliveroo and tell them to tell the person that this is not their address.
Surely there must be some way deliveroo can contact them and tell them.

LookItsMeAgain · 25/02/2023 18:38

Is that you live in a place that goes by Main Street Avenue and they are actually for Main Street Street or Close or something?

If they are delivering for Smith and you're a Jones, can you not (not that you should have to, to be honest) check to see if on the electoral register there might be a Jones on one of the other Main Street addresses?

Shadesofscarlett · 25/02/2023 18:39

can't you refuse each delivery?

MichaelFabricantWig · 25/02/2023 18:40

Oohhhh · 25/02/2023 17:22

All the people saying what's the problem....really?

Quite

pigsinoodies · 25/02/2023 18:41

There's a proper MN solution to this.

Never answer your door.

soraya · 25/02/2023 18:42

as someone is paying for it then either it is getting delivered to wrong address or someone thinks they are doing you a favour. Is there anyone who thinks you need a treat or would appreciate this? Several times a day does sound surprising though.

Inkypinkee · 25/02/2023 18:44

So I work in this industry. If someone has got hold of a stolen card then they often order to a house nearby so they don’t get caught. When you don’t answer the driver messages the person ordering and they then message back saying just leave on the doorstep, then they come get their food. Or they leave a note on the order saying to call as “kids are sleeping” and they will come and get the food. Then they pop out from their nearby house and get the order.

The times that you do answer doesn’t matter, they didn’t pay for the food anyway. You can ask deliveroo to blacklist your address.

BUT! Ordering takeaway for cash on delivery happens with other apps, as a form of harassment. These apps can normally blacklist your address too.

Both companies will provide customer details to the police that you are unable to access if you raise with the police. They have access to things like card fingerprints.

Whyisitsososohard · 25/02/2023 18:46

Triffid1 · 25/02/2023 17:11

This makes no sense as deliveroo requires a code when you order to ensure its the right place.

Not always. We order regular and have only had a code twice.

StopGrowingPlease · 25/02/2023 18:46

Send them to us, we’d love that!! 😮
