To be getting really pissed off with this

Someone keeps ordering deliveroo food to this house. We haven’t ordered anything and don’t use Deliveroo. It’s been happening every day for the past few weeks, sometimes multiple times a day. I’m starting to get really annoyed. If we are not in/don’t answer the door then the deliveroo driver just leaves it outside right outside in front of the door. Sometimes multiple bags as the orders have been that big. Someone is obviously doing it to us but no idea who. The drivers can’t tell us the phone number of the Deliveroo account that is making these orders due to data protection, I have asked them multiple times when they knock on the door. What do I do? Aibu to be getting really pissed off with this?

Super creepy and I imagine it's someone who is watching you answer the door in the middle of the night.....

Get a ring doorbell. Don't answer the door.

Keep a log of how many deliveries you are receiving. Inform the police.

Keep a record of the companies - e.g if it's local Indian take-away get the name and contact them. Tell them if they are receiving orders for your address it's a hoax and soon to be Police matter.

Also put a note on your front door - we did not order deliveroo, do not ring the bell or knock.

What I would absolutely not be doing though is answering the door. I wouldn't even be turning a light on.

Keep your curtains drawn.

I had a stalker once - about 15yrs ago. It went on for months and it was terrifying. Police did take it very seriously and did track him - turned out it was a taxi driver who had once given me a lift. So he knew my address and telephone number. I lived on a highstreet and he could see into my flat. You never know sometimes what the cause is - it can quite literally be a stranger.

Sugargliderwombat · 25/02/2023 18:49

You can ask deliveroo to block your address

Pfeiffle · 25/02/2023 18:51

You said you leave the delivery outside. Does it get collected?

Inkypinkee · 25/02/2023 18:51

Also for people mentioning the code, that is actually to prove you (the person who placed the order) got the food. As only that person has the code. This stops people ordering and later claiming the food never arrived.

deliveroo are only meant to accept the code in person and not over messages, but the drivers don’t always care. It’s not implemented in all areas.

People with a stolen card delivering to a fake address just use my previously mentioned method of communicating with the driver via message and waiting in a car then taking the food off the driver before he gets to your front door.

Inkypinkee · 25/02/2023 18:52

I should also say that if you are getting the cash orders problem this doesn’t indicate card fraud, or you have two problems.

shittyshitshit · 25/02/2023 18:57

This is very odd behaviour and amounts to harassment in my view. I'd be calling the police to report. As for those saying OP is wasteful for not eating food that she didn't want and didn't order, randomly turning up multiple times a day, seriously?! I wouldn't be eating it either, I'd be calling the police and getting them to deal with it.

shittyshitshit · 25/02/2023 18:59

Comes under "sending unwanted gifts" imo. Definitely harassment.

Is your address registered as a business address or anything?

I ask because ours is, and the amount of times food delivery companies have tried to leave food with us that we didn't order is insane. I think because it's registered as a 'point of interest' (not the right term, but I don't know how else to describe it) on Google maps or whatever they see our address and get confused.

The worse part about it is the fact that the drivers never actually believe that you haven't ordered anything and act like maybe you are just so ditsy and silly you've forgotten 🙃

Cocobutt · 25/02/2023 19:11

I very much doubt it is harassment as OP would have an idea of who it is.

They would also use other platforms like eBay and Amazon to send things, not just waste money on food.

People use harassment as a way to threaten/annoy you - this isn’t obviously the case here.

Or to get your attention as they are infatuated with you - again not the case as it would be obvious who it is and they would send other things apart from just food.

Newnamedaily · 25/02/2023 19:18

3 drivers delivered at once? That must had been a lot of food, I’m guessing maybe 10 takeaways?
That can’t be right, what do you with it, leave outside, does anyone pick it up or is the delivery turning up at late?

DragonsFurry · 25/02/2023 19:19

Oh we had this too. They kept trying to deliver fish and chips every Friday amongst other things and once someone left a bag of supermarket shopping on the doorstep. I think it was meant for someone the next street along but they’d put our postcode by mistake….Eventually one of the drivers understood the muddle-up, I believe they then delivered to the right house and told them to change the postcode.

Paturday · 25/02/2023 19:19

Triffid1 · 25/02/2023 17:11

This makes no sense as deliveroo requires a code when you order to ensure its the right place.

Nope we haven’t had to use a code for about a month.

TrishM80 · 25/02/2023 19:23

This is weird. It's a very expensive practical joke for whoever is doing it. I mean, why would anyone bother?!

WonderWoop · 25/02/2023 19:26

This is v creepy, you're definitely not being unreasonable!

Blossomandbee · 25/02/2023 19:30

I'd speak to the police as it's harassment, they would be able to get the persons details from Deliveroo.
In the meantime I would put a note on the door with a brief explanation and saying not to knock or leave food.

Thats simply not the case. See my post above. I had no idea who my stalker was.

Same here. Its ridiculous to think the OP would automatically know who this person is. We were stalked for ages and had no idea who it was- it turned out to be a neighbour down the road we had never had any interaction with at all and I had no idea of their name and couldnt have picked them out of a line up. Turned out they were racist (due to us being in an inter racial relationship). Its actually terrifying to have no idea of whom is doing it and why- it almost drives you mad. Agree with informing police.

Climbles · 25/02/2023 19:51

You’re being stalked. I’d bet money that the person lives in a house (or has access to a place) where they can see your front door.
It’s the first time for me to wheel out this Mumsnet classic but you need to call 101. This kind of behaviour generally escalates.

Odd thing to say with such certainty. Having been the victim of actual stalking, I can tell you stalkers work in mysterious ways.

I very much doubt it is harassment as OP would have an idea of who it is

Hopefully there isn't anything nefarious behind the intentions of the phantom food-sender but this is absolute bollocks.

When you order food you know when they are dropping it off. When your order Amazon etc it is a much broader time frame.

Maybebabyno2 · 25/02/2023 19:57

Nope. I would hate this! I would rather starve than not know who is sending multiple deliveries to my door. I watch way too much true crime to think this is okay.

Verbena17 · 25/02/2023 19:57

Is there someone you’ve mentioned being a bit pushed finance-wise at the moment? Maybe a friend, someone you work with, someone from a group you’re in/church etc?

Echobelly · 25/02/2023 20:02

Very weird - we get quite a lot of food deliveries that aren't for us because we there is a (not very obvious) block of flats above shops at the top of our road and drivers don't check the address properly so stuff is meant for 'Flat [Our Number], X Court, Our Street', but the driver just goes to Our Number, Our Street. Luckily no one's yet come after we're in bed but it'll happen sooner or later.

I was trying to think if there could be any explanation along those lines, but can't think of anything.

Feefee00 · 25/02/2023 20:04

I'd eat it but sounds like a stalker op a weird benevolent one at the moment but that could change. If it keeps happening I'd report to the police and ring the stalking helpline.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 25/02/2023 20:07

I wouldn't eat it. It's probably fine but it would creep me out.

I'd contact Deliveroo and ask them to block my address.
