DH gave the dog marmite

UnluckyPennsatucky · 20/02/2023 21:40

DH gave the dog a tablespoon of marmite as he was told it helps them settle. Now her belly is making weird noises and she’s crying etc hours later

DH thinks it’s a coincidence, I think it could be the marmite

Google has mixed opinions as to whether dogs can eat marmite

Actually gluten free crumpets are a bit prone to falling apart perhaps cutlery is a good idea for gluten free people?

Marmite isn't gluten free!

SoupDragon · 21/02/2023 08:34

This thread is utterly bonkers. Even the vet the OP called wasn't worried!

gemstoneju · 21/02/2023 08:36

Marmite is a good way of giving a dog or cat a tablet, but that's just a tiny dab. A tablespoon is bonkers.

diddl · 21/02/2023 08:38

Glad dog is ok.

Marmite helps a dog settle-in what way?

I would think that all a tablespoon would do is give them a raging thirst!

SlashBeef · 20/02/2023 23:17

Dog people are absolutely mental 🤣 they'd be less irate if you'd set fire to someone's nan and done a ceremonial dance.

To be fair, my granny's an arsehole but my beautiful dog delights me daily. Have at it 😂

How about us catching and shooting you? Plenty of dogs that size!

Go on then, show us one.

tillyoumakeit · 21/02/2023 08:52

Just read this from start to finish 🤣 hilarious.

Glad the dog (and DH) have lived to tell the tale!!

Mastiffs regularly top 100kgs,as do Great Danes, there are plenty of these dogs around. In fact two dogs over 100kg go to our local groomers. They are certainly not that rare. The largest recorded mastiff weight was 128 kgs I believe.

I think you're thinking of pounds, not kilos.

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/02/2023 08:55

Starllight · 20/02/2023 21:43

A tablespoon? I think the salt content in a tablespoon of marmite would kill me let alone a dog. What weight is your dog? I’d contact the vet for their opinion

This!

Marmite is just jam made out of salt. I'd get her to the vet asap.

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/02/2023 08:56

Oh - sorry - I should have read on.

As you were.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 21/02/2023 09:04

The world record dog weight was a St Bernard who weighed just over 160kg, but that was a serious outlier. English mastiffs are, I think, the only breed that regularly tops 100kg; St Bernards and great danes typically top out around 90kg, and other types of mastiffs between 70 and 80 (except bull mastiffs, at a mere 60kg).

Watercoloursky · 21/02/2023 09:08

Sorry, I know this is contributing to the derail... but 100kg is the best part of 16 stone!

DappledThings · 21/02/2023 09:14

Was chatting to the man in our village last week who has a St Bernard's puppy. She's already 60kg. His last one who died a few weeks ago was 106kg. Puppy was gorgeous and definitely felt pretty big when she insisted on sitting on my feet.

And eating crumpets with cutlery is definitely weird.

MrBallensWife · 21/02/2023 09:17

Obstackle · 20/02/2023 21:48

Call a vet.

See if you can have your idiot DH pts.

🤣😂🤣
I shouldn't laugh but it tickled me!

silverbubbles · 21/02/2023 09:24

Is she crying for more marmite?

GimmeSleep · 21/02/2023 09:41

Sixgeese · 20/02/2023 23:14

While I would never give DDog a tablespoon of marmite, he has been known to steal the plate that I am eating marmite crumpets off and licks any remaining dregs of marmite off it.

I think he likes the taste as while he lets me finish the crumpet as soon as the last bite is on the fork, his head comes up and he grabs and runs off with the plate.

I on the other hand, do occasionally eat marmite by the spoonful, it is yummy!!

You eat crumpets with a fork? 😮

Wheresthebeach · 21/02/2023 10:08

I accept it was daft to give the dog that much Marmite but with treats like these maybe it's understandable that he made a mistake.

I hate Marmite.
Glad doggy is okay.

Justforlaffs · 21/02/2023 10:13

I see I was wrong and you're married to an animal abuser. I wouldn't stay with a man who poisoned my dog. I hope you won't either.

God, this place 🤣🙄

PurpleButterflyWings · 21/02/2023 10:29

I am glad doggo is fine @UnluckyPennsatucky but your DH is a pillock. Should never have given your dog salty shit like this.

Anyway, all's well that ends well. (Although, would you really tell us if the dog wasn't OK? Shock I really hope she IS OK!)

Also I HAVE to re-post this, because 😆I almost pissed myself laughing!

@AdventFridgeOfShame · Yesterday 21:45

Give your dog water now and phone the vet if your dogs weighs less than 100kg.

A 100kg dog. OMFG! Shock 😂 Most humans don't weigh this! Grin

PurpleButterflyWings · 21/02/2023 10:30

@Sixgeese

A few of you are making me paranoid, doesn't everyone eat crumpets with a knife and fork or have I bring doing it wrong all these years!

@LadyChatterlysLover

Nobody eats crumpets with a knife and fork. Except you, and maybe the late queen! Do you also eat burgers with a knife and fork?

I actually do know someone who eats crumpets (and other things you would typically eat with your hands,) with a knife and fork. Although it is usually when they are at home and not in public... Mainly because in public, they are not given a knife and fork for a fucking crumpet!

They also eat donuts and other cakes, naan bread, and burgers, with a knife and fork ...

They also eat pizza with a knife and fork, even when it's been cut into 4, 6, or 8 pieces for them. Utterly batshit I agree! Especially as with the naan bread and pizza, they really struggle to cut it with their knife and fork, and sometimes struggle so much that the food flies off the plate...! Just pick it up and eat it with your fingers/hands like normal people FFS! 😜

Mothership4two · 21/02/2023 10:42

I eat pizza with a knife and fork - that's not normal? And some cakes with a fork. Basically if I am going to get food all over my fingers I'll use cutlery. But a crumpet? Nooo

No! It's NOT normal to eat cakes and pizza with a knife and fork! 😆

I hate marmite

And dogs

And both my (thankfully now dead) grandmothers

Do I win some sort of prize?

Depends. Do you use a fork to eat crumpets?

💀 ask OPs husband! He might do it for you when he's finished the dog off 😉
