DH gave the dog marmite

UnluckyPennsatucky · 20/02/2023 21:40

DH gave the dog a tablespoon of marmite as he was told it helps them settle. Now her belly is making weird noises and she’s crying etc hours later

DH thinks it’s a coincidence, I think it could be the marmite

Google has mixed opinions as to whether dogs can eat marmite

No! It's NOT normal to eat cakes and pizza with a knife and fork! 😆

It's perfectly normal to eat cake with a fork. That's why there are cake forks!

Not even sure what this thread is about anymore 😂

My thoughts on it all!

  1. Definitely can eat cakes with forks as like SoupDragon says cake forks exist.
  1. Crumpets and pizza with your fingers, except in a restaurant when pizza with cutlery is acceptable.
  1. There aren't many dogs that are over 100kg,there are a couple of mastiff breeds listed as top end being 100kg but really that's like saying there are loads of people over 6ft7, there really aren't.
  1. Dogs are better than people mostly IMO but don't feed them stuff they are not supposed to have, the Internet is really helpful if you want to check.
Mothership4two · 21/02/2023 12:10

DH was told off when he first joined the military for not using a knife and fork to eat a banana!

kateandme · 21/02/2023 05:55

oh @AlmostSpring2023 your missing the biggest trick of all.you get yourself to cosco and get the tubs.you can get a spade in them 😉

@kateandme

thank you for the heads up.

sadly I have to low carb (diabetic) if I don't want to take medication (I don't) so a normal jar of marmite lasts me forever these days. (No toast, crackers, crumpets, 😭) I do have it on lettuce, occasionally as a hot drink, but there's not many other ways to eat it!! (Vegetarian too).

AlmostSpring2023 · 21/02/2023 12:15

@UnluckyPennsatucky

im pleased your dog is ok this morning, I'm not sure how DH is though?!?! Idiot.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 21/02/2023 12:29

Fuck me this thread Grin

I think I'll stick to the Litter Tray for all animal related MN discussions. Pictures of cute kittens versus comments like "How about us catching and shooting you?" There's definitely cat people and dog people Wink

Although if anyone does have a 100kg dog that needs catching and disposing of, I believe there is a MN Cat Legend who could deal with that for you.

Anyway I'm off to eat a crumpet with a fork. (Can't wait to tell my DH and DC about this as they mock me for eating fruit with a fork).

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 21/02/2023 12:32

Out of interest @Sixgeese what type of fork do you use for crumpets? Just a normal "knife and fork" fork, or a cake fork? The latter is more understandable I suppose. No hope for you if it's just a fork fork though, you're just a fucking weirdo Grin

Astralitzia · 21/02/2023 12:35

Blimey this thread is bonkers.

He didn't abuse the dog for Christ's sake, he did a bloody stupid thing but if that was a hanging offence there'd be very little of the population left.

Eat your crumpets however you please.

Off topic OP and apologies.
I regularly make a tablespoon of marmite in boiling water as a b12 drink or soup, like Bovril used to be? Is this as awful as people are saying ' a human couldn't eat a spoonful'

I regularly eat spoonfuls and am still alive and well

motleymop · 21/02/2023 13:46

I am just catching up with this thread again - I am actually crying!! Bloody brilliant - absolute gold 😂😂

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 21/02/2023 13:54

Crumpets are a finger food unless covered in too much melted cheese. You wouldn't eat toast and jam - or a croissant - with a knife and fork, would you?

Cake should be eaten with a fork. But not a knife and fork. A spoon is acceptable if the cake is served with a particularly large puddle of cream.

Etiquette guides say you should eat fruit with a knife and fork, but this is Victorian silliness and should be ignored.

Pizza is a judgement call. I have a set of Italian cutlery with knives specially designed for pizza, bit would use fingers in nost circumstances.

My late Dad kept a little fruit knife in his pocket, and i'll swear to this day that fruit, cut directly with a knife and eaten off the knife, tastes better than biting into it.

I mean like bloody donuts and eccles cakes and sticky buns etc. No fucker eats THEM with a fork. A SLICE of cake would be eaten with a fork, possibly, but not individual cakes - (unless they are cream cakes possibly.)

Well, donuts aren't cake and nor are buns. Eccles "cakes" aren't really cake either.

Of course they are cakes! 😂 You can't just make stuff up to try and prove yourself right. 😂 And you can't change what I said either (to try and make yourself more 'right.') I said sticky buns - not 'buns.' Behave yourself!!! Wink

PurpleButterflyWings · 21/02/2023 17:03

@SoupDragon You are taking this waaaaay too seriously! 😂

A sticky bun is clearly a bun.
a donut is a donut, not a cake. They're fried dough.
An Eccles cake is basically a pie given it's filling in pastry.

that's not making stuff up it's fact.

as for taking it far too seriously - you total hypocrite 😂😂🤣

<<places Jaffa cake to incite a riot>>

Sorry, I know this is contributing to the derail... but 100kg is the best part of 16 stone!

Yhat's MSSIVE!

DD's great dane was 14 stones and he was HUGE!

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/02/2023 17:15

Bliddy heck!

What did I do when I typed that? 😦

PurpleButterflyWings · 21/02/2023 17:15

FFS @SoupDragon it's a lighthearted thread. Get a grip, and grow up! 😆

You might want to go here.......

www.mumsnet.com/talk/pedants_corner

Whether a donut is a cake or not, who cares? You have waaaay too much time on your hands. 😆 I will leave you to it. Go argue with someone else. I CBA with ya!!!

pigsDOfly · 21/02/2023 17:15

So you'd want the St Bernard's and Newfoundlands that are working dogs involved in rescue shot.

Apart from the fact that it was meant as a joke, are you seriously claiming that these dogs weigh over 100kg. That's around 15.5 stone.

I find that hard to believe.

Xol · 21/02/2023 17:23

When I went to a boarding school for Young Ladies we were taught to eat bananas and apples with a knife. Basically you'd cut the end of the banana peel off, then peel it normally, then cut it up into smallish slices to eat individually. For apples, you'd cut them in four and then cut out the core and just eat the quarters. I do still tend to prefer apples that way just because it's less messy, but I've definitely reverted to non-ladylike ways with bananas.

I had a friend at uni who would come to lunch with a big fuck off knife for cutting an apple. It seemed very attention seeking.

If there are any dogs that weigh more than 100kg, I want them caught and shot now.
