DH gave the dog marmite

UnluckyPennsatucky · 20/02/2023 21:40

DH gave the dog a tablespoon of marmite as he was told it helps them settle. Now her belly is making weird noises and she’s crying etc hours later

DH thinks it’s a coincidence, I think it could be the marmite

Google has mixed opinions as to whether dogs can eat marmite

A few of you are making me paranoid, doesn't everyone eat crumpets with a knife and fork or have I bring doing it wrong all these years!

Anyone else fancy marmite on toast now 🤔

So you'd want the St Bernard's and Newfoundlands that are working dogs involved in rescue shot. I truly hope no rescue dog wastes its time ever trying to rescue you.

There are no Newfies weighing in at 100kg in this world, trust me I own the breed over 20 years now, and the top weight is usually 60 - 70 kg, St B's maybe up to 80 kg, so I think they are safe from being shot. Very thankful about that I am too

The dog eating the marmite was bad enough, but eating crumpets with a knife and fork?! Wow!! 😀

Hmm, I have crumpets in the fridge, I have Vegemite, I think my mid morning snack is all sorted.... defo leaving the knife and fork behind though... (Vegemite is infinitely superior to marmite!) <runs and hides>

sianiboo · 21/02/2023 00:40

I hate marmite

And dogs

And both my (thankfully now dead) grandmothers

Do I win some sort of prize?

I think if you've phoned the emergency vet, hopefully dog will be fine. They'll have worked out the amount given, and the weight of your dog.

My little shit beautiful boy ate a very toxic medication, thanks to my dickhead naive DP allowing him to have the run of the house.

I contacted our vets and they were pretty clear that dog needed to be there NOW. Fortunately he's fine, and as much as I love DP and didn't fire two fucks into him (he was absolutely beside himself), I really had to bite my tongue at the time 🤣.

Well, don't think I could eat a 100kg dog if that's any help

MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 21/02/2023 00:55

This thread has taken some very weird turns.
The mental marmite idea.
Setting fire to your nan.
That dog's giant scrotum.
And just when you think you've heard it all.. cutlery for crumpets.

Hope your dog's ok OP.

MissFlitworth · 21/02/2023 00:59

On the topic of upset tums in dogs, we've discovered that canned pumpkin (not pie filling with added spices) works well (pet store sells cans). But please look it up before you try it for amounts etc. I just put a tsp in with the dry food for my big boys (85 and 90lbs), it has stopped the former probs with loose stool and upset stomaches.

MakingTheVeganYorkshirePud · 21/02/2023 00:59

And to the dirty gets who drop banana skins on the floor, that can be extremely dangerous to dogs. Not because they are poisonous, but because they are hard to break down and can cause obstruction in the bowel. That was something I did have to phone the emergency vets for.

Hahahaha. I love this thread. Completely bonkers. And yes dear pp, you are the only person that eats crumpets with cutlery. I kind of love it though. It's like Seinfeld where George ate his snickers with cutlery. You could start a trend!

Theunamedcat · 21/02/2023 01:40

Actually gluten free crumpets are a bit prone to falling apart perhaps cutlery is a good idea for gluten free people?

In the fridge? I've never kept crumpets in the fridge.
Or eaten them with a knife and fork.

Bansheed · 21/02/2023 02:17

Meh, vegemite flirts, Marmite delivers.

transformandriseup · 21/02/2023 02:27

Another who is wondering if it was a teaspoon and not a tablespoon.

One, would a tablespoon fit in the jar and Two, marmite is expensive so I couldn't imagine anyone using a whole tablespoon at once.

I hope the dog is ok though.

You could MN the fuck out of a 100kg dog though.

Aaahh! I did not know this. Perhaps that explains our cutlery crumpet eater.

My friends dog died from getting into a Christmas cake. All very sad. I’m really careful within dog around those kind of things, but fortunately he’s not especially food driven.
DH gave him a lump of pizza crust once, complete with a piece of Dominoes Tandoori Chicken. As I predicted he had the screaming shits the day after, which I refused to clean up. DH now knows not to feed the dog random crap.
