DH gave the dog marmite

DH gave the dog a tablespoon of marmite as he was told it helps them settle. Now her belly is making weird noises and she’s crying etc hours later

DH thinks it’s a coincidence, I think it could be the marmite

Google has mixed opinions as to whether dogs can eat marmite

So you'd want the St Bernard's and Newfoundlands that are working dogs involved in rescue shot.

Apart from the fact that it was meant as a joke, are you seriously claiming that these dogs weigh over 100kg. That's around 15.5 stone.

I find that hard to believe.

Leonbergers can reach 12 stone so I’m guessing there are some dogs out there that would reach 15 stone - probably overweight like but still

Our collies seem to exist on a diet of shit and placenta during lambing season. How do they survive?

I think you're thinking of pounds, not kilos.

Nope, i mean kilos. In fact the largest mastiff recorded was 127 kilos. Google it.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 21/02/2023 18:34

To add my dog weighs 150 lbs and he isnt a giant breed, just very big for his breed,he has a lovely slim waist too.

TimeToFlyNow · 21/02/2023 19:35

Actually thinking about it expil had a rottie that was getting on for 16 stone. The vet said he'd never seen one so big

But do they eat it with a fork?

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 21/02/2023 20:15

Fruit absolutely should be eaten with a fruit fork and I stand by that. (Fruit salad style sort of fruit).

DH cores and cuts an apple all in one with a sort of contraption with a metal grid thing that you press down onto the apple. It's very satisfying to watch, so I'll forgive him for calling me a knobhead about the fruit forks.

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/02/2023 21:45

If there are any dogs that weigh more than 100kg, I want them caught and shot now.

NoooooooOOOOOOoooooooo!

Not Clifford! 😦

My mum's spaniel ate the Christmas cakes just after I soaked them in brandy she was absolutely pissed on expensive alcohol the vet said to rouse her occasionally and let her out frequently they could hear the snores over the phone she was shitting for England looking hungover the following day I would like to say she learned her lesson but no....not at all

We've got cockers, too.

The bitch is the greediest dog I've ever encountered (and we've had bull terriers and I thought they were bad!)..

She eats her dinner at a rte of knots, then rushes to grab as much as she can from the other dogs' dinners, and anything she can get from the cat bowls (cats are fed up a height, but she leaps up and grabs anything that's been pushed near the edge of the bench). Anything she can find (or catch) she will scoff. Including socks and mice. (Socks constipate her, mice work the other way).

She looks incredibly dainty but you can barely lift her - she's absolutely solid!

Clearly most of you lot didn’t spend every Christmas Day for about 6 years from the mid seventies subjected to Digby The Biggest Dog in the world. Made Clifford look lightweight. Literally 😂

@kateandme

thank you for the heads up.

sadly I have to low carb (diabetic) if I don't want to take medication (I don't) so a normal jar of marmite lasts me forever these days. (No toast, crackers, crumpets, 😭) I do have it on lettuce, occasionally as a hot drink, but there's not many other ways to eat it!! (Vegetarian too).

adds great flavour to gravy.just a tspn.
have you tried nigellas marmite pasta.again just a tspn.
tbf those tubs from cosco last us a lifetime so for the size and cost its pretty great.
cheese and marmite pastry straws
cheese and marmite toasties
hehe we have marmite lovers here.

I don’t think pasta, pastry or toasties count as low carb 😆

Oh bugger off 😁😄
I scope over low carb.it hurts my soul☺️
Can you not have it occasionally as part of a balance?
Sorry about that.i didn't quite mean to push every white carb in your face.
My gm is diabetic and still can though so I wasn't purposely being cruel I promise.

What is your point? I am not claiming that my dog is 100 kgs, . Mine is not even classed as a giant dog, but thanks! Very helpful.

Well what was your point? The discussion was about 100kg dogs so thanks! Very helpful you don't have a 100kg dog.

To add my cat is 6kg and has a lovely slim waist. Pointless

Moversnotshakers · 22/02/2023 18:39

My cat demands a tiny corner piece of toast and marmite if im having it. She licks the marmite and butter but leaves the crust .. she loves it.

Have you got a husband? Careful he doesn't divorce you for trying to murder the cat with marmite. Unless the cat is 100kg obvs.

LakieLady · 22/02/2023 19:16

So glad your DDog is ok, OP.

My first dog loved Marmite, and I didn't know about salt being bad for them, so he had toast and Marmite nearly every morning of his life.

He lived to be a few months over 17, and in surprisingly good nick until his last couple of weeks.
