DH gave the dog marmite

DH gave the dog a tablespoon of marmite as he was told it helps them settle. Now her belly is making weird noises and she’s crying etc hours later

DH thinks it’s a coincidence, I think it could be the marmite

Google has mixed opinions as to whether dogs can eat marmite

Agree with other posters. Seek veterinary help. There is far too much salt in a tablespoon of marmite for a dog.

I had half a tea spoon of marmite for a dare. Two cans of sprite later I was still feeling thirsty.

Please come back to the thread. I'm hoping it's not real so I'd appreciate you confirming that or that your dog has received medical treatment.

Animal cruelty isn't funny and it's not acceptable on Mumsnet.

Call a vet.

See if you can have your idiot DH pts.

Bit much really. Yep, he's an idiot but it's a bit of a sick joke to be honest.

Who on earth is laughing? 🙄

I’ve called the out of hours vet, they have said to keep her hydrated and keep an eye on her

Our 8kg dog regularly licks the butter knife we use to spread marmite and she’s fine (and loves it)… but it is a lot less that a tablespoon…

BlackbeardsToast · 20/02/2023 22:11

1.5G salt in a tablespoon of marmite. That is way lower than than the lowest level of advised salt toxicity level per kg of dog weight (2g per kg). Symptoms of salt reaction are not expected until about 0.5g per kg.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 20/02/2023 22:11

I can't think of a 100kg dog either, but that is the sort of size that could cope with that much marmite.

Lots of water and keep an eye on her. Long term kidney damage, who knows. I have no idea how you get through to your DH what a fucking prat he is. Would he eat a tablespoon of marmite? Feed him one and see how it goes.

If there are any dogs that weigh more than 100kg, I want them caught and shot now.

🤣

AdventFridgeOfShame · 20/02/2023 21:45

Give your dog water now and phone the vet if your dogs weighs less than 100kg.

They don't do salt like we do.

If it's over a 100kg you could ride it to the vets.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 20/02/2023 22:12

Our dogs always finished any left over toast and marmite but that is ridiculous.

Tell your husband to eat a tablespoon of marmite if it's so good for you.

My cat and my dog love a bit of marmite on buttered toast.
Only a few slithers mind.

So you'd want the St Bernard's and Newfoundlands that are working dogs involved in rescue shot. I truly hope no rescue dog wastes its time ever trying to rescue you.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 20/02/2023 22:17

I have scales, I have marmite. No nicely flattened spoons here, I'm going man style. How many g do we reckon?

Comeonbarbiebrianharvey · 20/02/2023 22:18

My dog used to eat my marmite toast crusts, and I remember on occasion he nicking and gorging on a bag of crisps, probably a lot more salt. He lived to 17, hardy breed though. As long as your vets not worried and he's got water it ll be OK. I'd like a spoon. Of marmite, but I don't think a dog would.

Neither StBs or Newfoundland's are likely to weigh over 100kg. Calm down

Accidentally giving your dog something you though was safe does not make you an animal abuser.

Where are all the sensible people tonight?

1 tablespoon isn’t likely to have an effect on a 30kg dog.
I wouldn’t do it again though.

(St Bernard’s don’t weigh 100kg)
