DH gave the dog marmite

UnluckyPennsatucky · 20/02/2023 21:40

DH gave the dog a tablespoon of marmite as he was told it helps them settle. Now her belly is making weird noises and she’s crying etc hours later

DH thinks it’s a coincidence, I think it could be the marmite

Google has mixed opinions as to whether dogs can eat marmite

The dog isn't even dead Confused

I know, read the post I quoted.

Newnamefor23 · 20/02/2023 23:33

One of our cats loved it. He could smell an open jar from a room away. It was like cat-nip to him.

Off topic OP and apologies.
I regularly make a tablespoon of marmite in boiling water as a b12 drink or soup, like Bovril used to be? Is this as awful as people are saying ' a human couldn't eat a spoonful'

Could you eat it without adding the boiling water?

Dog people are absolutely mental 🤣 they'd be less irate if you'd set fire to someone's nan and done a ceremonial dance.

😂😂😂 Wow some of these answers are completely bat shit. Dumb thing to do, you may have to deal with the consequences of a dog with a very upset stomach. Keep an eye on her and phone the vet again if you’re worried. Hope the dog is feeling better tomorrow…when our dog is suffering an upset stomach from eating something unmentionable in the park we give her ice chips to rehydrate.

While I would never give DDog a tablespoon of marmite, he has been known to steal the plate that I am eating marmite crumpets off and licks any remaining dregs of marmite off it.

I think he likes the taste as while he lets me finish the crumpet as soon as the last bite is on the fork, his head comes up and he grabs and runs off with the plate.

I on the other hand, do occasionally eat marmite by the spoonful, it is yummy!!

Fork??????

I know you know that. I was commenting on the people having histrionics.

My DMs old cat would be literally in your face trying to steal Marmite on toast as you were eating it. I love Marmite on toast and either ate it standing up or waited until I got into work.

I caught one of our cats putting his paw in the jar and licking it!

For those asking I could probably eat a spoonful of marmite. I love the stuff.

Hiphopopotamus · 20/02/2023 23:42

Bloody hell some people are fecking loony over dogs. I’d love to know how many would still happily tuck in to a bacon sandwich made of an animal far more intelligent than old Rover sitting at your feet, but think it’s totally rational to suggest divorce over a mistake here. Insanity.

user1477391263 · 20/02/2023 23:48

OMG, this thread is giving me flashbacks to those threads during the “heat wave” of 2022. People leaping about, shouting that anyone who let a dog put a toe out of the house over the hottest days was going to cause the animal to spontaneously implode. Accusing people of being dog abusers who were going to kill their pet because they were going to take them for a stroll in shady areas in the cooler parts of the day. People trying to drape packets of frozen peas over their cats, only to find that the cats themselves just stalked away in a huff, and went and found the hottest place on the patio to lie down sunning themselves…

Most standard-issue dogs are as tough as old boots because they are the ancestors of creatures that roamed around human settlements eating human garbage, leftovers and feces; an inappropriate food item now and again is not going to kill them. I am sure tiny dogs and dogs bred to have stupid physical characteristics are more fragile, but my opinion on those animals is that people shouldn’t own or breed dogs that are doomed to spend their lives having endless health problems….

Crumpetdisappointment · 20/02/2023 23:49

i'd give her some cheese to dilute it
how come she ate it?

dont forget the ceremonial dance for the burnt nan Wink

Fork??????

Thank you! I'm glad someone else noticed the fork.

FictionalCharacter · 20/02/2023 23:56

Stupid, stupid man. And everyone who's laughing their socks off going "the dog isn't even dead haha, calm down dear" can fuck off. Did you all miss the bit that the dog's crying hours later, or is that funny too?

bonzaitree · 20/02/2023 23:58

I think the dog will probs be fine. Although your DH is a very strange man. I’d defo be letting him deal with any poop related consequences haha.

A family dog one ate a whole large Christmas cake and the decorations on top. He was a bit cylindrical for a few days but essentially fine.

Theunamedcat · 20/02/2023 23:58

Your dog is going to get the absolute shits
Make him clean it up

My mum's spaniel ate the Christmas cakes just after I soaked them in brandy she was absolutely pissed on expensive alcohol the vet said to rouse her occasionally and let her out frequently they could hear the snores over the phone she was shitting for England looking hungover the following day I would like to say she learned her lesson but no....not at all

She sounds like me- I never learn either! 😂

Theunamedcat · 21/02/2023 00:05

Also you can give your dog rennies which might ease the stomach

ladydimitrescu · 21/02/2023 00:07

He didn't try kill the dog ffs - he's just clearly a bit of a muppet. Giving the dog some marmite isn't attempted murder for Christ's sake. Some of you lot need to calm down a bit, you'll do your blood pressure no good.

EyesOnThePies · 21/02/2023 00:10

The link posted above, written by a vet, says
“You should never feed your dog more than about half a teaspoon at the very most, and even that will be too much for a small or toy-sized dog like a Jack Russell Terrier”

This is so true.

Mine once ate 2 big packets of bourbons. I'm sure the cat swiped them off the kitchen top for him. Wouldn't be surprised if the cat was aiming at killing the dog though

Teaandtoast3 · 21/02/2023 00:11

crikey… where did your husband hear that? I hope the dogs okay OP

Thekirit · 21/02/2023 00:12

Mine loves carrots dipped in marmite
But he doesnt have much marmite.
Or cats love it too

Let us know how he gets on with lots of water
🤞

Sixgeese · 21/02/2023 00:15

A few of you are making me paranoid, doesn't everyone eat crumpets with a knife and fork or have I bring doing it wrong all these years!
