School toast

Today I forgot to pay my 6 year olds toast money which they have at morning break. They gave every single child a slice of toast besides my daughter.

I have never forgotten before. Could they not have just put a note in her book bag as a reminder? Or sent a text.

You pay online for the term so I have paid it now (20p per day) including todays… even though she didn’t get any.

Should primary schools be more understanding? It’s not the child’s fault, it was mine.

Is it fair to single them out ? Toast for you, toast for you, NO toast for you , toast for you….

They probably get people habitually forgetting to pay. This is your fault, not the schools.

TokyoSushi · 20/02/2023 14:13

I received a letter from school, all stapled up, red writing, TO THE PARENT OF TOKYOSUSHI JR, I was in 40p debt on the toast account! 🙄

Fairycake89 · 20/02/2023 14:14

As above I said it was my fault (obviously) and I hold my hand up.

i just couldn’t single a child out over 20p.

Haha! Better not get the debt collectors on you! X

If you pay on time every other term then yes, they could have just given her the toast today.

PuttingDownRoots · 20/02/2023 14:15

Even DDs secondary school is more forgiving than that!

A couple of days Grace would be expected.

Clymene · 20/02/2023 14:16

If you pay termly, that's crazy. Are you now in 20p of toast credit?

Chat2224 · 20/02/2023 14:17

Hilarious that people are saying it's your fault so what do you expect. If I worked at the school, I'd have eye rolled at you not paying but for the price of single slice of toast, I wouldn't let a child feel excluded like that. It's so bizarre.

ComtesseDeSpair · 20/02/2023 14:18

Is the arrangement that if your child wants toast then you pay for toast and it’s assumed that if you haven’t then they don’t want toast / have brought their own alternative snack? Would make sense that they don’t just give out toast to everyone including those for whom non payment may mean that toast isn’t wanted.

I have never missed a payment , even for my older child. X

Maybe prevent it from happening by giving the school a tenner whenever you think of it, so you're massively in credit. I know you weren't asking for tips...

I know! It’s not a daily thing. You would think I’d be in credit but nope! Paid for fresh air x

You pay it online on parent pay. I’d pay it for the year if I could but it’s £6 a term only. I just forgot to pay this morning for this term x

Term started in January though? So if you've only just paid, the school has already been pretty patient.

Miscellaneousme · 20/02/2023 14:24

This is rubbish! Can’t get over the fact that it’s 20p per day for a slice of toast!

I was shocked! Head teacher sees no wrong. X

It probably took more than 20pence worth of labour to check that everybody had paid. I work in a school office and wouldn't have time to check this on day 1 return after half term! You'd get at least a couple of days grace here.

They went back today?!

If you pay termly they probably assumed you'd opted out as it's the start of a new term.

I thought this. She said they get a daily list from parent pay? X

They let a child go without breakfast over 20p!!

Yes, I'm sure most of us could've visualised how it might have happened OP 😂

As it was the start of term, perhaps they thought you'd decided not to participate anymore?

Yep…20p that I’ve still had to pay even though she never received it haha x

Oh wow. Never heard of school toast 😂 love the idea. Better than watery carrot sticks and manky oranges

Runworkeatsleeprepeat · 20/02/2023 14:29

Someone has to run the list! It's not automatic so definitely not a job on my priority list the day back after half term. They've obviously not lost any office staff lately and not replaced them!
