To not understand this day?
Why do all the men rush into supermarket s buying cards and flowers. But most of look like they are miserable as hell..
Yes I'm single but I don't really get why Valentines day exists?

What I don’t understand more is single people celebrating Valentine’s Day 🤦🏻

Ha I wasn't sure if I should buy myself a card.
It seems so fake in the shops. Rubbish gifts.

Imo its the worst of all the special days. I don't like Halloween but that's more interesting.

Popped into M&S this morning bought steak and all the trimmings. Will lay up the table with candles etc Tomo night. Have bought a card. I usually get a card and flowers. It's a way to appreciate each other. We've been married 46 years.

follyfoot37 · 13/02/2023 23:44

Men do this to avoid some MNs starting threads bemoaning the fact that their OH hasn't bought them a card. Which of course proves they are no longer loved and/or are taken for granted

CandleInTheStorm · 13/02/2023 23:46

I've bought myself a rose... to celebrate myself!

To be honest the valentines of the past where I've been in relationships usually consisted of me doing the runaround to buy/prepare a nice meal whilst he just walked in with a last minute card and it all felt a waste of time on my part.

I might prepare a nice meal for myself tomorrow with my cats... I'll probably get more satisfaction and at least I can also guarantee an orgasm with my vibrator at the end of the night! 🤣🤣

CarpetSlipper · 13/02/2023 23:47

I’m not single and I can’t be arsed with it. I use it as an excuse to by a nice box of chocolates to share but no cards etc.

Tireddoggymum · 13/02/2023 23:50

I am going out tomorrow for lunch with my friend! We are both married but can’t be arsed with Valentine’s Day …it’s just makes money for big commercial companies.

Aquarius1234 · 13/02/2023 23:52

Mmm right yeh why is it always one person cooking and the other not.
I'd prefer to go out for dinner or takeaway.

But seriously it's not a bank holiday. Its a normal day of the week. Am I supposed to act differently or something. Or not leave the house as its valentines and I'm single.

I've got to go somewhere tomorrow. Should I feel embarrassed seeing lots of people about being all loved up..

Is this the first Valentine's Day you've ever experienced?

Libre2 · 13/02/2023 23:55

It’s a really weird day - I don’t get it at all.
Married 20 years fwiw and never celebrated it.

Aquarius1234 · 13/02/2023 23:55

I'm just saying it's completely stupid.

They don't.

Aquarius1234 · 13/02/2023 23:58

There's a thing about meeting someone on valentines day even tho it's not a date and no intention of one.
So imo it ruins a normal evening of potentially going out or doing something with a friend or relatives.

Just by coincidence I've gone to meet up with someone on valentines and been given a rose or something and felt awkward. As imo I didn't want to care that it was valentines.

It just happened to be a Friday or Saturday and the 14th of February.
Never again I thought.

They were at 5 30pm earlier near me.
Funny how you also see scruffy men that probably I'm guessing never go into supermarkets regularly . 🙄
I had no idea it would be so busy... Will avoid in future.

I thought Valentines day was to let someone you like know that not someone you’re with but maybe I’m wrong

Zola1 · 14/02/2023 00:05

If you hate it so much just stay in?

Same. It was fun as an adolescent as you got to find out who was crushing on who. I can’t think of anything tackier than celebrating Valentine’s Day as an adult

I think men do this because of the societal pressure, which is also why people in general may feel sad when they're single on Valentine's day or they don't get as much attention/gifts from their DPs as the society made them think they should get. I don't really get the fuss about it, the day itself is fun when you're in your teens, but then it's just another Hallmark holiday and maybe an excuse to do funny smartshow 3d slideshows of your goofy selfies with your partner😂

Firstshoes · 14/02/2023 05:37

I came downstairs for my morning coffee feeling pretty grumpy this morning. DH had left me a lovely card with a lovely thoughtful little gift and it made me smile! Not much money spent but meant a lot to me. We are both cooking ourselves a nice meal with a glass of wine tonight. Together 35 years but I still like to use the day to have a nice time together.

Mincedpies · 14/02/2023 07:01

To me, Valentines Day is a bit of fun for kids - I remember enjoying it in my teens, giving cards to my not so secret crushes and hoping for them back! I do find it a bit cringe when adults celebrate it, I just think it’s embarrassing for them, really (I’ve been very happily married for 25 years).

That said, that’s MY opinion and thank goodness I don’t get to make the rules, it would be boring if we were all the same!

That must be dreadful for you, one day out of 365!
