To not understand this day?
Why do all the men rush into supermarket s buying cards and flowers. But most of look like they are miserable as hell..
Yes I'm single but I don't really get why Valentines day exists?

They don't.

True. Some use petrol stations.

How is it showing off? My DH bought me some lovely flowers yesterday, sketched me a card and took me out for dinner on Sunday night as he is away with work today but nobody knows any of this outside the house. I felt a bit bad as I hadn't sorted the card etc. prior to him going away but he's not bothered and thinks it is more something men make an effort for for women. However, despite this, I will still give him a card and probably a present. We have been married for 8 years but been together for 17 and we don't think it means we can't buy flowers at other points of the year. My DH does buy flowers for me randomly so it is not that he needs a set date.

@GoodLuckJKR in another post someone is saying how lazy men are to use interflora?

Honestly, all men should hone grow the flowers they give.

What I don’t understand more is single people celebrating Valentine’s Day 🤦🏻

People really do this? In what way? Cook themselves a nice meal and buy themselves a gift? How odd

IndiaDreamer · 15/02/2023 06:55

Because some people show off and are smug about it. Don't know why they need to prove themselves.

So you're actually just jealous? It's not that you don't understand it?

Aquarius1234 · 13/02/2023 23:52

Mmm right yeh why is it always one person cooking and the other not.
I'd prefer to go out for dinner or takeaway.

But seriously it's not a bank holiday. Its a normal day of the week. Am I supposed to act differently or something. Or not leave the house as its valentines and I'm single.

I think you can probably just ignore if you don't like it. Like most people do if it's not their thing. Not worth all the negativity

MoggyMittens23 · 14/02/2023 11:20

Are people threatened by it in some way? Because if you really, really didn't care then you wouldn't come on these threads and slag it off left right and centre? So, I think there's a bit 'doth protest too much' going on

Billion percent this. Makes me feel bad for them. Imagine feeling that much negativity about people having a nice day

Mojoyoyo · 15/02/2023 07:09

My DP don’t do cards or presents as we think that side of Valentines is a bit over commercialised but we had a lovely day.

We live an hour apart so he visited. We went on a beautiful long country walk, ended up back in town where we had lunch and finished off with some shopping and a trawl / rummage around the local charity shops.

To us it’s a reason to celebrate our relationship, being together and doing stuff we enjoy but in a low key way.

soundsystem · 14/02/2023 12:05

Ha yeah I don't get it either. DH and I fling cards at each other in the morning rush and then get on with our day!

Why bother if you don't get it tho? Seems ridiculous to be too cool to care but actually go and get a card to fling at your husband in your ever so too busy to care life 😂

CanofCant · 15/02/2023 08:55

OP, you sound like an incel.

gold22 · 15/02/2023 10:54

It's not that deep 🤷🏻‍♀️ just another marked day in the year which you can either join in with or not- same as Halloween, do you turn the lights out and never trick or treated?

How about bonfire night, have you ever had fireworks or been to a display?

Christmas/Easter? Are you religious and celebrate the "true meaning" or do you conform to the commercialised Christmas celebrations/Easter eggs, how about shrove Tuesday, have you ever had pancakes?

Some people like these days or like some of them and some people don't like any at all- there's nothing else to understand
