...the UK is becoming? The scenes in Liverpool were shocking and I fear this is just the beginning.

^^ and if it’s true that the people attacked the hotel because some of those refugees were bothering young girls then it’s bloody shameful that the journalists haven’t put that in the articles.

When the op starts whipping out the sheep and rolling around laughing emojis, you know you're in for some quality debate

🤣

He isn't the only one. There have been three substantiated incidents of underage girls being approached and men hanging around school routes. There was two hanging around a playing field/pond approaching children. There's been no police/authority reaction to this.

Why not protest outside the police station?

HeddaGarbled · 11/02/2023 23:16

I grew up in the era of Skinheads, ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ and then “Get on your bike” and the demonisation of unmarried mothers. I don’t think the U.K. is “becoming” right wing.

ElliF · 11/02/2023 23:17

Echobelly
So RW parties are going all in for the culture wars ....

Wait. Isn’t the whole cancel culture, silencing and woke agenda thing culture wars. Culture wars is a Leftist thing not a Right Wing thing.

ElliF · 11/02/2023 23:19

RedHelenB · 11/02/2023 23:15

Why not protest outside the police station?

Maybe because the perpetrator was not a policeman but an asylum seeker? Just guessing.

The Tories have wanted the UK to be like America for a long time, they're sure getting there.

You're mean like a successful economy the welcomes immigrants within the law?

Why would they? People don’t care about the truth. They just want their confirmation biases reaffirmed. You only need to react this thread to see how ignorant many posters are. They don’t give a F. They just want to spout off about their politics.

QueueEtwo · 11/02/2023 23:55

Because I don't think anyone is sure that's true!
From the BBC Website.

Police confirmed they had been investigating reports that "a man made inappropriate advances toward a teenage girl" in Kirkby on Monday.
No victim had been initially identified and a man in his 20s was arrested on Thursday in another part of the country on suspicion of a public order offence, Chief Constable Kennedy said.
He was released with no further action following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
The investigation was "ongoing" and Chief Constable Kennedy appealed for anyone with information to contact the police.
"Social media speculation, misinformation and rumour can actually damage the outcome of investigations and cause unnecessary fear and consequent behaviour, so I would continue to ask people to be mindful of the damage that such actions can cause."

QueueEtwo · 11/02/2023 23:58

And I'm not sure it isn't true! Just that it might have posted to sir up hatred!

So basically it's got to be: keep your gobs shut about your abuse, girls, qnd let it be your little secret - telling someone about it might stir up hatred towards your poor attacker and you wouldn't want that would you?

LexMitior · 12/02/2023 00:26

The U.K. is a right wing country. What made you think otherwise?

It's just a lot poorer than it used to be and so the racism comes out into the open again.

Incidentally, the extreme right vote goes down when the Conservatives are in power. So don't imagine it's suddenly going to get more liberal or tolerant if that changes.

Yes, this.

@TooBigForMyBoots Keep burying your head in the sand & making up false assumptions after being given the facts. Are you sure you’re not the media.

I am not burying my head in the sand. A mob turned up outside a hotel. Then a group of thugs turned up and started a riot. A 15yo child was arrested. Not all those who groom children are asylum seekers.Hmm

This is not normal. It is not indicative of a safe, stable country. I will not ignore it or bury my head in the sand because it makes right wing posters feel uncomfortable.

To the PP who said the news were not reporting what happened to the 15yo girl: I have watched the coverage on different channels and all of them mentioned it.

It's a return to an older U.K, but not a totally strange one.

Petrol used to go through letter boxes 50 years ago. The National Front was a real thing. This has always been with us.

Futurethoughts · 12/02/2023 04:16

It is normal, and to an extent inevitable, that a large group of people will attract troublemakers, no matter how good the original intentions might have been.

Sexual violence is not limited to men from a particular culture: an arbitrary glance at recent uk news shows this. But certain cultures - and it is the cultures, rather than the race - do have beliefs and values inherent to them which do not align comfortably with ours.

If we maintain the belief that was prevalent until fairly recently, that racism is somehow worse than any other ‘isn’t, then that isn’t indicative of a shift to the far right but of a shift back to pre Rochdale, and I can’t think of anyone who would see that as a positive.

Hups · 12/02/2023 04:46

What worries me is that these protests will become more widespread and more violent over time.

tirednewmumm · 12/02/2023 06:42

florenceandthemac · 11/02/2023 21:00

The people of Liverpool/Knowsley weren't protesting about the asylum seekers just being housed there. It was due to the number of those asylum seekers hanging around schools and approaching young girls in recent weeks

Yes I think that's been missed by the national media (as someone who lives closer to the incident)

There have been specific issues around the hotel, images and videos of men approaching young girls . This has spread on social media and incited this in large part. It's why the chants were about 'nonces'

The migrant hotels have been there awhile. Obviously there were some right wing arse holes but it's not a right wing area per se

Perfect28 · 12/02/2023 07:04

Yes I'm extremely worried and anyone who isn't should read more history.

Yants · 12/02/2023 07:10

The UK is about as far from right wing as its possible to be, particularly in the way the most workshy, feckless and irresponsible individuals are treated.

Chias · 12/02/2023 07:13

The two main parties are centre left and centre right. I would say we are slightly to the left of centre but I know many think the opposite.

I lived in a socialist country for many years and you certainly get angry, racist mobs on the left as well as the right!

This isn’t a normal view, many countries are safe and stable but have events like this. Maybe the media makes people too insular.

Viviennemary · 11/02/2023 20:57

I dont find extreme left wing people any better tbh.

Agree with this

Perfect28 · 12/02/2023 07:33

Our two main parties are extreme right and centre right. If you don't think that 10 years of deliberately deconstructing state services and policies like putting asylum seekers on planes to Rwanda are right wing then I worry about your understanding of the term.
