...the UK is becoming? The scenes in Liverpool were shocking and I fear this is just the beginning.

I think we are supposed to be imaging that the men who turned up to 'protest' In Knowsley are all feminist, kitten cuddling softies, men of huge principle, who are just defending the rights of women and girls about whom they are always terribly concerned.

Do you know them? Check your bias

Which bank?
That could literally be any of 1000 or more people.

Did nor want to name him without a link. Here it is Jes Staley.

There has been very little reporting of this.

LexMitior · 12/02/2023 20:37

But what I am saying is something that is not very palatable. However, I think you will always have core of people in the U.K. who are racist.

There will then be other people who can join racist motivated groups. They may have moral outrage as their motivator. Are they the main instigator, no. The core is racist but the core will pick up others.

If they feel they get something out of this, it will not stop. That's how you can get to Knowsley.

I actually do know a well known far right wing figure in the UK, yes.

Do you think people who torch a police van and attack an emergency worker are defending women?

We don't know who torched the car or attacked the worker, do we?

Perfect28 · 12/02/2023 12:20

@Mummysgogetter woke nonsense like not being a racist? Or sexist? Can you give an example of what you deem to be 'woke nonsense'? Do you read the daily mail per chance?

No, those things are perfectly valid. What is nonsense is shutting people down because they are understandably worried about the effects on our infrastructure having loads of immigrants coming in the country - that doesn’t mean a person is racist; although some people will not want them in because they’re racist doesn’t mean everyone who is concerned about these issues is a racist.

We don't know his background or what he was doing there.

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2023 20:51

What on Earth are you talking about?

Why are you minimising?

ExistenceOptional · 12/02/2023 20:52

You think it is fine for people who have concerns about immigration to turn up outside a hostel and instigate violence?

LexMitior · 12/02/2023 20:52

Well unless there is a charge that means nothing.

I think also, this episode will get the core what they wanted. Asylum seekers are less likely to go out in Knowsley.

That is a result.

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2023 20:53

He's been charged.

I'm honestly bamboozled.

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2023 20:56

He's also from an area a full 9 miles form Knowsley. Just local people, expressing mild concern...

There have been no left wing terror attacks in the U.K. The same can’t be said for the right.

Apart from the culture of publicly shaming and cancelling people they disagree with, and of sending rape and death threats?

Who's been cancelled?

Is cancelling worse than/ equivalent to terrorism?

Apparently there's no racism on MN.

AngeloMysterioso · 12/02/2023 21:11

is there a reason why you didn’t make “To worry about how right wing the UK is becoming?“ your thread title?

YABU for the pointless clickbait.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/02/2023 21:28

Closing people off doesn’t usually make views go away

Correct as usual, Marsha, though I'd add that official denial of a proven threat to a child's safety doesn't exactly help either, no matter how well intentioned the reason for the denial

Nobody with sense agrees with the Knowsley attacks, just as they don't bracket all incomers together, but sadly this is the kind of thing which happens if the lessons from Rotherham, Rochdale and the rest are ignored

Cancel culture have cost people jobs. So yes, it is akin to violence in most sane people's books

Perfect28 · 12/02/2023 21:38

I didn't just read someone compare cancel culture to terrorism, or losing a job as violence, did I?

This thread moved me to look at what has happened to Sweden.

It seems that Sweden has significant issues. Yes, it has meant a more right wing government in response to failing law and order.

Societies change slowly. Sweden now has 40 per cent of the under 50s who are either not born in Sweden, or, their parents were not born in Sweden. Sweden was a very homogeneous country but that type of change in a decade will bring huge social problems.

The UK, I hope, will avoid that. It does not bear thinking about to get it so wrong.
