I feel like she collaborates with people who are "in vouge" and I don't get her music.

I am not a huge fan of her music but as a black woman she's done great thinks imo for black women in music- and no I'm not suggesting I think she's the first black woman to be successful or anything, but her mainstream success and cultural relevance has been impressive.

I don't think it's bad to not get the hype though, everyone likes different things, I do find it odd how keen some are to dismiss her achievements or success though.

@NeverTalksToStrangers2

Maybe people are skeptical because she has hit makers as co writers for most of her biggest songs. If she’s such an incredibly great songwriter why does she even need all these additional payed songwriters help?

And in her documentary someone follows her around and takes down her thoughts for lyrics, she doesn’t even seem to do all that.

Fans always try to dismiss people questioning Swifts song writing by saying “oh people just don’t believe a young woman could do that, they’re sexist and need to shut up” - no they question it because she’s working with known hit song writers constantly.
If Burt Bacharach had writing credits on all Bob Dylan’s major hits people would question Bob Dylan too.

What part of her documentary had someone following her around taking down notes for her? Genuinely don't remember that and I've watched it several times. Even if true, why not?? She can afford it, lol.

Her BEST songs aren't all co-written, far from it. You don't know what you're talking about here, seriously. She has never been all about the singles. Yes she uses different 'writers' to experiment with sound and genres. She is known to be generous with credits. Sometimes they help with production, sometimes they write some lyrics, sometimes they give her the entire music and she writes lyrics on top. Sometimes it's just her. You can tell a Taylor song from one that someone else has written because of her lyricism. There's always her distinctive stamp to it, her mind is incredible. The entire speak now album is just her writing (and she only did this to shut non-believers up).

Grapewrath · 11/02/2023 14:09

I absolutely love her- feel like I grew up with her! I will never afford to see her but hope everyone who does enjoys

@tabulahrasa

She just works with songwriters because she just wants to? Of course - she just wants them to write songs - and they do, that’s why they’re given songwriting credits on songs with her. What do you think she hires them to do?

Im not saying she’s never written a single song - I’m saying that many/most of her biggest songs have hitmakers songwriters co credited on them. They’re clearly there to write those songs in the main for her, that is why she pays them. If they weren’t writing the songs there would be literally no reason for them to be credited on the songs.

Man you super fans are killing me lol. She’s not being “generous” with writing credits by crediting the hit making songwriters she pays - she has to do it. I don’t know why you’re putting “writers” in air quotes - that’s exactly what they are and that is why she pays them. If she didn’t need to she wouldn’t.

Her mind obviously isn’t that incredible if she needs industry hit makers to help her constantly.

AngeloMysterioso · 11/02/2023 14:46

She doesn’t. That’s the point.

GoingOnce · 11/02/2023 14:56

Going by this thread and others I have seen, she has very passionate fans who won’t hear if anyone not liking her. Personally I don’t see what is empowering about her as a female singer who alternately writhes and stomps about in a leotard tossing her hair around. Her sound is awful to my ears, but obviously everyone likes different music. She seems so far up her backside though, really believes this Queen Bey nonsense. She’s just a human being, like the rest of us.

I didn’t think they were just hanging out 😂

From what I can work out from what they’ve said and video footage that exists, it’s a mix between her having most of a song and them helping with some bits of it or adding or fiddling with arrangement and actually sitting down and writing from scratch together.

The message from everyone that works or has worked with her is that she does write songs in the way you’d expect that to mean.

And about Beyoncé it’s that her songs are pretty much written by committee and then she insists on getting writing credits for adding in thd odd ooh or aah.

Funny that one lot is believed and the other isn’t... I’m now wondering if maybe Beyoncé does in fact write more than that but can’t be arsed proving it so just ignores it 😂

ssd · 11/02/2023 15:00

When i seen on tv that she did a come back gig for celebrities only, including mark someone who married michelle someone, in dubai, that said it all to me.

UnctuousUnicorns · 11/02/2023 15:03

Personally I find her unlistenable and would switch off or change station if she came on my radio. I don't like R'nB at all - it bores me shitless. Equally, I can't stand wailers like Beyonce, Whitney Houston, Maria Carey etc. But taste in music, like in anything else, is subjective. I daresay the music I love doesn't float a lot of people's boats. 🤷‍♀️

Carlycat · 11/02/2023 15:08

If she was playing in my back garden I'd shut the curtains.
Homogenised mediocre bilge

Ponoka7 · 11/02/2023 15:12

I lost respect for her after she sang the line "now eat the cake Anna mae". It was a shame because that video was beautifully shot and her and Jay X seemed very natural together in it. She certainly isn't about black female empowerment, or she wouldn't take the gigs she does and use the labour she does. Especially as she doesn't have to.

She just pays and credits them to hang out I guess?

DashboardConfessional · 11/02/2023 16:00

What do you mean, "biggest" songs? As I said, her whole albums stream at number one instantly.

The two highest charting singles from 1989 were Shake it Off and Blank Space, for which she wrote the lyrics and music and then credited 2 producers. There are recordings (on the special edition) from the studio sessions of her playing the almost finished thing to the producers for the first time.

I’m kind of curious who you’re classing as industry hit makers?

I very sadly went and looked 😂 because apart from speak now being just her and the weird William Bowery/ Joe Alwyn credits or the obvious collaborations with other artists I wouldn’t have a clue who has credits where, there’s no-one obvious till a couple of songs on her fourth album.

Jotters · 11/02/2023 16:57

She had a few good pop tunes in the 2000s but is now shit and overrated.

VladmirsPoutine · 11/02/2023 17:59

Poor Beyonce, not sure how she'll get to sleep tonight.

user40643 · 11/02/2023 20:14

Got with (and stayed with after he cheated to the extent that her own sister battered him in a lift) a conventionally unattractive but hugely powerful man just because he could make her more famous.

God this thread is like Meghan round 2

tennesseewhiskey1 · 11/02/2023 20:20

I think I only know one Beyoncé song - the one where she says the left the left the left. That’s the only one 😂😂😂

UnctuousUnicorns · 11/02/2023 20:30

I was once trapped in a taxi on the way to hospital for an AN scan, with Halo playing on the radio. 😱 Pure hell. 😭

These posts are so funny. No-ones expecting their opinion to affect the artist, but you're allowed to discuss it

ridemesideway · 11/02/2023 22:17

I turn off the radio when her songs come on, I can’t stand her voice.
But loads of people love her.
