I feel like she collaborates with people who are "in vouge" and I don't get her music.

OP posts:

If we’re defining middle aged as being between 40-60 years old then Beyoncé herself is in fact a middle aged woman.

OK, well you’ve got something in your head there. Enjoy your Saturday. If you can

I see you don’t want to be challenged on your sneery ageism. That’s fine most people don’t. I will enjoy my Saturday thanks, more than I would have done if I had just let it go unaddressed 😊

She is beautiful and I quite like her current single. Dont understand her relationship with her husband though, all seems a bit odd.

She was a teenager when they got together. He's 12 years old, bit ick.

For all the empowerment bollix I'd like to see the working conditions of the people that make her clothing range.

😁 with middle aged fans. So she probably actually does care a great deal about what her own demographic thinks of her. My SIL is a huge fan and has been for years, she is 42.

Tessabelle74 · 11/02/2023 12:15

She's beautiful and talented but I don't like her music personally. I don't think she's all that, neither is Adele 🤷

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/02/2023 12:17

Agree however you can put on an incredible show without an amazing voice (Kylies Fever tour for example, amazing. And the Kylie branded Evian bottles we got were well cool Grin)

Beyoncé is clearly a great business woman also a great role model although maybe not relationships

It’s not ageism. It’s a fact that the majority of people on here are middle aged women 😂

You know this yes?

if it was a geriatric man’s page or a teenage girls page that’s what I would have said.

choose to be insulted and offended if you wish, that wasn’t my intention.

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 11/02/2023 12:19

Why are you bringing race into it? And why do you think MN doesn’t have WOC?

Oh please. Mumsnet LOVES to criticise Black women.

You said “old” “middle aged” women implying their opinions had less value because of this. That’s the ageism. Why mention age at all?

BethDuttonsTwin · 11/02/2023 12:24

Don’t worry I am not 😊. It’s just as I get older I find it interesting just how easily those descriptors are used to dismiss and belittle. I think it’s worth talking about.

My immediate thoughts are that pre Bey/destiny's child, music was very much "I love you", "I need you", "I can ne what you need"

Then Destiny's Child came along and very much blew that out of the water.

I'm not a Beyonce fan as such but her live performance of Love On Top shows just how actually incredible a performer she is.

TLC did it all that first.

TLC were awesome

I’m not talking to you anymore. Stop getting offended by facts. FGS

I'm not keen bar a couple of songs , take her or leave her . Didn't she play in Dubai? Goes against a lot of her values .

Badger1970 · 11/02/2023 12:39

I think she's the postergirl for what happens when talent gets overshadowed by ego.

Those slagging TS don't get it at all. Yes she co-writes SOME of her songs, but that's mostly the production element rather than the lyrics, which are absolutely the best thing about her. Her songs are poetry. And every single one of them (even the rare awful ones) have her stamp on the lyrics. She also tends to leave her best songs on her album. She tends to co-write to get a different sound or inspiration. She wrote an absolutely stunning song called Clean with Imogen Heap and Imogen blogged about it afterwards - those non-believers should read it. Why are people so sceptical that she writes her own songs?? Is it because she's female, blonde and beautiful?

I am with the OP, I don't get Beyonce at all. She preaches black female power whilst staying with a cheating husband and lightening her skin. Her fashion sense is terrible. I'm not a fan of warbling either.

@NeverTalksToStrangers2

Maybe people are skeptical because she has hit makers as co writers for most of her biggest songs. If she’s such an incredibly great songwriter why does she even need all these additional payed songwriters help?

And in her documentary someone follows her around and takes down her thoughts for lyrics, she doesn’t even seem to do all that.

Fans always try to dismiss people questioning Swifts song writing by saying “oh people just don’t believe a young woman could do that, they’re sexist and need to shut up” - no they question it because she’s working with known hit song writers constantly.
If Burt Bacharach had writing credits on all Bob Dylan’s major hits people would question Bob Dylan too.

Changingmynameyetagain · 11/02/2023 12:41

I thought I was the only one, I just don’t get how she’s so revered.
She’s obviously got great PR and seems to be an astute business woman but her music is just meh, I also don’t get the hype about Adele.
Admittedly I’m more of a rock and metal fan than pop and R&B but her music is pretty generic and forgettable.

Exactly this! I have to add I don’t know how people speak of the two of them and don’t include Jennifer Hudson in the legendary status, I honestly think she is one of the biggest talents of this century

Which isn't surprising, if those sort of posters consider MN to be their safe space. I knew what time it was when even MN founder said that the posters on the MM thread are unstable 😅

I have no clue why she works with people... maybe she just wants to? Her third album is just her, because of the whole nobody thinking she writes herself.

I know Aaron Desser and Jack Antonoff very publicly say she writes her songs and John Mayer said he phoned round producers trying to find out who really wrote for her because he didn’t believe it but everyone said it was her and given he’s called the song about him cheap songwriting I’m guessing he’d have said if she doesn’t by now and he never has.

Her voice is ok, but not amazing, she could definitely work with more diverse people, she absolutely knows how to get sales and make stuff chart, all the collectible variants of stuff... she had a lot of help and money from her parents to start with, they’re all fair criticisms, but I’m pretty convinced she does write songs tbh.

Well its a good thing you're not one of the hundreds of thousands of people who have bought a ticket to see her then 😁 I, on the other hand cannot bloody wait!

Me either! after 3 days managed to get the block we wanted! Going to be an excellent and don't have to go to wembley either, double bonus

I guess her “values” can be sold to anyone who has enough cash.

Dedicating an award to the LGBTQetcetc community a week or so after accepting a fuck tonne of money to perform in a country where being part of that community is punishable with prison time? Yeah, no. Fuck right off with that disingenuous BS. But people don’t want to talk about how “Queen Bey” is a greedy hypocrite.
