I feel like she collaborates with people who are "in vouge" and I don't get her music.

Isn't that album about her husband cheating? Which is why her sister socked him in the mouth. Allegedly, of course.

Yes, it is.

MrsRickAstley · 11/02/2023 06:59

What's in-vouge?

Purplehyena · 11/02/2023 07:00

I always think there’s something of The Emperors New Clothes about Beyoncé. She’s got a decent voice, can dance, and churns out good songs but I find the way in which she’s revered quite bizarre. More power to get for pulling it off, but I struggle to see it as much more than a triumph for excellent PR.

I dislike her voice, the tone is brittle and wailing and quite unpleasant. She doesn't write her own music, she is a singer who buys songs and sings them, there is no genuine artistry. Many better singers could do this, but money makes money and she outbids and has the backing of the production value husband.

Frank Sinatra never wrote a song in his life. Neither did Elvis, as far as I’m aware.

There are singers and there are singer-songwriters. I don’t think not being a songwriter means you’re not an artist. Luciano Pavarotti might take issue with that notion!

startrek90 · 11/02/2023 07:03

Her music is not for me

startrek90 · 11/02/2023 07:08

Sorry pressed post too soon.

Her music is not for me and personally don't understand all this fuss about the Grammy's. It's not like she hasn't ever won any. I understand that she's extremely popular and everything but personally her music is not my taste and yeah I do think she's a bit overrated tbh.

She's stayed relevant for the last 20 years which is an achievement in itself but tbh Madonna did that first.

Personally I am a much bigger fan of lady gaga and think she is way more talented. I don't get the whole thing of Beyonce being a 'queen' I find it a little weird. And she gave her kids silly names, but at least she didn't pay a port wan to have them for her which is something I guess....

DrMarciaFieldstone · 11/02/2023 07:16

Nope, don’t get it either.

MooseBreath · 11/02/2023 07:17

Her music just isn't my thing. I don't particularly enjoy R&B, Soul, or her style of Pop, but the select bits of those styles that I like don't involve Beyonce. I did like the odd Destiny's Child song though.

wibblewobbleball · 11/02/2023 07:22

I am a huge Beyoncé fan. Lemonade was the album of our time, absolutely incredible piece of artistry and emotion. She's lost me on her latest album though, I don't get it at all.

StephanieSuperpowers · 11/02/2023 07:23

I accept that I'm old and that Beyoncé does not care what I think but personally, I find her recent music both over worked in terms of production but a bit underdone in terms of being songs. That may be my age, but there's a bit of a "will this do?" to the lyrics in terms of scanning, for example, and the melody is awkwardly stretched around the lyrics. So the songs don't make sense to me as songs sometimes.

It may be that I'm old and no longer down with the kids, though.

Tirednest · 11/02/2023 07:24

Are you 10? Noone cares if you like Beyonce or not. I'm sure she'd be heartbroken 🙄

Chocolatetoastforbreakfast · 11/02/2023 06:23

I remember reading about the hospital where she gave birth too. The husband of the woman who also gave birth there was prevented from getting in to see his wife by Beyoncé’s minders.

She is massively overrrated. Average looking, average talent but obviously massive ambition and drive which has put her where she is. A bit like Adele, also completely overrated.

@Chocolatetoastforbreakfast

Yes to Adele being overrated lol. It’s so off putting the way she’s gone full Hollywood to and is banging on on Oprah and everywhere about her divorce as though she’s been through some terrible tragedy - she left him ffs 🤦🏼‍♀️ Why is she still crying about it in the media?

ElizaGumpyLeg · 11/02/2023 07:29

tabulahrasa · 11/02/2023 06:38

Everybody that’s worked with Taylor Swift says she writes her own songs... she’s the only credit on most of them and she’s written songs for other people... so I’m pretty sure she does properly write too tbh.

It’s a running joke that her songs are sometimes a bit surreal because when she’s alone she uses voice notes to record ideas - so the joke is that she has a random dream, records a voice note and then makes a song round it, even if it’s a bit odd.

She also just doesn’t have the voice that Beyoncé has, she’d not get away with just singing 🤷‍♀️

@tabulahrasa

Everyone payed to work with her and in the PR machine would say that - the fact is most of Taylor’s biggest hits have multiple writers and at least one of those writers will be a known writer of hit songs.

That’s pretty sus. If she’s such an awesome writer why do hit makers need to “co write” her hits?

Now I think she may have more input than Beyoncé - but those hitnakers are obviously working with her for a reason, they don’t just stand back and take notes.

YANBU.

Sells herself as some great groundbreaking artiste with Lemonade/Renaissance but it takes 20 people to write one song on her album.

Her voice has power but no emotion or nuance for me.

Got with (and stayed with after he cheated to the extent that her own sister battered him in a lift) a conventionally unattractive but hugely powerful man just because he could make her more famous.

Exploits her kids by putting them in her records/videos/on stage/in stupid outfits.

Her dress sense is abysmal. Tries far too hard on the red carpet and never looks like she has that style/confidence that comes from within. It's all been placed upon her. And is usually a size too small.

She just seems like a manufactured product of the industry rather than a true *pop diva.

*Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Aretha, Gaga, Cher.

Other pop divas are available.

All of this is spot on!

I tend to switch the radio off when one of her songs is played. It's the monotonous voice and the fact that her songs leave me feeling nothing, there is no emotion or passion in her voice at all.

BeautifulWar · 11/02/2023 07:35

I find her unbearable. Destiny's Child were great..then she lost something for me..her entire contrived appearance, the hubris just manifested in everything she does.. I don't get the hype at all. Switch off or over when she comes on radio/TV

I feel the same way!

DurhamDurham · 11/02/2023 07:36

I'm not a fan, it's the overly warbly voice which just goes on and on. The worst record in the world is Survivor by Destiny's Child, it's painful to listen to.

I also dislike Beyoncé and her fake humbleness, Hand on her chest when someone is complementing her Hmm

KatherineJaneway · 11/02/2023 07:39

There are artists people are 'not allowed' to dislike. Beyonce has been added to that list.

Cosycover · 11/02/2023 07:44

Massively overrated.

Harry deserved that Grammy.

Beyonce doesn't get the Grammy by default. Especially when her album is shite.

Veryverycalmnow · 11/02/2023 07:45

Yeah, no idea what all the fuss is about

DuchessOfDisco · 11/02/2023 07:46

Yeah I don’t get the obsession either. But then I remember everyone going wild about Crazy In Love and it was played constantly, everywhere, and I really hated that song. I didn’t understand the obsession then and I still don’t now.
I don’t like Madonna either, never have done.
It feels like a sin to admit that IRL

DashboardConfessional · 11/02/2023 07:47

I liked the albums Dangerously in Love and B'Day (Deja Vu is a great pop song). So what - 2003-2005ish? Nothing since.

Karwomannghia · 11/02/2023 07:49

Love lemonade but wouldn’t have got it if Ds hadn’t played it so much but absolutely love it now. The music videos are amazing for that album as well.
Her divality is out of this world. Can’t imagine her just sitting eating a packet of crisps.

Almost all of her last album was written by her and Jack Antonoff (couple of exceptions being the collaborators singing on the tracks like Lana dey Rey, and her boyfriend). Her absolute best albums, for me, were the last 3 which had similar writer credits. We're not really in the territory of Max Martin in the 90s here!

Bit like Beyoncé, it's not really about "hit" singles now anyway. The albums they release will sell/stream at number 1 instantly, whatever is on them.

Shesasuperfreak · 11/02/2023 07:58

I loved her growing up and had Dangerously in Love Album twice.

But her surgery and skin lightening is too much. To the point that some white women are starting to look like her just by being themselves.

I used to think she was the most beautiful woman on the planet.

Guavafish1 · 11/02/2023 01:00

Beautiful women, voice and dancer.

But she is no Rihanna .... her artistic style of music and clothes is questionable. I think her mother is her stylist.

Rihanna is absolute shit.
