Would you be annoyed?

Persons A and B go to the same hobby group. They get on but aren't "friends".

They end up at a mutual friend's party. Neither are drinking.

Person A can't drive and had planned to get a taxi home.

Person B happens to mention they are driving past Person A's road on the way home.

Person A asks Person B if they can have a lift to the end of their road when they leave.

If you were Person B would you feel put on and annoyed?

So are you Joan or Sue? Who got annoyed?

LIZS · 08/02/2023 13:30

It would be friendly of b to offer, assuming they plan to leave at same time.

GreenWheat · 08/02/2023 13:30

Why is this an issue? Did you ask for a lift and the other person refused?

Furrydogmum · 08/02/2023 13:33

Person B sounds like my SIL, she isn't mean but incredibly self centred and would happily tell you she was headed past your rd, then wave as she drove past you waiting for your ride in the same direction.. She wouldn't be annoyed, she'd be surprised at the joined up idea!

catandcoffee · 08/02/2023 13:33

I'd have no issue giving them a lift especially as I'd be passing their road.

Cherrysoup · 08/02/2023 13:35

Odd. I'd offer because I'd hope that the other person would offer if it were me.

HowcanIgetoutofthisalive · 08/02/2023 13:41

laughing @Furrydogmum 's SIL. Priceless!

Inertia · 08/02/2023 13:44

As the driver, I’d offer a lift.

If I were the non-driver asking for a lift, I would offer a contribution to petrol costs.

BreviloquentBastard · 08/02/2023 13:45

I don't understand what possible reason Person B would have to be annoyed here to be honest.

IhearyouClemFandango · 08/02/2023 13:46

Of course not. I probably wouldn’t have asked, but had I been the driver I would have offered.

CremeEggThief · 08/02/2023 13:50

The only person who would have a right to be annoyed is the non-driver if they were not offered a lift in this situation. It would be really churlish/rude of the driver to not offer or refuse for any reason other than a proper emergency.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 08/02/2023 13:52

What on earth is there to be annoyed about?

AmIreallyBeverly · 08/02/2023 13:52

Interesting. Thanks everyone.

Interesting. Thanks everyone.

So you're not even going to divulge who you are?

AmIreallyBeverly · 08/02/2023 13:54

Sorry, I'm person A the non-driver.

So which one are you? Confused

Dogcafedreamer · 08/02/2023 13:55

Not annoyed at all

Which are you?

AmIreallyBeverly · 08/02/2023 13:55

I'm person A, the non-driver

Sorry, I'm person A the non-driver.

What did person b say that made you think they were annoyed?

GeneratedRandomly · 08/02/2023 13:56

Neededanewuserhandle · 08/02/2023 13:19

Not as much as I am annoyed by mystery hobbies and "person A" posts.

I'll raise you 'lets call her Griselda/Doreen/Janice etc.'
I prefer person A & person B, it's easier to remember which is which.

CleaningOutMyCloset · 08/02/2023 13:56

Wouldn't mine giving them a lift home, or for asking

Logburnerperils · 08/02/2023 13:56

But the driver is under no obligation just to be clear. They might have had a body in the boot or a gimp in the back they didn't want you to see 😀

MangoBiscuit · 08/02/2023 13:57

As B, I would have offered. If I didn't want to offer, I would never have mentioned that I was driving past the end of their road. To mention it, and refuse a lift, seems kind of rude.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 08/02/2023 14:00

AmIreallyBeverly · 08/02/2023 13:55

I'm person A, the non-driver

So what did person B do/say?

AmIreallyBeverly · 08/02/2023 14:01

I'm always very, very wary of asking for lifts or favours from drivers and generally avoid it. I hate asking and always try to make it clear they can say no by giving them some excuse eg if they need to rush home for the kids.

Obviously, I would leave whenever they were ready and offered some money.

Their route came up in conversation and they don't know where I live.

They rolled their eyes and sighed as they said yes.

We generally get on or I wouldn't have asked. Now, I'm worried they hate me!
