Secret Single behaviour - the joy!

Today at work we were having a chat about Vanessa Feltz and how several of us can remember the heartbreak. We are now a little group of singletons. One thing that we all agreed on was all the little things you can now do with no partner. Some were really funny or silly. My colleague wears flesh colour pop socks with her shoes for work. For her entire marriage she took them off in the car and stashed them as she felt deeply unsexy in them and didn't want her husband to see them! Other colleague loves farting with gay abandon round her house now her boyfriend has gone. I think for me I love not having to think about/cook food every night. I can just eat biscuits or cereal. What are your favourite secret joyful single behaviours?

Not in the spirit

BellaJuno · 07/02/2023 21:03

I saved a fortune on razors, only shaving my legs in the summer!

PacificallyRequested · 07/02/2023 21:05

I think people who won't fart in the presence of their partner are weird.

Openmouthinsertfood · 07/02/2023 21:08

Going to bed when I want, and eating chocolate in bed! :D

I'm a bit of a prude I must admit. I was just brought up like it

Yes. Heaven. I like having a teatime cuppa in bed

All of those things you could happily do around the right man…

ShirleyPhallus · 07/02/2023 21:12

I am (mostly) happily married now but occasionally I long to have just 24 hours of singledom, living in my lovely first flat I bought in Clapham Common back in about 2009. Being able to cosy up on the sofa with a blanket for one and a huge bowl of pasta and a glass of wine with the tv remote to myself and not being pestered or the thermostat being changed…. ahhhh bliss

Of course but we were talking about our own experiences and joys we were now finding that we didn't have before

Just the absolute bliss of being a slob around the house, covered in crisp crumbs. Being able to read for 6 hours no interruption. Having full control of all decor decisions!

But no woman has to cook every night or hold their farts in or wear sexy stockings... sorry, have I woken up in the 1950s?

FiveNineFive · 07/02/2023 21:17

I do all that anyway.

Why, it's rank. I don't want want to be smelling someone's shit particles 🤮

JaceLancs · 07/02/2023 21:22

Having sole decision on purchases and home decor
no one to judge my eating or drinking habits
coming home from anywhere whether it be work or a holiday to find everything just as I left it
not having to chat or listen when I’m not in the mood

That's a really wilful misreading of what I've said
My friendship group were talking about our experiences. Other women have different ones. Nothing to do with what women should do or have to do

@PacificallyRequested I think it’s fairly disgusting for anyone to fart in front of anyone else. Just as I wouldn’t want to go to the loo or vomit in front of anyone else or witness the same myself! It’s just basic politeness and dignity.

The chat and listening thing is interesting.
I don't miss coming home with my news to have it over ridden by his

The silence ... 🤗

MrsHughesPinny · 07/02/2023 21:27

For me, it’s eating whatever I want whenever I want; having the whole bed to myself and sleeping with the window open whatever the weather; buying and displaying art that I like; and most importantly (for me) spending whole days in absolute, blissful silence!

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 07/02/2023 21:27

I have a pink glitter wall in my kitchen.
I can decorate without anyone else's input to what colour scheme I'll have.
I get to pick my own amazing holidays with no negotiation, in fact can go abroad to wherever I like. (Me and exDH never agreed on holiday locations)
I can have the whole bed to roll around in.
i can go to bed at 5pm with a book and a bar of chocolate and not consider anyone else.
I can binge watch crap on tv with no comment about the content.

I've been single six years. Love my life with my DD (10) with no compromise! I can't see me ever wanting to share my space again.

SpangoDweller · 07/02/2023 21:28

Decorating without compromise. And I probably wouldn’t have a tv.

ghostyslovesheets · 07/02/2023 21:29

Some people will twist anything to make a little dig!

I am currently eating cereal from the box and watching Real Housewives !

I love not sharing my bed and decorating how I want. I love not having to listen to my ex drone on about which cunt he argued with at work (self employed and has to deal with idiots to be fair), I like not having my exhausting working day ignored while he tries to play competitive who has the most stressful job games.

I like having 6 cats

I enjoy not having to consider the needs of another adult all the time

IwasToldThereWouldBeCake · 07/02/2023 21:29

Love

having my bed to myself, twisting and turning and not having to consider anyone else.

Not having to tolerate any in-laws to any great extent.

Not having to tolerate any twatty (partners) friends or their wives.

Not having to run many decisions by ex hubby.

Being free to flirt with whoever I want.

Dislike:
Having to deal with all DIY myself.
Love my own space, but it can get a bit boring sometimes (if I m honest).
Knowing I ll be responsible for myself in old age, don't have the safety net of a husband (but some of them are leaky buckets rather than safety nets).

lightisnotwhite · 07/02/2023 21:30

We have never moved in together. Married 4 years now. Best of both worlds.
