Share with me your favourite basic comfort foods for no reason other than I just ate some crackers with butter and was struck by how delicious it was. I'm thinking say 3-4 ingredients max.

I'll start with:

White toast, salted butter
In similar vein, Jacobs cracker with salted butter
Jacket potato, salted butter
Crumpet, nutella
Toast, butter, baked beans

Tinned tomato on toast with loads of salt and butter
Leftover gone stodgy risotto preferably just chicken stock butter and Parmesan
Mashed potato and cheese pie
Chicken soup with lokshen

In my teens Crosse and Blackwell did fat tins of chicken casserole with dumplings which was my after pub grub for many years. Wish they still did it. Microwaved in a bowl with cheap bread buttered so thickly eating it left rigid teeth impressions, yum.

Toast with proper butter and marmalade and a mug of tea or baguette with salted butter and ham (or just butter). Rice pudding

Spaghetti hoops on toast

Potato waffle sandwich.

Don't judge me.

I love a potato waffle sandwich 😋

I have it with a slice of plastic cheese and ketchup.

The jacket potato needs cheese

The Nutella is outrageous

I've heard the tinned tomato on toast thing before but never tried it, might have to give it a go!

It's delicious!

MrsSamR · 02/02/2023 20:37

I made my daughter some rice cakes with peanut butter the other day as a snack and had one myself and thought man that's good...I was very hungry at the time though!

Girlgift97 · 02/02/2023 20:38

Heinz cream of tomato soup, Tabasco and crusty bread

DC1214 · 02/02/2023 20:41

Super noodles with sliced white bread for mopping
Tiger baguette with peanut butter
Half a toasted bagel with spaghetti hoops and Tabasco
Cup of tea and a crème egg!

UnctuousUnicorns · 02/02/2023 20:44

Another simple favourite - toast with a poached egg atop, then plenty of grated cheese to cover the lot, back under the grill, then a twist of ground pepper. Yummy. 😋

Tangerinie · 02/02/2023 20:47

Oh so many! I love food and comfort food is a particular favourite genre of food for me

Jacket potato, butter, salt and cheddar cheese
Fruit of any kind with double cream (and maybe some brown sugar)
Porridge with cream, nutmeg and brown sugar
Carbonara
Dauphinoise potatoes
Posh ice cream
Fancy ham and Emmenthal sandwiches with crusty bread
Dal (I make mine with yellow split peas, bay leaves, chili flakes, turmeric, salt, butter, garlic, coriander so a few more ingredients than allowed, but I don't know if "spices" can just be one ingredient 🤔)

TheActualDuck · 02/02/2023 20:50

Swiss roll and custard but mash the Swiss roll into the custard and then spoon mindlessly into your mouth.

Thursa · 02/02/2023 20:51

Toasted bagel with ham and cream cheese
Heinz tomato soup, in a mug, with a thick slice of bread for dipping.
Oatcake and Crowdie
Ritz cracker with cream cheese and a slice of cherry tomato
Bacon and beans on toast
Chip butty

Thank you

catfunk · 02/02/2023 20:53

Soft boiled egg and soldiers
Cheap white sliced bread toasted with salted butter

MeinKraft · 02/02/2023 20:57

QuestionableMouse · 02/02/2023 18:22

Anything with proper butter apparently 😂

Am I the only one who prefers unsalted butter? Goes with anything, I'm currently fantasising on the hot cross buns I bought yesterday.

BigPurpleArm · 02/02/2023 20:58

Corned beef mashed with mashed potatoes and lots of butter

Baguette with mozzarella, green pesto and cherry tomatoes

Panini with goats cheese and onion chutney

Mushrooms fried with garlic and butter - on toast

Pasta with butter and tons of grated cheese

Ham and coleslaw sandwich

UnctuousUnicorns · 02/02/2023 20:59

Also, I'm vegetarian now, but as a student I virtually lived on Glenryck pilchards in tomato sauce on toast.

Risotto is amazing but takes ages to make, i class that as full on cooking!

You can do a baked risotto, it more or less cooks itself.

Can I ask...... was/is your dad Irish?

Mine was, DH had never had that made for him and his parents were English.

JudgeJ · 02/02/2023 21:07

This thread reminds me of buying packets of dried Lincoln pea soup in the '60s, made up extra thick and poured over thick chips.

Ireallydohope · 02/02/2023 21:09

I made an omelette earlier and it was delicious with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese

I love a baked potato too with butter and sour cream and or cheddar cheese

Both super quick, easy and cheap

cakewitch · 02/02/2023 21:10

Mash and gravy
