Share with me your favourite basic comfort foods for no reason other than I just ate some crackers with butter and was struck by how delicious it was. I'm thinking say 3-4 ingredients max.

I'll start with:

White toast, salted butter
In similar vein, Jacobs cracker with salted butter
Jacket potato, salted butter
Crumpet, nutella
Toast, butter, baked beans

Pickled Beetroot sandwiches.

Risotto. It's freezing here and I didn't want to spend ages cooking but wanted something filling and comforting. You can put anything in risotto.

Risotto is amazing but takes ages to make, i class that as full on cooking!

Boiled eggs and buttered toast soldiers.
Buttery, cheesy mashed potatoes with a poached egg on top.
(My DM used to make this for us as children when we were ill. )
A bowl of tomato soup with a spoonful of mash in and grated cheese over the top. Wonderfully comforting after school on a brutal winter's day.

Egg noodles (Lidl’s are cheapest & best) cooked according to the instructions on the packet then tossed in sesame oil & soy sauce & served with fried onions, a fried egg & lots of black pepper. I could literally eat this every day.

georgarina · 02/02/2023 18:57

Also - pan-fried grilled cheese sandwich, angel hair pasta with butter and pesto, fried eggs on corn thins (so good)

1ittlegreen · 02/02/2023 18:58

Derbyshire oatcake, salted butter, peanut butter. Absolute heaven.

mbosnz · 02/02/2023 19:03

Try oven-baked risotto, it’s so easy and perfect every time. White wine in it is a must.

@Coffeellama you can make risotto in a slow cooker or pressure cooker too, whack everything in and leave it to do it's thing.

I know it's sacrilege but I don't always do the slow adding of liquid on a job either, if you stick it all in and hope for the best it usually turns out ok.

xsquared · 02/02/2023 19:19

Marmite and spaghetti, with cheese
Spaghetti alla Norma, with cheese
Spaghetti puttanesca, with cheese
Chips and mayonnaise

Not simple at all, but homemade pan-fried gyoza with Korean ramen, drizzled with soy sauce and chilli oil.

White toast and butter. It's got to be Warburtons.

Basically any white carb with something fattening!

SuperTrooper7 · 02/02/2023 19:22

Semolina with raspberry jam, a splash of cream and a sprinkling of nutmeg. Really quick and easy to whip up on the hob.

Bag of mini Cheddars and a pot of houmous. Use Cheddars as a spoon to transport houmous to mouth. Wash down with gin and tonic

You may see a theme here.

Yes to tinned tomatoes on toast, but with grated cheese on
Yes to pasta mayo and tuna, but with grated cheese

I do tuna mayo on toast with grated cheese on top, then slightly grilled

Mature cheese on toast with raw red onion

Shortbread biscuit with squirty cream and jam on.
Custard - Just a simple bowl of custard.

Thinkbiglittleone · 02/02/2023 19:29

Not only 3 ingredients but simple and the most homeliest of them all

A nice pan of scouse with buttered crusty bread - fabulous

UnctuousUnicorns · 02/02/2023 19:31

A favourite of mine as a teenager was a tin of cream of tomato soup, with tinned sweetcorn stirred in, grated cheese with ground pepper on top, and served with thick sliced white bread and butter. 😋

midsomermurderess · 02/02/2023 19:32

McIntosh macaroni cheese with bought mash and ketchup. Induces a bit of a carb coma.
