I cannot believe that the charges have been dropped.

Anyone remember the audio recording?

He demanded she put her legs up.
“Mason stop, I don’t want to have sex.”
”I don’t give a fuck what you want.”

Charges dropped. I cannot believe it.

I would have been more open-minded had I not listened to the recording. It's disgusting and he should be ashamed of himself.

Many victims of domestic abuse continue a relationship and/or have children with the abuser. Many victims minimise or excuse their abuser once they have said sorry, it won't happen again, but I love you, etc etc.

If he goes back to playing for Man Utd I will never support them again.

I suspect that he’s got to her. Talked her around and into dropping the charges. It’s not unheard of for abusers to do that to their victims. Very common actually.

coupled with the pressure from the blind men who are his fans who declared her a liar and gold digger in spite of the evidence against him and it’s not surprising.

It's very common in abusive relationships for the abuser to "win" their partner back with promises that they've learned their lesson, they've changed, that the whole issue has been the wake-up call they needed and so on. Its part of the cycle of abuse and its why so many women stay or why they return again and again.

I expect he'll have to go abroad if he plays again. Can't see any club in the UK wanting to touch him.

There'll be stuff in his contract about damaging the reputation of the club or similar, which the recording alone will do and is a way lower bar than a conviction at the criminal standard of proof. He's also going to be at less personal risk in a country where this wasn't as big a story. It's not actually that hard to get stuff through security in a lot of stadiums and it only takes one person in the right place to cob something at his head.

The complainant wanted no part in the prosecution and it's likely they are back/still together. Unfortunately, money talks and he has bucketloads of it.

5 in 6 rapes go unreported.
Only 1 in 100 rapes reported result in conviction
Most rapists are men that their victims know. Half of rape victims are raped by their partner

Men rape with impunity. They know they can do it and get away with it over and over again.

I was groomed as a 13 year old, gave birth when I was 14, he was 21.

Happened 18 years ago but I only reported it 5 years ago.

CPS gave him a caution because he admitted it and it was such a long time ago

Did I say I thought he was innocent? No.

Do I need to “think he is”? Absolutely not. I don’t give a toss about Manchester United or their players

i just don’t feel the need to use him as a cipher or shorthand for all the multiple horrible injustices that happen to women .

This whole thread is an echo chamber. Literally nothing will change for women or conviction rates by what is written here.

If the CPS however looked at speeding up the trial rates so that a victim isn’t coerced into danger again?
