I cannot believe that the charges have been dropped.

Anyone remember the audio recording?

He demanded she put her legs up.
“Mason stop, I don’t want to have sex.”
”I don’t give a fuck what you want.”

Charges dropped. I cannot believe it.

No, it means she's been persuaded to drop the charges.

There's plenty of evidence but without her testimony, the CPS won't pursue it.

He is still rapist scum.

Individuals/victims don’t ‘press charges’ here, it isn’t the USA. The state/Crown does.

Lockheart · 02/02/2023 17:00

It's entirely possible to both believe he's guilty (as I do) and also understand why a conviction is impossible (because of lack of evidence / witnesses) or undesirable (because the trial would be unfair or prejudiced) in legal terms.

It's an unfortunate situation in one sense, but I am grateful in another sense that I live in a society where trials must be rigorous and fair.

Botw1 · 02/02/2023 17:02

@Lockheart

Except they aren't fair are they?

Nothing about this is fair and its a complete cop out and deeply offensive to suggest it is

SavoirFlair · 02/02/2023 17:04

hope he finds his way to playing again and isn’t tried in the court of social media.

If a key witness has withdrawn then yes, the trial could potentially be prejudiced or unfair. Really none of us know because we're not the CPS.

He will do

With her by his side as a WAG!

Botw1 · 02/02/2023 17:07

Botw1 · 02/02/2023 17:08

The system is completely sexist. To suggest its fair and you appreciate it is terrible

StreamingCervix · 02/02/2023 17:08

The recording and images of her bruises are really disturbing. She clearly sounds as if it’s not the first time he’s behaved in that manner.

He’s beyond contempt.

I hope the latter part too.

and many would say the former would help with the latter.

but this wall of hate on here is not a court , neither is social media

How long till this pointless thread is taken down for libellious comments?

Why are you defending him?

I didn't say it was fair that these charges have been dropped.

I said I appreciate being in a society where trials must be fair and rigorous.

If a key witness is lost then yes, trials can (not always, but possibly) become unfair and any result can be challenged at a later date because the conviction will not be on solid legal ground. Therefore it is in everyone's best interests to make sure the trial is thorough and fair.

I have no idea what new information the CPS has or which key witness has dropped out (although based on comments here I would place a large bet) but dropping a charge is not done lightly. There was obviously something crucial that happened or came to light.

If he wants to try doing me for defamation I will use the defence of honest opinion. Or truth.

A system which has such poor conviction rates can't be described as either

mikado1 · 02/02/2023 17:17

DaisyCornflowerBlue · 02/02/2023 16:15

Doesn't mean he's innocent. Only means there's not enough evidence to confidently secure a conviction.

The hope the woman in the recording is getting appropriate support.

Unlikely, unfortunately, considering her Dad came out explaining it away and saying mG was super the day after she posted it..

Seeing as there is still a body of evidence of photographs and recordings of what he did to her, I’m slightly aghast that you think he should get back to a seven-figure playing contract.

Walrussy · 02/02/2023 17:20

I wonder how many men are posting on this thread.

IDontCareMatthew · 02/02/2023 17:22

Was he charged with rape or attempted rape?

LakeTiticaca · 02/02/2023 17:35

The complainant has withdrawn the complaint and is now back in a relationship with the defendant, I believe. They can't proceed with a case if the victim refuses to give evidence, unfortunately

Siameasy · 02/02/2023 17:39

Without her giving evidence all of those things could be said to be fabricated. I know people will lose their minds but imagine you’re the defence lawyer for a second or imagine you were on trial for something and convicted on emotion rather than facts.
Recordings and photos can’t stand alone. No one knows why she has presumably withdrawn

UWhatNow · 02/02/2023 17:39

My dd has spent some time in the football world around footballers and from what she tells me it’s no wonder these young, testosterone loaded men lose all perspective about what is reasonable and decent human behaviour.

They are almost groomed to believe their entitlement and aggression is a valuable gift and that hot and cold running girls who they can discard on a whim is perfectly ok.

Interesting to see the reactions around footballer ‘Tom’ at the moment in Love Island - he’s dumb as fuck, grunts rather than speaks, zero personality, charmless and average looking and yet several sensitive, beautiful girls are throwing themselves at him. Why? What makes being able able to kick a ball so irresistible to these young women? Unfortunately you can see how horny, pig-shit thick dudes with no social skills and an aggressive streak would take advantage of that.

I think there is a case for wholesale education of young males in this country. We do it for other groups in the name of diversity training. Young men need to understand that women are not possessions or sub-human slaves. And that sex is a mutually agreed intimacy NOT a right.

Oh no, the foolish girl.

changedusernames · 02/02/2023 17:46

From what I’ve seen/read/heard they have gotten back together. That would make sense as to why the charges have been dropped and the key witness has dropped out of the process…

Botw1 · 02/02/2023 17:49

Well said @UWhatNow
